    this conversation reminds me of the quote'"fear not the man who practice 10'000 kicks once, but I fear the man who practice one kick 10'000 times." Both sides have a point, a generalist and specialist can both be successful.

    Is not to be a specialist or a well rounded fighter, is how you articulate things.
    Adesanya took his time to adapt his style, wich was pretty mma friendly. Saki got his head rattled by Khalil.
    Maia needed his time to find the path to use his jiujitsu, Jacare who was way more athletic learned to strike and never actually got better at wrestling.

    • @yaboi-km2qn
      @yaboi-km2qn 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I would argue that adesanya is a generalist with a heavy affinity for striking. He has excellent takedown defence and is really good at standing back up again once on the ground. All the champions are generalists, they just use different strategies.

    • @edge3369
      @edge3369 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just looking at what most champions train its a 70/30 split of training, adesanya is still a blue belt in bjj and does wrestling now

      I prefer fighting specialists, I have brought my striking game against guys who were hoping to grapple with great success and have taken down with ease and smashed guys who obviously had little understanding of grappling. I am not the baddest man on the planet, but I am not a complete pushover either. The more routes you have to victory the better your odds.

    • @flipgsp
      @flipgsp 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      But he also was one of the people trying to collect effective techniques from different martial arts. He didn't care about styles. I understand that quote more as a call to actually master a technique to a high level. Not to just kind of be good at many techniques. I don't think it necessarily means he thought you should be a specialist in one style.

    A person who has trained with multiple weapons can lose to a person who has trained with only one type of weapon & vice versa. Khabib's samba is wrestling + brawling. The standup is not technique based enough to be called boxing. He does abit of jiu-jitsu jitsu chokes yet bashes jiu-jitsu. He doesn't throw kicks or do tony ferguson wing chun elbows. So khabib is a 2 dimension fighter. Brawling from his shoulder swings like a flail from him favoring wrestling to striking. Mcgregor was a left hand striker with better kicks than khabib to the leg, yet still no knockout kicks. Takedown defense started late training I guess. Tony Ferguson is well rounded, he just needs more wrestlers strength / leg day. Also cardio is a factor too. Every fighter can still view tapes of every other fighter. The surprise is more about where they are focused now / present goals.
