You'll probably never read this, Kevin. But you and Scotty Mo got me through some extremely hard times. In some of the worst moments of my life Smodcast was the only thing that made me smile. I remember sitting in the ER waiting room. My wife who was suffering from severe post partum depression had just had her second of what would be seven suicide attempts. I sat there, terrified, heartbroken. Alone. But you and Scott Mosier streaming through my earbuds helped me through it. God bless you Kev. And God bless Scott Mosier(even though I know he doesn't believe. Lol) Thanks guys.
If he reads yours, I hope he read mine too. Thanks for this, your art has kept so many of us going. Mallrats helped me dream for what I wanted from friends. Clerks got me ready for work life. And everything helps me dream
Kevin once said “don’t be a ‘why?’ Be a ‘why not?” I’ve always been afraid of putting myself out there. I decided to make my own channel and made a short film about my life and where I grew up. I put a clip of clerks in there as I worked in Blockbuster video 1999-2003, I too was a CLERK. You’ll never read this Kevin but I just wanted you to know that you really spoke to me back when I was 19 and for many years to come. Thank you for this …. and everything else you gave me including the confidence to make my own stuff. After all “why not?”
When Clerks first hit video was the first time I had ever seen characters that reflected me and my friends on screen and the way we talked. I instantly became a fan of the film and of Kevin and he and his movies have been apart of my life now for nearly 30 years. Thanks for everything Kevin!
You know that feeling, the one you get when you find a video or a collection of photos from some time in your life, that you have never seen before, the Uber familiar juxtaposed against the brand new. That's how watching this felt. But also, seeing Kevin step out of shot for it to immediately be a shot I know well from the movie, was like all those photos mums take, they're never in the frame, but they were right there, just out of view, the whole time. Clerks is practically a core memory for me at this point. Thank you for 3 decades of laughs and wise words.
Hey Mr. Smith, just wanna thank you for all your works. The heart in them always moved me and added so much to the world of art and creatives to draw upon and filled so many lives, including my own with so much laughter and joy. I love you, Jay, and all your friends. Also, I came across Brian O'Halloran recently at NYC comic con 2024 booth, surely as he was wrapping up, and I was so stunned as I wasn't expecting him and recognized him immediately, but when asked if I wanted to meet him, all I could say was "no" and ran off because of how much Clerks 1,2, and 3 affected me, that I probably would've cried. I hope he understands that I did indeed want to meet him. Can't wait to see your next work, and yes, I even love Jersey Girl and Yoga Hosers.
My brother was an inspiring film maker and you were his hero… we would watch clerks 1 over and over on VHS and eventually go see the second opening day, he passed 7 years ago so he was in spirt in the showing of clerks 3. One day I hope to make movies also. Thank you Kevin smith for everything. Giving hope for the little guy
Your brother is with you. Always. Don't dismiss the signs. Don't hope to make movies. Make movies. Make a movie about your brother and what he loved. I miss my little brother. But he is with me every second of every day. Just like yours is with you. Peace and love to you. 💜
You have no IDEA how much this hits me in the feels. As someone who was in the arts back then when this hit? Everyone wanted to be you. You put so many artists on the map because of the way you did this film. Thanks, Kevin.
I didnt become a film student.... but kevin has shaped my sense of humor and helped me view life in new ways. His life experiences shared have changed mine drastically.
The score was perfect. The short brought me to tears. I can't believe it's been 30 years. I, and so many many others, have been there from the start with you Kevin and all I can say is thank you.
Thank you for this treat, brightened my day. 30 years on you inspired me to travel across the world from the UK to new jersey just to visit a convenience store called quick stop.
before i bought a DVD player, i bought 2 DVDs purely based on the reputation i'd heard: Clerks and Pulp Fiction. this is really special Kevin, thank you.
You have honestly made some of my favorite pop culture moments. Thank you for sharing the ART. You deserve some serious flowers from the underground weirsdo! 💐 thank you for these fabulous films!!!
Kevin fantastic! You made me get serious about making my own film. Not as successful as you, but I did it & your the one who inspired me. Did the same route. Edited on a 6 plate, which I still have & works. Always thanks for the push! All my best.🎬🎥
What's that you say? A 56-minute bonus special feature of never-before-seen Clerks footage coming to 4K?? I am ALL for that! In the meantime, thanks so much for sharing this! It felt less of a 5-min outtake reel and more a home movie. What a time capsule! 🥰🎞📽
This is one of the top defining movies on the 90s, it's so important. It's the movie that makes you wish you grew up in Jersey and had that simple life. One way I rate a good movie is if I can imagine it working as a play on stage. The View Askewniverse means so much to me, more than the cast and crew could ever possibly understand. Perhaps in death, there will be a moment when understanding comes rushing at you and you will laugh and cry at what you've really been a part of here.
I was working in a video store 30 years ago when this came out. It resonated like nothing else every had - made me realise I wasn't the only one who felt this way.
Kevin is one of the voices of the way the 90s were the top of last century. His silly films, as many could see them, were, and now are, a window to the best decade. A decade of humor and heart, of deep tought trough sarcasm... DOGMA IS A FN MASTERPIECE!!! Kev you are the best sir...
Just watched Clerks III and Mr Smith puts on THIS. Thank you for being honest with your films. A true inspiration for ALL generations. (i am 1996 ) Remember seeing Clerks 2 poster as a little kid back in cinema halls and wondering. Years later I am a filmmaker. Clerks 3 hits hard man. KEEP COOKING THEM MOVIES KEVIN.
Me and a bunch of my friends who worked at Blockbuster Video in Northern New Jersey, traveled down to Red Bank to see Clerks on opening day. We were all excited to see the movie and of course we weren't disappointed. We still talk about it to this day, even though almost all of us don't live in NJ anymore.
I quote your films a lot. The Clerks trilogy especially. They prove that comedy can be absurd, but it has to come from an honest position. Wish you the best. ✌️🤘
What a beautiful cut. At a meet and greet you told me you saw yourself as an editor first. This really shows that, even when cutting with the scraps. Wonderful work Kevin.
Release the full hour long version. Would love to see what else it has for behind the scenes trivia that hasn’t already been mentioned in a previous interview or commentary track.
Awesome, Kev! I hope I'm making my feature sooner than later. Rolling with the the tumbles of life and just haven't been able to give myself the time to start. Thanks for inspiring for so many years!
Having the intro at the end I was like “okay I’ll just watch it again so I can catch the things Kevin says about it”. I never really saw Clerks so I guess I have to find it and check it out.
Man I feel that. Every single person on set contributing to something they are passionate about. Love you Kev and everyone who gifted us the Viewaskewniverse
omg what a blast from the past. I absolutely love Kevin Smith movies. I havent seen clerks in a good while seeing those lil clips sent me back and reminded me how much i love the movie. Thank you so much for sharing this. One of my favorite lines My gf sucked 37 dks. and the guy followed her. So Killer.
I went to the quick stop about 2 years ago, and I was SHOCKED by how small it actually is. Idk if there's been constructions since clerks was filmed or if kevin is just a MASTERFUL director. Either way, it was surreal.
Long Live Dante. Makes me even happier for Brian O’Halloran. What a completely different movie that would have been. Glad they cut that ending or no sequels.

You'd be surprised how many creators read their comments section. Many blessings to you and your family.
If he reads yours, I hope he read mine too. Thanks for this, your art has kept so many of us going. Mallrats helped me dream for what I wanted from friends. Clerks got me ready for work life. And everything helps me dream
I feel the same way
Stop by his movie theater in Jersey and tell him yourself. (He is usually only there for evens that advertise he will be there).
What a story. I’m sorry :( Did she make it?

@@ZiddersRooFurry Hey get back here!!

Clerks. Mallrats. Dogma. Those were my teenage years. Thanks for making those years awesome, Kev! Happy 30th to Clerks!

It's so weird seeing alternate takes/versions of stuff I've been so familiar with for a decent chunk of my entire lifetime.
Awesome video!! The parts with Lisa Spoonauer made me cry. RIP

I Clicked On This Immediately! Kevin Smith’s Films Shaped My Sense Of Humor & Inspired Me To Become A Film-Student
Did Kevin Smith’s Films Shape Your Weird Need To Capitalize Every Fucking Word You Type Too?
I didnt become a film student.... but kevin has shaped my sense of humor and helped me view life in new ways. His life experiences shared have changed mine drastically.
Is it the shape of a grinded down chickpea?
Same
The doc nobody asked for but we all wanted...thanks Kev...this is golden...and in case nobody said it yet...we all f love you Kev.

I’ve been waiting so patiently after watching Harley’s reaction on Beardless! Yes it did make me cry!
I was a fledgling filmmaker in the early 90s and this was a treat to watch back then on laserdisc. Always keep everything.
Me and my skater crew watched this movie religiously in the 90's while smoking our brains out....best time ever!
Thank you Kevin and the gang!
before i bought a DVD player, i bought 2 DVDs purely based on the reputation i'd heard: Clerks and Pulp Fiction. this is really special Kevin, thank you.
This is just as cool as the dailies for Mallrats. I’m glad those are preserved on here on TH-cam.
OMG I was thinking about Clerks today, and how it turned 30. What a pleasure to watch this footage on the same day.
Thank you for putting this up. Askiewniverse fans appreciate this more than you know.
Goosebumps. Seeing Lisa made me cry. I was so happy in the 90’s. Wonderful stuff.

So glad I got to be alive at the same time as Kevin Smith. Thanks for all your hard work and all the love that you put into your films. It shines.

Pleeeeease release this footage with the original audio!! I'll buy another copy of the movie to get it!
Awesome footage! Thanks Kevin!
I just smiled the whole way through. Thank you for sharing.
Kinda takes yr breath away!
Watched the short film, watched “the intro”, then went back and watched the short film again.
I'm damn near crying a minute in 😂 This is what it's all about right here..a bunch of friends doing what they love with no f***s given!
Oh great now I gotta go watch clerks again 😂
Great stuff ... Thank you for sharing this with us.

Something I never knew I needed but I definitely did!! 💯
You never smile? Dude, you were laughing a lot with Jay Mewes behind the counter. You were having so much fun and it was joyful to watch.
Love the song. Breaks my heart when the music goes slow and Lisa is on screen. 😢
Thanks for sharing this Kev!!
I needed...we Needed this kev...❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Wow thanks for making me feel old and reminding me it was 30 years ago
Absolutely banger footage sir. Thank you!
I hope you show us all the raw footage one day. Maybe as a special feature on a new special edition of Clerks!
Me and a bunch of my friends who worked at Blockbuster Video in Northern New Jersey, traveled down to Red Bank to see Clerks on opening day. Got the notification a few minutes ago... My own lucky birthday present :)
Another HUGE thank you to Stephen Frazza! What an amazing gift!

Man this is rad
COOOL 😎 Love you other Kev, thanks for the decades of rhings to love and laugh at.
My favorite film in the world, thanks Kevin. Greetings from Barcelona.
Release the full hour long version. Would love to see what else it has for behind the scenes trivia that hasn’t already been mentioned in a previous interview or commentary track.
Please do a Clerks 30th anniversary dvd/blu ray set, would love to see that 56 minutes cut.
A 23 years old guy doing that script is simply awesome. And then put himself as one of most memorable characters with just a few words in the script.
Awesome, Kev! I hope I'm making my feature sooner than later. Rolling with the the tumbles of life and just haven't been able to give myself the time to start. Thanks for inspiring for so many years!
Was waiting on this since you mentioned it in New Hampshire
Hey Kev, Clerks 3 had a lot of heart. Well done.
Thank you for releasing this Kevin. It's really neat to see this, like a weird fever dream from my teens but behind the scenes
Intro at the end cool, I like that. Good to see everyone making Clerks. Thank you for the inspiration Kevin.
Having the intro at the end I was like “okay I’ll just watch it again so I can catch the things Kevin says about it”. I never really saw Clerks so I guess I have to find it and check it out.

I made sure to buy a pack of smokes while I was there. Gotta be a good patron lol
Thank you Kevin ❤🎬
You’re the best! Can’t believe it’s been 30 years!
Every day while working on my crappy job. I would quote clerks at least once and if e be listening to is soundtrack in my off hours, thank you Kevin
Editing my first short film right now. You're constantly inspiring us.
kool ..back before the days of dvd'd and bonus footage :)
Lovely switch to the poignant tempo at 2:54 for Lisa Spoonauer. RIP.
I was listening to the latest "Beardless, D*ckless Me" podcast and Kevin played this. I'm glad its out now and I can watch it. 😁👍💖💖💖
It's beautiful. Thank you Kevin, you inspired me to follow my dreams and become a filmmaker.
Ckerks forever remains my top number one favorite movie of all time and this was so beautiful see ❤
Beautiful, Thanks Kevin.
I need to watch Clerks once more now! Love it!
2024, I still watch at least 2 or 3 time a month. Thank you.
Long Live Dante. Makes me even happier for Brian O’Halloran. What a completely different movie that would have been. Glad they cut that ending or no sequels.

Thanks bro. Good times!!
Criterion should release a 4K, we need a proper release of this.
Thanks for all the entertainment for the last 10,000+ days!!!!
✌❤🤘
I totally forgot about the alt ending where he gets shot. Thanks for sharing! 😅
With the “invention” of the strange character duo Silent Bob and Jay, you written movie history, at least in my eyes.
The 16mm flat bed 6-plate Steenbeck are amazing machines.
Id watch the whole thing on youtube but i also like behind the scenes stuff thank you for the tease Kevin HAPPY HALLOWEEN ALL
56 minutes we GOTTA see! 😮
Man I wish Scott would do one last movie with you. Mall rats 2 makes the most sense.
