Thanks for watching, everyone! Sorry for the caption error - where it says 'variation on Clarke 1,' for the first little bit of that I was actually playing an Arban study. Filmora has been sneaking weird things past me while exporting lately. My bad!
So, this popped up as a notification on my phone this morning. It inspired me to go back and watch the entire extended version on Patreon, which I confess I didn't have time to watch all the way through previously. I did enjoy the "go on a walk with me" segment that's not included in the Patreon extended version. Some beautiful scenery on your walk, the likes of which we just don't have around here! And gosh, that music in both this and the extended version!!!! 🥰😍🤩❤
Thanks so much for your kind words, Richard! To minimize redundancy, the Patreon cuts are usually just the performance in question, not the “vlog” type stuff. And yes, Spokane’s scenery is pretty incredible! Never gets old.
JP instruments are really good for the money. I have a JP171SW cornet and for less than £300 it really holds its own. Not quite as refined as the higher end options but a brilliant entry-level choice. Great playing by the way, I'm really impressed with how good of a level you play all your instruments at!
I also had a JP-071 cornet, although I ended up finding a Getzen 381 for about $120 shipped that absolutely blew me away with its sound and flexibility at that price point, so unfortunately that somewhat spoiled the JP for me. Their 274 euphonium, though... I have played several professional-level euphoniums (think anywhere from $5,000 to $10,000 new) and the JP has stood up too or exceeded every single one in every aspect with the exception of valve action. The tone of my JP has NEVER left me wanting. Not when I tried a Willson, nor a Yamaha Neo, nor anything else. I suppose what I'm still missing out on having tried is an Adams. But the JP's tone is near perfect for me. Huge and expansive lows, a steadfast darkness at all dynamics, the list goes on. The more euphoniums I try, the more I am thankful for and impressed by the 274. Now I just wish I could get its valves to work better. Thank you for the kind words! That means a lot!
Heard good things about Getzen. Never had the opportunity to play one other than a very battered Capri. It probably was a nice horn before it was sadly wrecked.
This video makes me want to get back to playing euphonium more often! I've been playing trombone in my community band and jazz band and rarely touch my euph nowadays except for TH-cam videos but your playing has inspired me to play more often!
Glad to hear it and I hope you get the chance! Trombone is good fun, of course, but the euphonium is a really special and underused instrument. The more we can find excuses to use it, the better.
Paid gig is always good. How were the acoustics? I had the opportunity to hear Con Brio String Quartet live this past Thursday in a church that had amazing acoustics.
Please check the description for equipment-related queries. I always put everything one would need to know there. I appreciate the kind words, but respectfully, I'm well aware of major thirds and do as much as my horn will allow to intone them correctly.

Great Samuel!👍👍👍
Thank you!
You're so welcome

The acoustics were nice for a small church, not too live thankfully but also nothing phenomenal.
Nice job Sam. What kind of Euphonium is that?
Watch you intonation when playing the thirds of the chords. You always want to lower the third.
It’s a euphonium

5:43 sonic the hedgehog mentioned???
Maybe this is my sign to make a 'The Green Hill' X 'Green Hill Zone' mashup...
