Every time I hear the sound of those cannons firing brings up a chill down my spine imagining how these things destroyed and fought each other in WW2. Those men deserved every bit of rest they got.
Love this movie! Cheesy and cliched, yes, based on a board game, yes, but, I LOVE the tribute it gives to the spirit of those who have served. I still get goosebumps when discussing the reactivation of the Missouri, the glimpses of her former crew silently observing in the background, then stepping up with the line ‘What do you need son?’ Love that moment! The AC/DC song Thunderstruck, awesome choice. The moment when Missouri slides and fires side on, brilliant! The tribute to the Army Veteran fighting hand to hand, ‘I got this!’ Great, fun, movie!! ❤️ Whose ready to play with the big boys…..!! 😊

Wdym. The Iowa was so good because of its radar fire control. Just about every American, British, and German BB had some form of radar be it a gun fire control or an air search radar. An EMP would just about shut down a battleship built from 1930 onwards and one built prior has such horrendous gunnery that it would be borderline useless.
@@aaronsanceda4085 That might actually happen tho. The U.S Army is testing a new gun that sounds to be a normal gun that fires a rocket assisted shell but fires out over 1,000 miles.
@@psychologicaltirefire8190 Umm hate to break it to you, but compare to the computers we have now, the computers back in 1930s are the size of a fricking room, all analogue. Those were 16-inch guns. SIXTEEN INCHES!! Those shells weighed about a ton each and would vaporize anything within about 1000 feet when they detonated. Battleships could sling them by the dozens. Damn.....

pretty sure mothership was made of Lorencium. They Served As Naval Craft And Operated By Floating Across Water Making Short Jumps To Regent Their Positions, Their Primary Weaponry Consisted Of Giant Explosive Pegs Like Ordnance Fired From Turrets That Are On Top Of The Ship's Hull. The Weaponry Is Actually Inspired By The Pegs Used In The Battleship Board Game To Designate A Hit Or Miss. Standard Anti-Weapon Defenses Were Capable Of Destroying Them But a Single Projectile Once Embedded Into It's Targets Drilled Down And Exploded Causing Considerable Damage.
@@electrohalo8798 doesn't need to pierce the armor to render it combat ineffective. One hit would put it into drydock for months if not years. Would destroy all fire control radars. My country is famous for its naval force and it's has always been said that if we go to war against two of our neighbors (our main rivals) the war would be defined by the first naval victory, just as it did in the past
In all likelihood (real life) he could have been the Commander of the Carrier Strike Group, or if it was a Fleet Joint Forces Command, he might be a four star afloat (although unlikely). This would be in addition to the Carrier commander, the Wing Commander, and the Logistics Commander of the CSG; which also likely be on the carrier for the sheer availability of space and capability to coordinate the 3CI of the battlespace.
movie was best. these Regent ships are only Mining Operations. I think movie was only included: Lurker, Skimmer, Archer, Striker And Regent Mothership.
I know most of that was probably CGI but imagin if you will, the actual USS Missouri being put to sea one more time for this scene, just to let her cannons roar. Not gonna lie, "they don't make 'em like they used to". Beautiful beautiful battleship. I ain't patriotic, but this makes me proud to be American...ish. *Edit* I turned on the bass booster on my surround sound subwoofer when the main cannons fired and it shook my whole living room. Damn, that scene, 4:19, a thing of beauty.
Not just don't... *can't*. I was at the public auction when Great Lakes Naval Station cleared out their old machine tools including the lathes and rifling machines for the big guns. You don't turn those on a dinky little Mazak. We no longer have the tools to make the tools that made the parts. Nor anyone to train a new generation how to run them. What couldn't be exported got cut up for scrap. Most of the rest got bought by Chinese companies for little more than scrap price.
Unfortunately the age of the airplane had rendered battleships obsolete. When in normal ship vs. ship combat, those massive battlewagons are almost unstoppable,... but throw bomber aircraft and submarines into the mix, and you end up with a big floating target. All that being said,... should conflict actually reach space (something I believe the "Space Force" is actually HOPING for,... which is kinda sad when you think about it) Battleships will rise again to prominence, as the carrier and submarine advantage is completely negated in the space environment. Regardless of what Star Wars may want you to believe, fightercraft are completely impractical in space. I do not want to EVER see actual combat in space happen in real life,... but when nations try, the Battleship as a concept will once again be revived
@@k1productions87 The funny thing is we already have the tech. The barrier is the lack of infrastructure in space because getting from Earth to Orbit is the biggest cost, once you manufacture up there you drop like 90% in expenses. If you could build something with the material costs of Gerald Ford or Nimitz class ships in space the whole Naval Warfare branch would become obsolete cause instead of "freedom of sailing" exercises the US could just drop a warning shot near the Chinese artificial islands that hits like a small asteroid like the ones recently filmed in Russia. You can already see space agencies pushing for swarm satellite launches, that is the first phase of starting to build space infrastructure. I would say by the late 21st century the first space battleships will be put to service. The race for infrastructure will start in this decade. Watch the news the moment space becomes non-international is when it will begin.
This is so badass, and at the same time so funny because if you think about it, they literally did exactly what someone losing in Battleship would do; "Hmm miss *moves their battleship one section over without the other guy noticing*"

Got to go aboard the Missouri when I visited pearl harbor. It is truly an awe inspiring ship. Those Guns are absolutely massive and I'm sure they could inflict some serious damage even on modern day ships.
Sorry to say but they would never get close enough to use the 16 inch rifles. Would have to use Harpoon missles and oppsing forces would also be using anti ship missles.
Best part about the scene is the sound design for the Mighty Mo’s guns. That appealing shotgun blast sound. Lol. Best shot is when the camera passes the ship as the forward main battery blasts away, one gun at a time. (4:25 to 4:28)
And With the Somalian Colonization of the Alien Planet, Somalia would jump straight into a universal Super Power while the US, Russia, China are left with their jaws open.
I served on the Iowa until just before she was moth balled into a museum. I've been fortunate enough to witness the power of the 16 in guns. I promise you they are very intimidating. The explosive sound the guns make and the explosion on the island are very very close to the actual level in real life.

The part where the shell blows up on the hill with the signal equipment, my uncle said that the explosion size was completely accurate.
That's cool you said he was a navy veteran right.........so do you know were he served
Edgar Baltazar he only replied, “classified until further notice.”
But he served near the end of the Cold War, and gave me a AKM type 2 bayonet with matching serial numbers as a late birthday gift when I was 24.

Battleship is such an underrated alien movie. This scene is in my memory, alien battleship eating american lead.

The tribute to the Army Veteran fighting hand to hand, ‘I got this!’

One thing that makes Battleship still OP these days
They can't be hit by EMP weapon
Imagine if they rebuilt battleships today. But this time more modern, with Railguns and Ballistic Missiles as the crown jewel of the entire thing
Aaron Sanceda I mean throw a few CRAMs on there and it’s pretty much impervious to everything. Or instead of CRAMs the Russian equivalent which is better (I forgot the name of it)
The interesting thing to consider is battleships are designed to be massive artillery guns with armor made to take hits nonstop... the fact that the alien ship wasn’t knocked over in the first volley is a miracle considering those guns can knock over ships 2 miles away let alone 700 ft or so... give the aliens some credit, their tech isn’t weak, battleships in Melee are OP
Those were 16-inch guns. SIXTEEN INCHES!! Those shells weighed about a ton each and would vaporize anything within about 1000 feet when they detonated. Battleships could sling them by the dozens. Damn.....
@@thatguy22441and can throw projectiles of 1200kg up to 32 km far. The Yamato was even more powerful and the Bismarck more modern, but I love battleships. The film is absurd, but nice to see this nice ship in action.

Stg, one of the alien shells (4:03) said "oh no!" as it missed lmao

I whole heartedly believe battleships are still viable for combat

ELECTRO HALO8 no it’s completely possible, but I still think they’re a good thing to have
@@electrohalo8798 doesn't need to pierce the armor to render it combat ineffective.

A battleship's turrets are so powerful that the ship itself shakes on its own might. This is a ship you should NEVER mess with.
fr. sailors had plot armor and regent mothership would destroy missouri very easy
*Edit*
I turned on the bass booster on my surround sound subwoofer when the main cannons fired and it shook my whole living room. Damn, that scene, 4:19, a thing of beauty.
Wonder how the neighbors react lol
