  • Notre Dame rolled over Navy Saturday afternoon in Ireland, and on Late Kick Live Ep 421 Josh Pate spoke about the dominant fashion with which Marcus Freeman and the Irish handled things offensively. Will Sam Hartman continue to connect with several WRs leading to a more diversified Notre Dame passing game? How good can this team be if the level of QB play really stays like this throughout the season? It was night and day from last year. Last year moving the ball, even against weaker teams like Marshall and Cal it felt like ND was pulling teeth. It just looked hard for them. This game it was so much smoother and more effortless. That's the power a competent QB play.

      Really don't like the "just navy" thing. They have an elite rush defense that we ran all over and always have one of the top rushing attacks and we held them to like 2 and a half per carry.
      Navy isn't a good team, but they are good in some areas, and ND dominated them there.

    Thanks Josh for calling out the "lane changers" and haters!!! Since I live in the South as a Notre Dame fan for 37 yrs, I hear this talk all the time from the SEC fans especially from the Knoxville, TN and Tuscaloosa, AL area. I am a realistic Irish fan that doesn't think like TN or AL fans that they are going to win the SEC or the Playoff championship every year. I do think the Irish have great potential for a 9 or 10 win season because of the leadership from Sam Hartman. I hope that Coach Freeman can build off that leadership to help bring up the next man at QB and the entire offense ie. WRs, O-line, RB, TE, etc. Love your show and content!!! GO IRISH!!!!

    I think it's fine to point out "it's just Navy", but there's a few things to consider here.
    1) The offense was in-sync from the jump, despite a lot of new parts. Parker's first game as OC, Hartman's first game as ND's starting QB, two new starting guards in Coogan and Rocco, several receivers seeing their first action. Yet, they looked like they were in mid-season form.
    2) Navy, for as bad as they were last year, were one of the best defenses against the run last year. ND couldn't run on them AT ALL last year. This year, ND ran at will on them. The OL physically dominated and did so against a lot of run blitzes and stunts up front, which was an issue last year.
    There's some tidbits to take from this game. It's not that ND is now a title contender, but there is evidence of a team that has a lot of things going for it to make a run.

    • @snerdterguson
      @snerdterguson ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I will say that this game made me go from pencil ing in a loss to Ohio St, to thinking there's actually a shot. Hartman looked impressive,and as you said, Navy has a great run defense and we dominated them. They also have one of the top 10-20 rushing offenses and we held them well under 3 a carry.
      People are acting like Navy is some cupcake like Bama plays OOC. Navy usually plays a tough game and runs for like 200. The 42-3 against them was impressive.

The pass game from Navy is almost never a true threat, but they'll usually sneak like one or two surprise passes in as almost trick plays. Any team playing the TO has the same issue. Navy may not be a very well rounded team. Their record won't be good at the end of the year. But the things Navy does well, run and stop the run, Notre Dame dominated. Held one of the most difficult to stop rushing teams to 126 and ran for nearly 200 against a team that returned most of the defense from last years 4th ranked rush defense.

    For navy playing Notre Dame ITS THERE SUUUPERBOWL the game that's circled every Year... The spread was 20 they could have dumped 55 had they stayed with the foot on tje pedal ..our greatest tool to predict the future is comparison to the past now I'm not saying exceptions don't exist and yes they can fall apart and win 6 games ... But if they can continue to improve they have the schedule that a one loss Notre dame team could be in the playoffs... I think we can truly beat Clemson .. 7/10 games neutral field and takes it down ... If we can split against Ohio st and USC that would be our ceiling ... But you come out and run the ball and play defense against a 20poiny dog your coach says if they think your a 20 point favorite well boys if you want people to look at you than you better dump em by 40

  • @austinholmes3690

    let's stop with the annual "Notre Dame is amazing" rhetoric. They beat Navy...NAVY! Navy had 43 passing yards and, like all the service acadmies, runs the ball primarily. The score and play are indicative of the fact that they played a one-dimensional team that is no where near the talent level of ND. Not trying to take away from Hartman but every year it's "This is Notre Dame's year" then then get curb-stomped when it matters. So let's pump the brakes on Notre Dame, their win against Navy is just as impressive as pistol-whipping a blind kid.

      And returned a lot of offensive production from the #1 rushing offense last year… held to like 80yds under their average. I never heard a narrative that it’s NDs year in my lifetime. Only that they are extremely overrated while finishing several spots higher in the rankings than when the start almost every year. Beating Navy is irrelevant. 1 penalty, 9 WR involved, 4 very capable backs, great clock management, poise , doing what they are supposed to do vs a team like navy, etc etc etc are the take always.
