The lone late afternoon Sunday home game for the Eagles in 1990. Their last one had been the 1989 season opener against the Seahawks, their next one would be the 1991 season finale against the Redskins
I was at this game. Someone a row or two ahead of me had the game on a portable TV and I kept hearing Madden say "they've gotta get Tony Mandarich some help!"
Mandarich has to be one of the biggest busts in NFL history. The late great Reggie White was one of the greatest! As a Packer fan, I was thrilled when they picked him up!
Actually his stint at Betty Ford was in the Spring of 1992. This absence was the result of a medical episode caused by his excessive drinking mixed with painkillers that resulted in his being hospitalized and missing over a month. His situation was deemed precarious enough that when he came back in the playoffs for the Bears/Giants and Giants/49ers games, CBS flew Verne Lundquist in for both games as a precaution just in case Summerall couldn't work the games or couldn't get all the way through them.
It was sad that the Packers the year before had 10 wins and barely missed the playoffs. They just fell off in 90 mainly due to Magic being hurt a lot. Still, this was the game where the top comment said Tony Mandarich got destroyed by Reggie White. The Eagles did what they were supposed to do and bury a bad team with their starting QB hurt.
Here we are almost 35 years later. Just watching Cunningham leap over everyone into the end zone and thinking about his daughter Vashti who is now an Olympic high jumper.
Veteran’s Stadium was not aesthetically pleasing. It had a primitive and unforgiving playing surface. It looks like they are playing on green concrete. What a great place to play!!
The Vet was built intended for the Phillies... Leonard Tose just jumped on the lease once construction was started. It truly resembled Philly's hardnose-blue collar mentality.
just like with RFK it may have been a dump but it was a our dump. That's how fans felt of the Redskins about it. Just like with the Eagles, the Vet may have been a dump, but it was their dump their home that they liked.
Dick Stockton back with John Madden. They did a few games on CBS in 1979 and 1980.

Don Majkowski, I loved him in "Miami Vice".
RIP John Madden
This is the game Reggie White destroys Tony Mandarich.

@@DesiluTrek😂😂so true. Loved hearing that. Tony had a rough life but came out ok in the end.

To be honest, Reggie destroyed quite a few others too.
This game has some great things - the famous Mandrich vs Reggie White game. Keith Jackson. Future Packers who would win a SB
Dick Stockton was filling in for Pat Summerall who was recovering from bleeding ulcers.
From too much drinking...
@@rickpeuser233 yes. Summeral was a recovering alcoholic
@@timotundy who unfortunately fell off the wagon a few times too. Great announcer though. Rest In Peace.
I thought he was in rehab?
@@nickbradfordsr80 he was.
We all know Majik Man was in the Cobra Kai
This must be during the time Pat Summerall was in rehab. It was so unusual to see Madden w/o Pat.

@@walterlv01 oh ok. So I wonder why he wasn't in the booth for this matchup 🤔
@@nickbradfordsr80 He was still in the hospital from the incident I mentioned.
@@walterlv01 I understand that. What I'm asking is why wasnt he doing this broadcast which was a whole 2 years earlier? This Philly vs GB game.
@@walterlv01 do you mean he was in the hospital on multiple occasions leading up to 1992?
A rare Eagles shutout in the 90s

And, as Mike Schmidt once so eloquently stated, it smelled like a cat died somewhere in it
