I love how Lisa Ling went: okay Christina you PROVED yourself lol at the end of what a girl wants performance, almost like "gurllll you did A LOT just now all that extra riffs and runs" lol i love it.
This must have been one of the very earliest performances of this version of What A Girl Wants. The ad libs and vocal stylings are nearly identical to the ones on the single. As she performed the song more and more in 2000 she made slight melodic changes/pitch alterations. I think this version is great.
I think this was the radio edit she was promoting with at the end of the 99 like September, October 99 but by the December I remember reading somewhere that her label changed it fully to the music video version. I prefer this version and the original album edit tbh. Her vocals where more in the front of the mix, the video version hid them behind the mix a bit more tbh.
I don't think it was shade. This was probably her first live performance on broadcast television. MTV was a small audience and this was major network performance, after Genie went no. 1. So, people still didn't know she could really blow and blow live ;)
