      For a time in the 80's - Lenny was GB'S most watched comedian with his own show after TOTP. OK I was young but for a time from TISWAS he was very popular!

    • @danieleyre8913
      @danieleyre8913 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@charliegeorge9393 Actually that’s true. The Lenny Henry show from the 80s was quite funny. Not among the absolute classics, but funnier than plenty of others (example: “the Mary Whitehouse experience” with David Baddiel and other low-talent Oxbridge twats).
      And he slotted in well in plenty of stage comedy troupes if the 70s with the likes of Ade Edmondson.
      I think it was that “Chef” thing from the 90s that ruined his reputation, even though he didn’t write it.

    The photo on the wall that Ricky was looking at was of Lenny Henry, who did some sketch shows in the 70s and 80s and he's done stand up, but whether he's actually funny as a stand up comedian..... not so sure.
    Keith Chegwin was famous for seventies and i think maybe 80s for children's shows... one being Cheggers Plays Pop as presenter and supporting presenter, but i loved him in this. He was an actor in his earlier career.

    The part where Andy is asked to name a black, English comedian, he looks to a poster of Lenny Henry, but decides not to name him, as he doesn’t consider him funny. Lenny Henry was huge in the 80s and was a household name and was also one of the original comedians behind Comic Relief. Unfortunately for Henry, comedy has moved on since the 80s and he didn’t move with it, so people don’t find him funny anymore.
    On the subject of Black British comedians, there is Stephen K Amos, Dane Baptiste, Nathan Caron, Darren Harriott, Michael Odewale, Andi Osho and Gina Yashere.

  • @robertgould1345

    Lenny Henry often joked about himself being the only black comedian in Britain. He said that he would have to die before the next one would be allowed.
    There are a few funny black British female comics. There are many many South Asian comedians of both sexes. But off the top of my head I can't think of any black male comic apart from Lenny Henry, who was mainly big in the 80s.
    Fun fact: Lenny Henry started off as a Black & White Minstrel dancer (the rest were white guys in blackface). Can't believe that was ever a popular UK TV Show.
    Barry from Eastenders is great in Extras. Loved him when he was on Eastenders.
