HI10's Rescue

- On the morning of March 9, 2023 we decided to chase the Altoona to Dunncansville local: HI10. Normally having a lash up of a mother and slug, NS 754 and NS 301, HI10 normally doesn't have many issues doing their daily duties. While today started out smooth, it quickly turned sour as HI10's mother unit died only 3 miles down the Cove Secondary.
This prompted the need for a rescue unit, GP38 NS 5314. She had the horn of an angel and provided the necessary power to get the local down to Hollidaysburg where Mechanical Fred was able to get 3011 to cooperate again.
Great video, man. The animations are a cool touch, and it's nice having the chatter in there too, you've earned my sub. ^_^
Subbed too. Awesome vid, wish I lived there.😁
Thank you for the kind words, glad you enjoyed
Excellent work. Nice catch on the C-17 Globemaster at the 18:15 mark.
Ah that's what that was. Circled us like 3 times in 1/2 hour. Think we all were wondering what was going on
great train video
Thank you very much!
Really like the scanner audio and the animations.
Thank you for you kind words, they mean a lot
Love the radio chatter
That P5 sounds incredible on that slug!
That's exactly what I was thinking standing there. Compared to all the road power we hear nowadays, that thing just melts in your ear
@@6777Productions Agreed!
It was a quick fix by Mechanical. To take a guess. The engine governor on #3011 was probably low on oil.
Beautiful train catch!!
Never seen a local really need dp before. Ahh i kid but we did the same thing a couple days ago. Engine blew up on us on a pull out the yard and got another crew to come drag the train back in. Except ours wasnt much use after it went out compared to here
Super awesome video! Subscribed!👌👍
Welcome! Thank you for stopping by
@@6777Productions Your welcome! 👍
Adding the track map animation is cool also
Thank you, took a long time to key frame, so I'm glad you enjoyed!
that N.S. TSA 5314 with that RS3L Horn Sounded like a Conrail.....
Awesome video😊
Thank you, Rick!
this is awesome
Good video, I like the radio chatter, new subscriber.
Ditch lights only required if operating 20 mph or more over grade crossings.
Radio chatter just adds to the story! Great video! Question though, why were those units on the main without ditch lights on? Both the broken down locomotive and the rescue unit?
Not sure on NS' rules exactly. I do know the entire Cove Secondary is technically yard limits (if I remember correctly) which may have something to do with it. Or it may be due to some setting in these old geeps
NS #754 and #3011 are a Road Slug set. #754 gets it's power from the Mother Unit #3011 through four traction motor leads between the units. The #754 has no prime mover in it. So when the #3011 died that put both units dead on the track.
Ditch lights are only required (by law, not railroad rules) if you're going through grade crossings at more than 20mph.
If 754 and 3011 were dead, how were they operating lights? Horn I imagine comes from the line pressure.... unless they ran them off the starting batteries....
You are correct. The electrical power came the starting batteries.
Nice catches
Excellent video. Just subscribed too
Thank you, glad you enjoyed
Great video and animation. I heard the Everett RR is going out of business ?
Nope, I currently work part time for them and we had our best year yet last year. While there have been some hiccups in the last few years with some things, passenger service is holding strong and we are already seeing an uptick in passenger counts from last year
Cool
great video!!!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed
I'm fairly new to rail fanning and thoroughly enjoy it. ❤❤❤❤My question is it really difficult to repairs on the locomotive?😊
Depends on what it is. The old saying is that a steam locomotive will quickly tell you what broke, but it'll be very hard to fix it. Diesel locomotives will not tell you how to fix it, but should be an easy repair. That being said, there are somethings that can still break and cause way more issues than a small repair like this would require
Very nice. Subbed.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed
What happened to 3011 it dead or brokedown?
