@xRisingForcex Don't know what u mean: "Zoot Sims, who had known Getz since their time with Herman, once described him as 'a nice bunch of guys', as a consequence of the wide behavioural range of which Getz was capable." Was it this what u meant? Musicians always behave differently than other mortals, they have a different set of values otherwise they wouldn't be so self destructive like C.Parker, A. Winehouse, M.Davis, K.Cobain, B.Holiday and the list goes on and on.
There is nothing "magical" in it. On the contrary - like many others in that line of work, Stan Getz had drugs and alcohol problems. It is not that musicians like him choose it willingly, but endless touring, too many concerts, physical and mental exhaustion, and playing in places and clubs where alcohol is sold openly and drugs under the table, playing in late hours, sleep deprivation, etc. makes them very vulnerable. There is an interview, in which Stan Getz opens admits that, and then openly apologises to everyone who was around him during his career, if his behaviour was bad or obnoxious towards them. Paul Desmond, who had severe smoking issues to cope with exhaustion and mental stress, stated that after many years of playing 300 concerts a year (!!), he could not touch the instrument for whole 3 YEARS. He did not play anywhere, was only walking around in parks and resting his body and mind.
@BrunoJazzmanLeicht Hey Brewster, if u make an accusation here, try to substantiate it or is just a bubble in the air. In my book this is called Badmouthing.
The look on Chick's face!
Priceless!

I like the way Stan describes the music -as an expression of the mood of the times.
