  • Walked up to the Little Manatee River old SAL bridge after TS Debbie. Water was high, but I've seen it higher.

Nice spot there. I`d be afraid to put my toe in the water for fear of a gator biting it off!

Made a horror movie with this bridge and a friend fell off and died in my movie.

I bet this is been asked. But are you guys planning on extending the tracks out to the bridge? Or is management prohibiting that?

Due t the lack of money, it's probably not going to happen. That bridge is not maintained anymore, and crossing it would be extremely dangerous. It would require at least 5 million dollars to bring the bridge up to the current safety standards to make it safe to cross. And on top of that, the train tracks leading up to the bridge are either gone or severely rusted. The rails north of the bridge were ripped up 29 years ago in 1986, and would have to be entirely reinstalled. Lastly, crossing signals would have to be installed at Saffold Road about 2,000 yards north of the bridge, and at FL 674 in Wimauma. If the Florida Railroad Museum wanted to do this, they're looking at a cost easily over 30 million dollars.
