Ever since I learned about Avatar's new album I've been basically listening to a single song off the album for weeks on end and continue to the next one. And I'm not even tired of it yet.

Honestly kinda sad the spoken word into isn't on the actual studio album version of the song. I mean, the song is already a 10/10, but the intro just makes it a 15.5/10 lol...
In the 8-9 years I've been listening to these guys I've found them to be one of the most consistent bands in metal. Everything they put out is so good !
Corey does gang vocals with Johannes during “Colossus arise!” For those that can’t hear him. He’s really hard to point out until the very end until all the music drops out!

July 15, 2022. Upheaval Festival, Grand Rapids Michigan USA. I saw Avatar live for the first time and yall opened with Colossus!! I have been hooked ever since!! The thick chunky heavy ass riffs, the vocal range, the theatrics, i just cant get enough. Yall deserved a bigger stage imo. I just wish i had gotten into yall earlier when my stepdad was raving about yall before he passed. I dont remember when or where, but Avatar and Gemini Syndrome was his last show a few years back. Definitely want to see yall again!

I want to agree with you, especially with how good the solo is as well as the chorus and all...but it would feel a little out of place on black waltz. I just can't imagine listening to one touch, ready for the ride, let it burn, and then, hey, here's colossus. Maybe I'm wrong, but hey 🤷♂ not to say hunter gatherer didn't have blistering fast and technical songs. Just a different vibe I feel like.

The robot in the video looks sorta like Data from Star Trek. I dont know if it’s just me but I swear I can’t not unsee it now. But, in all seriousness, I adore the futuristic/SciFi style they went for in this video. I have never seen a metal band be this creative with their music videos. ❤
I've been with this band for about five years and the amount of progress they make with every album, get to sound so original, yet always different is INCREDIBLE. I love this band to death. It helped me so much without them even knowing in. THANK YOU AVATAR FOR THAT. You keep being you because you're freaking rocking it every single time.
Wow! From the opening riff, I am blown away and have chills. This is incredibly bottom heavy! This is one of the heaviest new Heavy Metal tracks I've heard all year! It's almost got a Doom Metal edge to it. Slow and crushingly heavy, brutal growls and great cleans.

Never heard of Avatar (the band) until a week ago. Heavy play of Colossus on the radio pulled me in and now I own every one of their releases. I love how diverse they can get. Avatar Country swings and rocks at the same time.
These guys know how to write killer songs. The opening words are badass too. Im glad i gave these a second chance. They've became one of all time favourites.
@@corneliatomson1506 They are very different, and both embody the special sounds of the respective band. In Mourning's Colossus is grand, depressive, typical growling melodic death metal. It has those trademark long wails and roars, like a stormy ocean at night; as the song is on a concept album about the ocean, so it makes sense. Avatar's is more modern, metallic, chaotic, and "Avatar-ish" to the core, pun intended. I could listen to any 10 seconds of each song and identify the bands, which is great. I couldn't call any one of them better than the other. If anything, this song just proved that if a song has "Colossus" as its title, it's guaranteed to be exceptionally good.
@@Deputybob100 there is not objective better in music if not technically. In this case both songs offer the best they can in their own and the respective genre. As the comment buddy says, avatar follows his own sound and themes going for a modern key of reading while in mourning is attached to the death melodic progressive metal standard. Either way, each song is great in its own, so there isn't a winner =)
Avatar the Colossus. So 3 songs in, I think "silence in the age of apes" is overall the best so far, instant catchiness, great guitar work, blueprint of melodic thrash. This song is classic Avatar, inventive riffs and melodies. "God of sick dreams" is the weakest of the 3, but by no means a weak song, I'm sure it will grow on me. I think the best is yet to come, hopefully this album will hammer the point home that we already know......Avatar is a band with every member playing their instruments at the ceiling, and constructing solid, unique, intricate songs that stand on their own. Maybe they are showing us the future of this genre of music..... COLOSSUS METAL. After a few more days of listens....it def. Grew on me. For me, this is the best song so far. just going back to Black Waltz they have come up with a catalog of songs that are all unique to each other yet in the same unmistakable style of this remarkable band of songwriters and musicians. Just badass shit!
Good post.... I personnally got them the other way around. The 3 songs are fantastic, both for me it`s Colossus, God of Weird Dreams, Silence. Just goes to show how the Avatar formula works for any kind of fan really. That being said, I really love all 3 of them, the album is gonna crush
Totally agree! Silence in the age of apes was a really good song. Colossus was a bit experimental but I love it. God of sick dreams was okay but it wasn't something we never heard before. That song could easily be on feathers and flesh. Not that its a bad thing but avatar puts something new out with every album they release.

Cool video, Excellent song! One of my favorite things about Avatar is how every song sounds different. With too many other bands, every song sounds the same, but Avatar has variety and all of it kicks ass.
Johannes and Corey´s voices are so grate, melodic but can do an awesome guttural, i wish Corey sang a part at least but I liked his small contribution xD
I just wish Corey had an appearance in the video. I had always thought it was bullshit that he even featured in this, and thought Johannes just sounded similar in his vocals during "Collossus arise!", but I just saw a video where my two boys are actually in the same studio recording it, so it is 110% Corey growling that part. I wish he would have been featured in the video! Just like he really is the one whistling in 'A Secret Door".
most underrated and under appreciated band out there. every song is so different but all of em SLAP. Solos are amazing, vocals are different in every song, bass is thumpy as hell. every album is completely different but equally good. How they havent blown the fuck up is beyond me

I've been with this band for about five years and the amount of progress they make with every album, get to sound so original, yet always different is INCREDIBLE. I love this band to death. It helped me so much without them even knowing in. THANK YOU AVATAR FOR THAT. You keep being you because you're freaking rocking it every single time.

Wow! From the opening riff, I am blown away and have chills. This is incredibly bottom heavy! This is one of the heaviest new Heavy Metal tracks I've heard all year! It's almost got a Doom Metal edge to it. Slow and crushingly heavy, brutal growls and great cleans.

After reading the lyrics and getting that click of understanding what its about, I was frozen in chills for a solid 10 seconds.
Never heard of Avatar (the band) until a week ago. Heavy play of Colossus on the radio pulled me in and now I own every one of their releases. I love how diverse they can get. Avatar Country swings and rocks at the same time.

@@corneliatomson1506 They are very different, and both embody the special sounds of the respective band. In Mourning's Colossus is grand, depressive, typical growling melodic death metal. It has those trademark long wails and roars, like a stormy ocean at night; as the song is on a concept album about the ocean, so it makes sense. Avatar's is more modern, metallic, chaotic, and "Avatar-ish" to the core, pun intended. I could listen to any 10 seconds of each song and identify the bands, which is great. I couldn't call any one of them better than the other. If anything, this song just proved that if a song has "Colossus" as its title, it's guaranteed to be exceptionally good.
@@Deputybob100 there is not objective better in music if not technically. In this case both songs offer the best they can in their own and the respective genre. As the comment buddy says, avatar follows his own sound and themes going for a modern key of reading while in mourning is attached to the death melodic progressive metal standard. Either way, each song is great in its own, so there isn't a winner =)
I am Colossus by Meshuggah still my fav
Avatar the Colossus. So 3 songs in, I think "silence in the age of apes" is overall the best so far, instant catchiness, great guitar work, blueprint of melodic thrash. This song is classic Avatar, inventive riffs and melodies. "God of sick dreams" is the weakest of the 3, but by no means a weak song, I'm sure it will grow on me. I think the best is yet to come, hopefully this album will hammer the point home that we already know......Avatar is a band with every member playing their instruments at the ceiling, and constructing solid, unique, intricate songs that stand on their own. Maybe they are showing us the future of this genre of music.....
COLOSSUS METAL.
After a few more days of listens....it def. Grew on me. For me, this is the best song so far. just going back to Black Waltz they have come up with a catalog of songs that are all unique to each other yet in the same unmistakable style of this remarkable band of songwriters and musicians. Just badass shit!
Good post.... I personnally got them the other way around. The 3 songs are fantastic, both for me it`s Colossus, God of Weird Dreams, Silence. Just goes to show how the Avatar formula works for any kind of fan really.
That being said, I really love all 3 of them, the album is gonna crush
Totally agree! Silence in the age of apes was a really good song. Colossus was a bit experimental but I love it.
God of sick dreams was okay but it wasn't something we never heard before. That song could easily be on feathers and flesh. Not that its a bad thing but avatar puts something new out with every album they release.

Cool video, Excellent song! One of my favorite things about Avatar is how every song sounds different. With too many other bands, every song sounds the same, but Avatar has variety and all of it kicks ass.

Johannes and Corey´s voices are so grate, melodic but can do an awesome guttural, i wish Corey sang a part at least but I liked his small contribution xD

I just wish Corey had an appearance in the video. I had always thought it was bullshit that he even featured in this, and thought Johannes just sounded similar in his vocals during "Collossus arise!", but I just saw a video where my two boys are actually in the same studio recording it, so it is 110% Corey growling that part. I wish he would have been featured in the video! Just like he really is the one whistling in 'A Secret Door".
most underrated and under appreciated band out there. every song is so different but all of em SLAP. Solos are amazing, vocals are different in every song, bass is thumpy as hell. every album is completely different but equally good. How they havent blown the fuck up is beyond me
usually people who use the oh sooooooooooo overused terms underrated, under.... know people with little musical taste may i suggest you pick better people?
Prob takes a hell of alot of work to be this phenomenal& stay under the radar. 😉
