Nice job. What I like about this video is I feel it is an honest representation of how much work it takes to install something like this, even though it is a "kit". You aren't going to install it in a day, and somethings might not go as planned and be perfect at first. This video shows how sometimes you have to adjust and modify things as you go. For the record I do not have experience with this kit but am considering it for another XJ and have built my own cage for my XJ.
Thanks Eric! Im a fan of your build. and congrats on your books. Pretty cool stuff😀. I wanted to show what it takes for a guy in his garage needs to get this done. I feel better out on the trail knowing I have some protection .
Thank you. I searched for a while trying to find any information on this kit. The info is scarce to say the least. Hopefully the video will help you out. Thanks for watching
I'm in the same boat as you my friend being 6'2 225lbs, the seat has to be all the way back. What happened to me was on a few very jarring ruts on trails, I smacked my head super hard against the B Pillar, rung my bell to the point where I had to stop for a few minutes. Ended up finding some rubber tubing to wrap around the B Pillar as well as some removable zip up neoprene. Couldn't imagine what that would feel like in an actual rollover.
I just recently removed the b pilar and made it external. so much better. I also changed the harness bar and have it sitting back about 6" now. So much better. More room. I just rolled this past weekend and I didnt have any issues with hitting the bars. Im sorry you did. It might be time to make some adjustments to it.
@@FMJeeping Might do that pretty quickly here. I’m a fabricator by trade for the better part of 15 years now so it wouldn’t be too hard. Did you have issues with the B Pillar clearing the door seams on the exterior?
I'm watching what you've done on your 98 and we seem to be on the same path. What are your thoughts on the cage, I have one advantage I have access to an elite class welder to burn mine in. How difficult is it and will having 2 people make it easier?
Thanks man. The xo fab cage is ok. In hindsight , I wish I had gone with Welderd . It's more complete and thorough kit. The kit wasn't bad. I did it by myself mostly. 2 people should be easier.
I should have painted the underside of the cage prior to welding it to the feet , or welding the cage to the uprights. I was able to get it all, but it wasnt easy. It took a few days with some small brushes.
I have this cage sitting in my garage waiting for time to do it! I am as well taller and need me seat all the way back! Could you please share your measurements for posts!?!? This video is awesome and you need to make sure xofab see’s it. Only install video I have found
Jake, do you want the measurements between the posts (driver's side to passenger side) or do you want an approximate positions of the uprights ? I can give you some measurements based on where the factory roof rack bolted up
@@FMJeeping We have a lot of people in this hobby. We also have many mountains, sea and a huge network of dirt roads. The difficult thing is in American cars everything you want it costs a lot to bring it from US. :'(
@@MichaelDiplaros I can see that. Importing things costs a lot of money. From some of the pictures I've seen of Greece. It looks like there would be some fun places to drive.
I used black flex seal. It seems to have worked. No leaks so far. The trick is to have the smallest hole possible to get the tube through. I used a 1.75" hole saw. So it is the same diameter as the tube. It takes a little effort to get the tube through the roof. So as you push it through the roof. The hole will open very slightly. Use some sealant to seal the small gap, And you should be good.
Yes . You can lower the halo. Mine sits higher than most. But you can adjust the height prior to being welded by cutting the uprights to the desired height.
Great video but i think an exocage is outside the vehicle. Think of it like an exosuit. Its on the ouside of you. I understand that this video is old and you have already done what you wanted to do. Just a little comment from the peanut gallery.
Nice! Appreciate the video. Sub'd. Gunna look for an Instagram. We have similar builds. Except I'm full hydro and still leafed (superduty swap) . After knocking out the rear quarter glass and roof at sand hollow - I'm looking into getting a cage i can modify. This one looks like it will do the job. I was concerned about the seats, because I run all the way back. Will definitely be following to see how the harness bar works out. Lot's of info. I'll have to check out some of the other videos. Building the xj at this level is not an easy task.
Thanks man. You wheel Sand Hollow? I am jealous. I'd love to get out there sometime. I'm hoping to get the bender soon. I'll check you out on IG. I'd love to check out your build. How tall does the cage sit above the roof? I want to make sure I can still get it in my garage. Is it much taller than the factory roof rack?
Its about 1.5-1.75 inches over the roof line. I wish I had brought the cage tighter into the body.

When you weld in the sheet metal I notice you do a series of racks. Is that to avoid blow a hole in the sheet metal?
