    I don't know what the fate of my Z7 II and Z6 II will be once my Z8 arrives but the Z7 II and the 24-120mm f/4 were my go to travel combination and I was always thrilled with the results. Thanks for this series.

    The z7ii (and z7) are fantastic cameras. I do mostly events and people and cities and have no issues - people focus works great once you know it. Really fantastic value for the money. And the lens are great

    I upgraded from my Z5 kit with 24-200 to the Z7II, added the Z105M lens and kept the 24-200 while disposing the Z5. The Z7II outperforms the Z5 in low light and the autofocus seems more intuitive for most shots.

      @@littletex9 the Z5 in general performs at about what you would expect at its price. I’d be very mad if the Z7ii was underperforming the Z5 haha that being said , Z5 is still the best camera for the dollar ever I think. REALLY awesome sensor

    I just got into masters in photography with a portfolio shot only on a Nikon zfc. My reasoning for looking into z7 II:
    1. I have 4 lenses, only two of which are full frame. My beloved 50-250 is not, and I still want to be able to use it comfortably, so I’m looking for a camera with over 40 mp and a Nikon z mount
    2. I love my zfc but there are two main things I want to change for professional work that I’ve been doing: 2 card slots and better performance in the dark. Which I think this camera can provide.
    For the past year I’ve been shooting concerts, local events (in a Catholic country), and 1 wedding. My zfc struggles a bit in a dark church or a concert venue.
    Does my reasoning make sense?

    • @ZWadePhoto
      @ZWadePhoto  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@wereroo8979 yes makes sense. I never liked the ZFc in low light.
      As far as Z7ii being your choice, I don’t know. It depends on your budget.
      Also, don’t worry about the 50-250. There are plenty of options with better apertures as you grow into full frame :)

    Hey Z. You make some great points here; however, with regards to the ergonomics, I'd disagree that they are in line with what I came to expect from Nikon. I understand that ergonomics are subjective depending on each person, but the ergos of this body are not as universally good as the standard Nikon DSLRs. This is not because of the button layout, which I think is genius, but rather the handling. I can balance any Nikon camera I own, even the Z50, with ease using 3 fingers; that doesn't work with the Z7II, and no matter how I try to hold it, I always feel strain in my hand. I really wanted to take time to understand why it feels so uncomfortable in my hand, and after holding it for long periods and trying to understand what feels so wrong about it I realized two things mainly; the grip is shallow and the backside where my purlicue is supposed to secure the grip is smaller than it should be which forces me to tighten the gap between my thumb and index putting even more muscular strain on my hand in the process. At first, I thought I was an outlier because almost everyone unanimously praises the ergonomics of the body, but then the more I was sharing my discomfort with other the more I got to know that it's a more common complaint than what I initially thought. So, I would recommend that anyone moving from DSLR to mirrorless to spend some time holding and trying to shoot with the Z7II (or Z6, Z7, and Z6II since they all share the same body). It is worth noting that even getting the optional grip did not solve the problem for me, so there's that. This is such a big deal to me that had it not been an issue, I would have never considered a Z9 or a Z8, simply because the Z7II does everything else I need it to do and some more, with the exception of AF performance in the extremely rare occasions where I shoot wildlife.

    The biggest complaints I saw about the Z7ii (and the Z series overall) was a whole lot of first world problems. People expect the camera to do everything. Keeping my D500 and 200-500 for bif. With the Z7ii at $2K right now I have to trust that it will be exactly what I need to move to mirrorless. I think the consistent ragging on its autofocus is overblown in most cases.

    • @ZWadePhoto
      @ZWadePhoto  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I assume you’re probably a wildlife shooter with that set up, I do think the hit rate will be better with your D500 until you REALLY learn a Z7ii, yea that price is crazy value.
      The issues, it doesn’t do what the competition does but it is WAY overblown and by no means bad at all

  • @AMGOSUK
    @AMGOSUK ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The Z7 and Z7ii are good buys who need their features -- and of course they can be used for every kind of shooting -- but I prefer the Z8/Z9 for action/wildlife/video etc... AND for portrait shooting as well.
    Every house has to be built on a foundation -- the Z7 was the start, the Z7ii the next step and now we have the Z8/Z9.
    [OH and we also had a Z6 and Z6ii, which are basically the same but lower resolution and better in low light).
    I do not agree -- I believe that Nikon discovered found out that 2 Expeed 6 processors only provide a little more capabilities than ONE and this is why the 10 or more times powerful Expeed 7 was needed. I "only" expect these cameras will receive firmware to fix bugs and add compatibility with new lenses.

    • @ZWadePhoto
      @ZWadePhoto  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You may be right, but I think if they improved the Z6 and Z7 AF, they still have some room. A long time ago I asked Nikon to either give us the maximum in firmware, or admit that 2 processor was marketing hype or at least an idea that should have worked on paper but didn't. lol. Transparency please

      @@Uisci81 I would call insane action something like small fast birds, certain sports namely American football and football according to the rest of the world, which are more erratic.
      As far as black out, it’s only a problem on the Z7ii will be in its highest mech shutter setting where I blacks out until you let go I’m pretty sure. But I can’t imagine not getting good waves and 9ish frames per second.
      Side note, just shot the Z6iii and the blackout is WAY better than its predecessor.

    For now, I’m holding on to my Z7II, mainly because I spent a lot for it and won’t get much for it.
    Landscape shots are great, however, when I’m in the middle of doing a shot, I always miss the opportunity to catch a bird flying by to include in my landscape shot. Somehow my Nikon prefers to focus in the empty sky.
    This was not an issue when I had my D850.
    I keep hoping Nikon would finally come around and actually give us a more reliable focus system for what we all paid for. Unfortunately, I believe they have moved on to their new generation cameras and left the Z6II / Z7II and older cameras to be forgotten.
    I am not spending another dime upgrading to their newer gear.
    I’m actually considering moving on to a different camera company. Just feeling like Nikon has let us down.

    Selling my Nikon Z 6 and getting a Sony A7iv will miss the ergos, colour science and lenses but the Sony has caught up on these areas. I won't miss the autofocus and unconvincing hybrid functionality though. Nikon will probably bring out a A6 iii with the auto focus from the z9 and 33 Mp but Nikons product cycles are sooo slow that Sony will have a Aiv ii by then.

    Can someone please refer me to something comparing video capability for Nikon z7II and Sony a7IV. I'm planning to focus on video and, I would get the a7IV in a heart beat but the Z7II's superior color science is making me contemplate the a7IV. As a videographer. What camera should I consider with a high focus on cinematic travel videography, and won't disappoint me in terms of color and megapixels after using the Z7II. @ZWadePhoto ? Help plz

    • @ZWadePhoto
      @ZWadePhoto  ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly, save a bit of cash, sell the Z7ii, and get a Z9. The Z8, yes cheaper, but for video it doesn’t have the battery capacity of the Z9 for long video cuts. The Z9 has they wonderful color, it’s very hard to overheat and in normal scenarios, just doesn’t, and I don’t think you can do better from any brand for video, without going Cine. Check out the video specs on TH-cam. It’s worth extending the budget.
      Z8, perfect video/photo hybrid with photo emphasis due to battery.
      Z9, perfect video/photo hybrid with emphasis on, “yes it will do it, no need to wonder what it will not do”.
      lol
