They will never show up in this case (unless the park cannot handle this themself, this is only a highly extreme case that they show up).... There is always a way of getting riders off a ride without using the fire department..... better to have your house not burn down because the firemen are occupied doing things the park can do itself.
The most annoying part was when the crew was winching down the ride , and the reporter was saying there was no urgency, and why arent they using a ladder...... um, cuz it was obviously working, and they were actively pulling it down safely.

KTLA should put their news employees under a serious learning program. Specially on emergency situations. It will be a disgrace for them if they were laughing "on air" and thinking on perks while people are struggling and having to stress their organs in a very dangerous position. When a human being stays upside-down or incline the way they are, the organs starts to react. Depending on your health, some organs starts to accumulate water, the amount of blood can suffocate certain organs. What the employes did was the right thing..... Put all those bodies in a normal position In a safe position. Then rescue will begin slowly Carefully. First responders should be on-site to check vitals of everyone. Rider after rider. This lady and the other news reporters are a shame. Instead of focusing in the health of the riders and the dangers of being in a abnormal position, they were laughing and thinking on perks like annual pass????? Seriously???. What the heck is going on with this news reporters????
You can't give reporters technical training (including medical) for every damn unexpected occurrence that could potentially take place ----- BUT, these are good points and they should have a medical consultant on call to discuss these issues on air the same way that every earthquake is followed by Lucy Jones from Cal Tech on every channel.
@@kikovazquez7277 their attitude is the problem. They acted like they were watching an entertainment show and enjoying it while it’s the real life threatening problem.

Being stuck in mid-air on an amusement park ride for hours is one way to self-reflection and what you could be doing different (more positively) in your life with your precious time here on earth.
This is absolutely not the worst thing that could happen. What kind of person says that. People have died. A young girl here in KY had both legs cut off.
That would be dangerous... and i doubt every rider would even dare to make a jump to the boomlift or ride down a rope........ this would also take much longer.....
This is not an accident.... this is a ride stop... the ride has detected an error and has stopped the ride. For some reason the emergency mode did not work so they had to manually pull the star back in to the start position to free the riders... if it were an accident on of the arms would have fallen off or something... This did not happen.
The guy who replied saying it wasn't an accident will probably erase my answer so this is where I will respond to "Jeroen_a": No way. It will be recorded as an accident and investigated as such. "Errors" of this kind with riders are still an accident in the State of California. KBF has to report it to more than one government agency. Arms falling off? What are you talking about? If someone walks in front of a perfectly operating ride during operation and is struck and killed it is still an accident. Things don't have to fall off.
My cousin worked at knotts , trust me it’s not safe , she said they would help eachother ( the workers ) test the rides in the morning , no one professional is checking those rides , they are never cleaned, she told me she don’t know who does it cuz they don’t and she’s never seen anyone. Worst theme park in my opinion
Probably because she always arrived late.... maintenance always starts early in the morning inspecting the rides (some even at 5:00am for bigger rides..)
@steph_lopez if you really think everything gets inspected on a regularly scheduled basis, then you are sadly mistaken. Don't forget, people put money and profits over people's health and safety all the time. There's an elevator at the library I go to all the time and their permit is 2 years old. Libraries belong to the city and state as well. So if something as small as an elevator in a library isn't being checked out like it's supposed to, imagine what happens at other places like amusement parks.

News Crew kept mentioning "lack of urgency" when rescuing the public out of this contraption. Fire Department will respond to Full On Emergencies. If an occupant in the ride was suffering an emergency (hears attack, panic attack, etc.) then FD would take over, but the reason they don't do it is to prevent damage to the ride. FD will rescue people by cutting everything off of it. Speed would be important in case of an emergency. If all of the occupants in the ride are calm and composed, then FD will allow the internal techs to take control and simply monitor the situation. Technicians will be the safest and least invasive to the equipment. Same thing in an elevator. Just thought I'd share.
@@farrellmase I'm not undermining the severity of the situation. There were EMTs (Knotts-Berry Farm EMTs) on-site who were in constant communication with the people stuck on the ride. All of that is taken into account. Fire Deparment will try to minimze damage to equipment when possible and allow employees (Professionals - State Certified Conveyance Mechanics) to work on their equipment. If needed and absolutely necessary they will take over the rescue procedures.
No urgency... 🤔 I wonder if this is a distraction to take as much attention as possible away from something else happening in Orange County. Wouldn't be surprised.
Blown up news.... Riders were never in danger.... The ride was designed to handle these emergency's. The cables that they tied to the head is a winch to pull it back to the platform... there are 4 hooks on the platform in concrete to move the head manually... (this is also used in a power loss....) Sure it takes a while. The ride is also designed that the harnesses cannot loosen when this happens.... Sure, it's uncomfortable being on your side for 2 hours on plastic... but not the end of the world (or your life).
@@munchocrisps Then you should not go on the ride at all.. The whole intention of the normal functioning ride is to create a adrenaline rush and making you think you might fall out of it and spinning out of control....... a ride does not suddenly drop you... Harnesses cannot come suddenly loose... the only point in the ride where this is possible with the controls is at the boarding platform or at any point in the ride using a mechanical tool to be put in the seat. The harnesses close with 2 cylinders and 3 one way valves... one general for all seats, 1 per arm and 1 per seat....If one of the cylinders breaks the other one can still hold you. if one of the valves breaks there are 2 other vales and the ride makes an emergency stop.Maybe a slow decent was the only safe way to get them out in this case.
And they show that they know NOTHING... but absolutely NOTHING about amusement park rides.... someone ban them from bringing these news items... but everyone is biting in on it...
The last thing on my mind would be food , and no I wouldn’t want an annual season pass because I would never go on another ride again! What a strange speculation for the reporter to have 🥴
Well, it worked. The alternative is risking every single passenger sliding out of their seat onto a cherry picker, potentially killing themselves and/or the staff assisting them. The winch was a perfect idea so long as everyone watched tf out and communicated properly with others on the ground.
This is a design by the manufacturer... it's an extreme emergency protocol (normally they can manually and slowly get the star down. for some reason this was not possible this time).... but it's a calculated and safe one.

They deserve answers as to why this was how it was handled. Ridiculous!! My legs would go numb.
The motor probably broke... usually an emergency mode is then applied to slowly bring the star down. For some reason this did not work this time... so they had to manually pull the star down with winches.... this takes time as the ride is a heavy thing

Didn't Knotts have their own fire department? Where are the first responders? Knotts went downhill when the family sold the park.
It’s an Edgar attraction now
For reals they got the damn maintenance guy on the lift 😂😂
They cut staff during pandemic lol
They will never show up in this case (unless the park cannot handle this themself, this is only a highly extreme case that they show up).... The reason is simple. the manufacture has calculated in the risk of the ride stopping in certain positions and has an evac manual for this. There is always a way of getting riders off a ride without using the fire department..... better to have your house not burn down because the firemen are occupied doing things the park can do itself.
MASSIVE LAWSUIT COMING! These people deserve at least 6 figures each!
The most annoying part was when the crew was winching down the ride , and the reporter was saying there was no urgency, and why arent they using a ladder...... um, cuz it was obviously working, and they were actively pulling it down safely.
Holy smokes!!ll I've been on that ride before😱

I didn't think so. Thought that they were great. Kept us updated and they added some inciteful information and commentary
Sounds like KTLA is soliciting lawsuits.
They are safer in their seats. Can you imagine trying to unstrap and someone falls. Not a good senerio
Amusment park deregulation is a big factor here. They don't even have to report deaths. Hopefully, these people get some lawsuit money.
It took them 2.5 hours for them to come to the conclusion to manually winch the thing down?
I’d be scared to death but I wouldn’t be on any rides like that. I’m 77, worked at knots 5 years back in 2018 and saw 3 incidents like this with the rides.i prayed immediately as I heard on my car radio- about this. Yes, I’d bet a lot wet their pants!
Put all those bodies in a normal position
In a safe position.
Then rescue will begin slowly
Carefully.
Good to know info about the organs. I really need to stop falling asleep on the couch watching youtube. Always feel like crap when I wake up. Those Genie boom man lifts are pretty scary to ride in. Must of been nerve wrecking on for each one who had to jump or climb into the basket in mid air. You're right about the 1st responders... probably should be a inflatable safety net setup below. Maybe they showed for all we know
Thank you!
I would include that as ptsd/emotional distress in the lawsuit if I was one of the riders.
I don't believe they are waving, probably lack of circulation to the ones on their sides
Ppl are so dramatic including those reporters. They were even criticizing the ppl who were helping saying that they weren’t going fast enough and that it was going to get dark soon. They clearly brought the ride down safely. No one got killed thank God nor hurt from what I see. Why are ppl even saying lawsuits? For what? Stop being so dramatic. No one forced them to go on rides.
Why didn't the fire department show up?
Being stuck in mid-air on an amusement park ride for hours is one way to self-reflection and what you could be doing different (more positively) in your life with your precious time here on earth.
😂 one would hope!
Preach!
Like what
And no, it’s NOT “the worst case scenario”. NO ONE is injured (or worse). Safety of rescue is far more important than speed of rescue.
This ride has been stuck multiple times. It needs to go
This is absolutely not the worst thing that could happen. What kind of person says that. People have died. A young girl here in KY had both legs cut off.
They should have had the fire department to remove each person. They are trained for that kind of thing.
That would be dangerous... and i doubt every rider would even dare to make a jump to the boomlift or ride down a rope........ this would also take much longer.....
This is becoming more frequently could this be a sign 🤔
To Stay off amusement rides.
Knotts and Disney land are neck and neck for having consistent busted rides
everything is the world brakes , lol maybe a anvil last 500 years
Machines have malfucntions. It bound to happen.
I hope everyone is okay. It seemed to go a lot better than some other ride accidents around the world.
I thought six flags is the worst theme park
Probably because she always arrived late.... maintenance always starts early in the morning inspecting the rides (some even at 5:00am for bigger rides..)
That's not a crane, it's not a cherry picker, it's called a zoom boom, the biggest one I've used went up nine stories...
Y'all better leave these rides alone. A lot of these rides at these places don't be getting checked and inspected like they should.
Thats not possible these parks also go through state inspections.
The ones to " better leave rides alone " should be the riders.
They are the ones messing with the safety.
I am sure they are better inspected than your usage of the English language.

How is this any different from a “regular” emergency for an O.C. Fire chief? This is why I don't fully trust those emergency personnel.
Because the incompetent news reporters sold you a story (for clicks and views) about an emergency that is really just a malfunction and riders were never in danger at all...

Ever hear of blood clots?
@@farrellmase I'm not undermining the severity of the situation. There were EMTs (Knotts-Berry Farm EMTs) on-site who were in constant communication with the people stuck on the ride. All of that is taken into account. Fire Deparment will try to minimze damage to equipment when possible and allow employees (Professionals - State Certified Conveyance Mechanics) to work on their equipment. If needed and absolutely necessary they will take over the rescue procedures.

And before anyone comments... Yes, would love to be in there..... it's not everyday you get evacuated on a ride...
Yeah but how about the people who are afraid of heights and scared of dropping in case ride isn’t very secured? 😣

That ride is Knott that good. Sorry, just could resist the Berry bad pun.
I wouldn’t think a winch is a smart idea if those cable lines break that definitely kill a worker or a bystander very dangerous
