Idiot Drivers UK - Drivers Caught Going Through Red Lights

  • Red light offences caught on camera. The penalty for this offence ranges from 3 penalty points plus £100 to £1000 fine. More serious offenders may go to court and receive a fine and an instant ban. These clips demonstrate why it is so important to check before entering a junction - even when your light is on green! Remember, the next idiot driver may be just around the corner.

    With companies like Next Base with the dashcam footage able to be forwarded to the Police, these idiots can now be prosecuted using the video footage as evidence the police do not need to be there anymore to catch and prosecute them at the time, that is the other good reason to used a dashcam on the road. If you say it was not you driving and refuse to name the driver you are then prosecuted for withholding information and obstruction of justice , you will still get the points and an even bigger fine

    Informative video🎉. I usually always slow down on amber even if i can make it. Rather be paraded by horns then a 3 point fine tbh. It seems that the UK is lacking in red light cameras. Saw on a map and we dont have nearly as much as the speed ones. Any other way you can be caught breaking a red light from other cameras? Say in a box junction?

    I remember an incident some years back, where a car (private hire, I think it was) ran a red light, and found himself coming to a dead stop as he slammed his car into the centre of the rear wheel of a large tractor. The tractor sustained damage which disabled it for a week or two - The car was destroyed. Apparently, this driver never learnt from his stupidity, and had a similar incident only a few months later. His taxiing licence was cancelled, and he was banned from driving for two years. I don't know how many points he earned, or what the fine amounted to.

    This problem is definitely getting worse.I wish that the road planners could also re-introduce "Give Way" signs at roundabouts.Many drivers just seem to think that they have the right to speed through to maintain the flow.Well , Amber Gambling is dangerous and going through red lights as fast as one can is criminal. Driving instruction on the need to observe regulations needs to be improved.

      The offence is called an “absolute offence” which means all the police have to prove is that you crossed the line while the light was on red. Even if a camera captures this, there’s still a process to decide if it is worthwhile prosecuting the offender. A couple of years ago a case against a learner driver was thrown out when the magistrate saw the learner driver had only crossed the line by 1 metre. So a prosecution COULD be sought but it is unlikely in my opinion.

    • @Studidit
      @Studidit  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you’ve already crossed the stop line, there’s no offence committed with regards to a red light offence. The decision to continue through is very much based on the circumstances. If you’re queueing you may wait if you can do so in a safe position. You have to consider pedestrian safety if you’re waiting on a crossing area. You have to consider the vehicular flow from opposing flows and whether you’re creating risk for them or yourself. If waiting within the junction and you would be blocking the flow, you may continue through the junction with caution.

    I accidentally crossed a red today, no more than a second after it turned red, If that! Maybe 0.5 seconds.
    I was being tailgated by a lorry, no more than a foot off my back bumper, and didn’t want to brake hard going 30mph.
    I do realise it was my fault, but I’m sure had I braked, there was a good chance he would’ve hit be.
    He did manage to stop, but I’m not sure if he actually crossed the line as he crossed.
    From what I know, there wasn’t any cameras around.
    It was a pedestrian puffin crossing.
    Chances of getting done for this? Unless the lorry driver sends it in

    • @Studidit
      @Studidit  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      When approaching the crossing you could’ve anticipated the lights changing by recognising the presence of the pedestrian who had requested the light to change. Knowing that you were being tailgated and that you were approaching a crossing, especially where it is likely to change, you should have anticipated the danger and slowed down well before in order to avoid a rear end collision. The lorry was only a”foot” off your bumper?? and you couldn’t stop, but the lorry did, sounds suspect. I wouldn’t rely on that as a defence in the unlikely event that you receive a notice of intended prosecution. In the future if you’re being tailgated, increase the space ahead of you. You are in control of the space in front, the following driver is in control of the gap between you. You have no control over this, except by giving yourself more time to anticipate danger and use your brake lights earlier and gradually reduce speed.

    • @Studidit
      @Studidit  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@anonymoushuman8962 you’re correct in saying the black boxes and inductive loops are only there as sensors. They can’t take images for prosecution. The vast majority of traffic light junctions don’t have any red light cameras, they’re usually installed at problem junctions where there have been lots of collisions. Don’t forget though that a police officer only needs to witness you crossing the line on red, no other evidence is required. Also, there are now millions of vehicles fitted with dash cams and many police forces allow video footage to be uploaded for them to use for prosecution.
      The best approach is to anticipate the lights changing. If they’ve been on for some time and you see vehicles or pedestrians or cyclists waiting at the side roads, these have triggered the sensors and the lights could change soon. Be prepared to stop, and on approach, consciously make the decision that it is too late to stop. This decision is based on your speed and the conditions. If you’re familiar with the overall stopping distances in the Highway Code, use these as a guide.

    I’m new to driving and I’ve been so nervous recently as I’ve been going through some yellow light as hardly any time to stop.
    If I go through a light on yellow and it turns red once I have passed or just as passing is this okay I get your point about no part of the car should be on the white line when a red light is shown but surely there is a second or two leeway
    Like sometime I will go through a just turned yellow light and the next one for the same traffic light will be red so I feel like I will be fined I try my best not to go through them but if I go through first on yellow and second one 10 metres away on red is that still illegal or is it just the first traffic light the can do you for
    Thanks for video again mate

    • @Studidit
      @Studidit  ปีที่แล้ว

      Regulations mean at every traffic light the amber is on for three seconds (+/- 0.25secs). Awareness, anticipation and planning on approach to a traffic light should include thinking how long the green has been showing? Is there any vehicles on the side roads or pedestrians who’ve triggered the lights to change? You should pick a point where you get to which means it’s too late to stop safely. Remember amber means the same as red, except if stopping would cause a collision or you to stop over the stop line.
      Lights at many junctions change in sequence as you pass through. If you pass the first set on late amber, you’ll get to the next set on late amber or even early red. If you pass the first set on late amber, you should be preparing to stop at the next set rather than rushing to beat them changing.

  • @davidtaylor4832
    @davidtaylor4832 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Not always so plain and simple. The amber light shows for just 3 second's, irrespective of the speed limit. Thats fine for a 20 or 30 limit but if it's in a 50 or 60 zone that a very different situation. Just imagine hauling a 38 ton artic down from say, 50 to zero in 3 seconds.

      The duration a traffic light is on amber then red is set in regulation. This doesn’t vary. A good driver of any vehicle type will be aware they have been approaching a green light for some time and will be anticipating the change. If they haven’t been able to see the light, they should be anticipating it changing and reduce speed, ready to respond. Any sudden stop will be down to poor awareness anticipation and planning.
