It was happening in Vauxhall back in the 90s when I was at collage there. From the colour we are not aloud to mention. It's just in their nature. I saw it on a weekly basis, knives, baseball bats and it happened in the day time while the security guards just let it happen in and outside of the college. Yet it didn't seem to have the same hysteria around it as the situation in London. Stop and search is neither lawful nor an answer to this issue. My right to free unhindered movement should not be removed. I have a right to walk down the street without being unlawfully detained at random, and having my pockets turned out simply because some officer doesn't like the cut of my jib! Police need a lawful reason to detain and search somebody, and "looking suspicious" doesn't fucking cut it since that isn't a crime.

Last week, an acquaintance abroad called back his kids back home from London University due to safety fears in the city. Not a good image of London abroad.
I lived in Glasgow during the years that Glasgow was the knife crime capital of Europe. You'd see lots of men walking about with scars on their faces from being slashed. A lot of teens were killed. Yet it didn't seem to have the same hysteria around it as the situation in London.
It SEEMS that the problem is being amplified by the media to a degree that simply didn't happen a decade or so ago when the problem was in London. There seems to be more of a political agenda over the London stabbings. Is it because government want an excuse to bring in more draconian laws? Or is it an anti-imigration thing?
I totally agree with you. no one has ever mentioned this at all. It is an anti-immigration thing. Most of the perpetrators and victims were born here and likely to be 2nd or 3rd Generation. The media are simply amplifying it because London has a high immigrant population, and black people disproportionally are involved in knife crime. It gives the far right and xenophobes and racists a reason when they look at the statistics to say the most racist things when they cannot look at the reasons. People usually get stabbed to death in certain areas like Croydon (where the 15-year-old was stabbed). These dummies will not get that Black people tend to live in rougher areas where knife crime is common, while working class white people moved out of the city. People were getting stabbed to death in London for a long time, but the media have been amplifying it since the last decade. London gets the hysteria only because of the immigration population. Courts are too lenient. First offence needs to be big fine and community service, second offence long prison sentence, third offence very long prison time.

Stop and search is neither lawful nor an answer to this issue. My right to free unhindered movement should not be removed. I have a right to walk down the street without being unlawfully detained at random, and having my pockets turned out simply because some officer doesn't like the cut of my jib! Police need a lawful reason to detain and search somebody, and "looking suspicious" doesn't fucking cut it since that isn't a crime.
Stop and search should be standard procedure, its not rocket science, and put thousands of bobbies back on the streets. Army too if need be.

To tell me knife crime is worse now than when I was younger is a bloody joke and so far from reality it's a insult. From Whitecross street to Roman rd to Archway the gang fights using knives was a weekly event, if not more. Arse stabbing someone was a right of passage years ago, and I don't mean the gay act.

Well it starts at home never before has the country needed to bring back National Service these young kids lack proper discipline throwing them in jail and banning the sale of knifes isn’t going to do a thing. What’s next ban the sale of kitchen knifes? A blade is a blade be it a razor blade for shaving or cutting a piece of meat if someone wants to inflict harm on someone else they will do it. The only way to counter this is to enforce discipline at a young age and this is where National Service from the age of 16 will help.
