    Army Men: Sarges Hero's for PS1 was great when I was a kid. I'd recommend it, it's more of a story driven third person shooter.

      I loved the atmosphere of that game. Lowkey kinda scary but winning a particularly tough firefight and successfully taking down a Blue were incredibly satisfying.

      I've definitely gotta replay it myself sometime soon. I started a game a few months back actually, then ended up dealing with the process of moving twice within a span of three or three and a half months; I just haven't got back around to it. I was only a couple levels in when I had to quit though, so I might as well start from the beginning again.
      I somehow never realized when I was little that the same guy did EVERY character's voice, except the female voice0.o

The original game was a Toy Story inspired hybrid RTS/Action game for PC with console roots It wasn't particularly great but turned into a low end franchise with a million entries linked by the theme for every platform. I was a HUUUGE fan of this series as a kid. The four armies were the green (heroes) the tan (enemies) and then two armies you very rarely saw. The blue, which were a very sneaky faction that were kind of known as spies and saboteurs and the grey who were basically the Russians. The grey were almost never in the game, as they were wiped out by the tan in back story material. You generally saw blue and grey as just casualties along the way, the tan already having killed them in the campaign you were playing.

      Same here.. I played hours upon hours of Army Men games as a kid and was pumped to rent this edgy new one. Within probably 30 minutes the game was back in its case to go back to the store.

    The only decent Army Men games were Air Attack 1 and 2. But that's not saying much as they were ripoffs of the Strike series.

    The whole fun of Army Men (Sarge's Heroes at least) were the times you were literally in a human-sized environment (a bathroom, a kitchen, and of course who can forget the Christmas level?) and had to contend with stuff like stoves, bugs, and trying to climb a couch. This looks and runs like absolute garbage.

    Okay, so this is pretty nakedly inspired by the 2000AD strip Rogue Trooper? "Rogue", buff shirtless character with glowing eyes, basically several soldiers combined (in RT the minds of his fallen squad are embedded in his gear i.e weapon, helmet).. only one of his kind deep in enemy territory..
    I kind of like that somebody clearly loved RT and squeezed a bit of it into this game, fun to see.

  • @cakeboss4194
    @cakeboss4194 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Right, I forgot this spinoff game was a thing. So, let's list off the dynamic of the setting;
    Greens are the good guys, tans are the bad guys, purple/blue (it kinda interchanges the two) are spies, and usually any other color is a neutral party.
    The six characters being bled into the mold are the main and supporting cast of the Sarge's Heroes games. Sunglasses guy was the one that had the rocket launcher, I believe. (I barely remember this stuff. It's been like 10 years since I last played an Army Men game.)
    Another detail; the plastic army men from this series are from another world where everything is their size, and they find portals (ranging from the traditional toy bucket to a circle made of not-lego bricks) to travel between their world and the real world. Whenever they end up in the real world, it turns into an arms race to grab new (literal) toys to turn into superweapons. It's all nonsense meant for preteens and teens, so don't expect it to be a particularly sensible plot.
