    3:34 you’ve probably seen them before, but a couple years ago small EDF’s like this were released with ailerons and elevators mechanically bound together, the plane intended to fly under delta wing mix. This scale of jet have wings so far back that the ailerons produce a ton of pitching moment.

    • @TwoBrosRC
      @TwoBrosRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, we've definitely seen models like that and usually shy away from them. It's preferable to have them set up that way, but also be able to turn it off instead of it always being left on.

    I really like this plane! It wouldn't take off from my club field with wheels, so I took it to another field with GeoTex. It really scoots! I love how easy it is to fly and land. I thought I was going to love my MotionRC F-22 more, but this one takes the cake with it's better flying habits.

    So Jon it seems like right out if the box its not so hot, but after some cool programming its a blast. AS3X to the rescue...amazing what you can do with it when you know what to do! Working rudders would really set it off. You could high alpha the crap out of it.

    • @TwoBrosRC
      @TwoBrosRC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's very limited in stock config. No servo replacements were made, just some basic rejiggering for full control of what's in the airframe. We think people wrote it off because it looks a little goofy for a F-35, but it's so good when set up right that it's a real gem to fly. Ours has already been cleaned up and just awaits more adventures.

    Your agility testing confirms why the 64mm Freewing F-105 and F-8 have the ailerons linked to the elevators. I thought that would make it fly wonky, but it does the trick!

    • @TwoBrosRC
      @TwoBrosRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      Every little bit of air that can be displaced adds to the agility of these smaller airframes. It also helps the larger ones too!

    I've long thought the F-35 looks like the F-22's chonky little brother. The real plane has some amazing capabilities, but it doesn't look that sleek. I saw one of these models yesterday at our local hobby supply, and looked up videos to see how it flies.

    • @TwoBrosRC
      @TwoBrosRC  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The 70mm F-35 from Freewing is much more true-to-scale and looks significantly better. The 64mm FMS variant is sort of a cartoon character in comparison.

    Own and love this bird. It’s listed as 3s. However, as you did, I’d only recommend 4s. Also, taking the landing gear off helps shed weight and improves the flight. Great bird, just don’t forget no rudder. FMS - please make a v3 with rudder and higher amp ESC designed for 4s

      U can run 4s on this motor but expect around 75A draw on the 40A esc. No wonder the esc will fail. I run the 3150kv 4s version on 5s and have just a little more rpm than this little motor on 4s and I'm at 80A. Change ur esc to an 80A!

    I got mine a week ago. I was puzzled that the motor is practically hanging out the back on v2. I guess it needed more tail weight? Nearly every one of my small EDF's have the motor 30% back from the tail except this one. I got the Freewing F-22 as well to compare and contrast. Yes the F-22 is heavier, but it has a bigger wing. I'm excited to see this fly. I currently fly my 64mm F9f Panther with wheels off a parking lot, so I'm worried about how long its rollout will be with a 3S 2200. I was told not to use a 4S with it.

    Hey Jon. GREAT video as usual. Question. Using a DX9, what is the difference between the Taileron and the Elevon option. Shouldn’t the control surfaces move the same way. I’ve never used the Taileron option yet.

    • @TwoBrosRC
      @TwoBrosRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      Elevons should be used on delta wings with no elevators - where the trailing edge surfaces function as elevators and ailerons combined into one. Taileron mixing is for models that have two servos for the elevator/stabilator surfaces and you want to use them in roll with the ailerons on the wings.

    I’ve bought this plane forever ago, but the church with a 4s 2200 made it incredibly nose heavy, do I just left it sitting.

    • @TwoBrosRC
      @TwoBrosRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      Fun fact - there's a 28g weight under the plastic where the steering system is connected. You can remove that to get the weight shifted aft. You can also shove the battery further back, which is what we did here. It definitely didn't fly nose heavy, but it had to be given how much upward stab trim is required. Rather perplexing when you think about how we managed to make it pull off some of those post-stall maneuvers.
