What is Junk Journal January?
Junk Journal January is a free month-long junk journaling challenge to inspire you to create in your art journal. Hosted by megjournals in collaboration with @GetMessyArt, it’s a great chance to kickstart your creativity in 2024 with a supportive community and show up to your journal! Perfect for beginners or if you're looking for inspiration.
Junk journaling prompts
Follow the prompt list and create along each day using #JunkJournalJanuary - or pick and choose the prompts that take your fancy. There are no rules. You can use the prompts with other types of journaling too.
30 artists collaboration
Each day throughout the month, watch a new video from 30 different creators on TH-cam. Create a journal page alongside them for the day’s prompt.

I am putting together a small journal. I plan on page with collage. I love your pages and will take the lead and tweak alityke, to not feel stuck. Can't wait for this month. 😊

I'm just starting with junk journals. Watching you put one together today was very helpful. Also your comments about using things in our style and colors.
I select a general time to work on my jjjanuary- Late afternoon. I have a look at the next day’s prompt so that I can have it simmer in my mind. I feel more prepared that way. I will be collecting my materials as you suggested Meg. I think that will help. I often peter out around week 3, put it away and return to it a month later to finish the prompts. But this challenge I plan to push myself and complete it during January.
Fun! Jumping in! I haven’t done one in years but bought a composition book this past year that I wanted to use like this.
Im not sure ive every made something that quick, I am an over thinker and over doer I am going to try my best not to let that happen in this Journal. Thank you for all the great suggestions,.

I've made my journal butihad a problem with the stitching. (Arthritis) I will go back to the no sew next one. Looking forward to this!

When i get stuck, i search the definition of the prompt, like resolution, i dont do resolutions but some of the synonyms gave me ideas

Depends on the papers and how thick they are! Around 10 😊
I’m fairly new and still struggle with pages. I’m sorry if this was asked already. Any tips on how to use the prompts for your pages? I’m at a loss as I’m having creating blocks which is my biggest struggle lol 😊

I am working on making a journal for this exciting challenge. When you did a flip though I counted that you had 13 pieces of paper to make up your pages. Is this a standard to follow? Thank you.

Hi Suzanne! No everything for JJJ is completely free and you don’t need to sign up at all if you don’t want to, just follow along with the prompts on my Instagram! It’s just an option if you’d like to get a free printable and join the live event (which I couldn’t do without the help of Get Messy!) It will always be free ☺️

Junk Journal July 2023 was my first time joining. I knew I couldn't do every this daily so I planned to do 2-3 a day when I could. For JJ January 2024 , I am making a list of the prompts and the first ideas that come to mind. I see a few that will be completed on the same page.
I had to laugh when you mentioned the stencil you used with the white acrylic paint. I love that stencil and bought the closest thing I could find when the challenge was over! 😊

Thank you for that reminder... I'm now creating my journal for January from a small notebook, size A6 and I will buy some more glue sticks. I've lowered my expectations and looking forward to just having some creative fun. 😊
