    If you want to clean the oil and recover the sediments. You can use a centrifuge filter. It will clean your cutting oil back to new and remove all sediments and material.

    Removing the sediment from the oil should be pretty easy. Add all of it to water and aggitate to get the oil to float on top of the water and the sedment to sink into the lower water layer. If the oil is a bit too viscous and is clinging to the sedment, add some gasoline or similar thin solvent to get it to release the sedmient.

    I use 4 items to get the majority of oil out of the rock saw sludge. 1 5 gal bucket, 1 3 gal bucket dotted with 1/4 inch holes in the bottom, a plastic flower pot, and a stack Brown lunch bags. Put a second lunch bag inside the first open lunch bag, this makes a 2 layer filter bag which is placed in the flowerpot. This unit is put inside the 3 gal holed bucket that is stacked on the 5 gal collector bucket. Fill the lunch bag with sludge, the oil will filter thru almost clean as brand new oil.
    It's slow, but cheap, unlike a centrifuge filter setup at a cost of 2 grand or more.

      @@geraldbrunckhorst8291 Yes, this is what I do with the oil after I do a clean out of my saw. I don't have to do it often because I have the centrifuge system on my saw. A better way though, is to make a bigger set up and use a 5 gallon bucket that you have put a lot of holes in with a hole saw or a drill.. The sea is to have a relatively smooth surface on your "sieve". You put a grocery bag in the bucket sieve and place it in another container that is just slightly larger such as one of those yard totes with rope handles. Elevate the bucket off of the bottom a few inches so the oil has somewhere to flow down to. Then you pour the slop from the saw into the bag inside of the bucket and let it filter through. It is not a fast process and can take weeks. You want to keep it out of the rain and other water sources. Heat will make it go faster but will not make it take less than a few weeks. I have one in the garage that is almost completely drained out. It has been sitting for about a month. After that, Jason will still have the rock snot. My recommendation would be for him to put the entire bag of rock snot in a metal bucket and place it in a well controlled fire, slowly vaporizing the oil that remains and burning it up. The results should be a poorly consolidated glob of hard powder.

    jason as always thanks for the vids ! for your oil saws an old mechanics trick to filter used oil was to place one 50 gallon drum atop another and using a siphon effect and capillary action draw the oil through a length of natural fibre rope..leaving clean oil in the bottom and a length of particulate contaminated rope. im guessing there is not much oil in the saw process but thin what ya get with a solvent and strain it through a rope ..takes time but a lot cheaper than centrifugal separators

    For the oil based fines, warm the oil to decant the oil off the top. The ash off the rest. We do an ash test at work where we muffle furnace a sample to 1000 F. Your muffle furnace is small, may need to slow heat it by putting in your smelt furnace with the lid off and the flame on low. The organic stuff burns off leaving the inorganic stuff behind. Then I’d use your recipe for smelting

    I recommend burning the oil off, Jason...? I think the oil will vaporize at a much lower temp than it would take to smelt the ore. Also, I would smelt the clay fines for hyper-suspended gold particles...just to see if hyper-suspension locks up gold in the panning process. It would be an interesting experiment, at the very least.

    For the oil and sediment use brown paper bags, just ones that are approximately the same size as your drain tube. The oil will move to the bag (takes 2-14 days).
    Just put this bag over the tube, ziptie it tight and wait. You may need to add fresh oil to lighten up the mix.
    When it hits the bag the sediment clogs the bottom but the bag works as a capillary and wicks the oil up then ouy and down. With any luck you'll also be able to reuse the oil it separates.
    Is that just mineral oil or is it petroleum based? If it's petroleum based get a can of Luiqi Moly from autozone or wherever and let the sediment sit in that if you're not comfortable burning it off. If you're ok buring off the oil and sludge let it soak in gasoline over night then filter again which should remove most the oil
    Not sure about cutting mineral oil.

    As someone who's never mined gold, or had anything to do with rock saws of any kind, I may have an idea about the gold in the oil saws. You can try filtering the oil through some of that cloth, and then burn whatever was left on the filter. Basically heat it to the point where it's neither burning nor smoking any longer. That should get rid of all oil residues and leave only the clean material along with with some ash. Then you just pan the thing and proceed as normal.

    Harbour Freight used to carry but not anymore, an Air Blow gun pneumatic cleaning gun with 4 feet of hose Temu has it for $9.48, NAPA Auto parts have exact same thing for $35.00, also has an adjustment screw to regulate the size of spray. To get the oil out of the sediment (not entirely) you take a bucket, put some holes in it, set it above another bucket. In the top bucket you place 2 paper bags. In the bags you put the sediment/oil mixture. This will separate most of the oil from the sediment, and will give you back clean oil for the saw.

  • @Jatslo
    @Jatslo 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Processing gold contaminated with oil requires careful handling to ensure both the recovery of the precious metal and the proper disposal of the oil. Here's a general outline of how the process could be approached:
    1. The first step is to separate the oil from the gold sediment. This can be done through various methods such as using a centrifuge, gravity separation, or chemical treatments. Centrifugation can help in separating the heavier gold particles from the lighter oil.
    2. Once the oil is separated, solvent extraction can be employed to remove any residual oil from the gold sediment. Solvents like alcohol or acetone can be used for this purpose. The sediment can be soaked or washed with the solvent to dissolve the remaining oil.
    3. After solvent extraction, the gold sediment needs to be thoroughly dried to remove any remaining solvent. This can be achieved through air drying or using low heat to evaporate the solvent.

    • @Jatslo
      @Jatslo 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@billschafer4531 In the gold recovery process, the initial step involves separating the gold from the oil, typically in a water-based solution. Once separated, the sediment containing the gold undergoes further cleaning with alcohol or acetone to eliminate any remaining oil residues. Subsequently, the solvent is vaporized to leave behind the gold-bearing minerals, ready for additional refining steps. Notably, the oil can be efficiently recirculated back into the saw, ensuring a sustainable and environmentally friendly approach. I'm familiar with regions like Portland, OR, as well as California, Washington, Colorado, and Alaska, having actively engaged in prospecting and mining for several decades.

    Typically we put some narrow containers installed right side inside our oil saw, we will periodically scoop up residue it will settle in container, after awhile oil layer can be decanted off the top, we then have two 5 gallon bucket, secured together with the top bucket with multiple drilled holes which also has a lid secured to the bottom this then fits to the top of the other bucket, we then take and make filters using news paper which then put the residue to drain, filter out any more oil ( key for us it to reclaim oil)

    I think you got the bucket at right time, think you either need to drain the water out of the bucket or get a bigger tub as a replacement for the bucket otherwise youd need to changed out the buckets constantly.

    Try a sample of the oil/ore dust mix with a few different solvents. I'd bet either gas or alcohol will thin it out enough to filter the particles. Perhaps give the shop towel a pre-burn before it goes in the furnace to prevent a fire.

    Solvents? like acetone? gets the oil in an watery substance! No need to worry about adding water to it and having some oil left. if you wash/pan out the gold the oil/acetone/water should stay in one layer/mixture.

    Simple Green Industrial Strength for the sludge. For your dirty oil, a deep oil filter for a truck with a few holes poked in the outer shell but not through the filter material. Attach the filter to the bottom of a bucket as a hopper and pour.

    Depends on the type of oil but I would think use turpentine or brake cleaner to thin out the oil to allow the cuttings to fall out then depending on the oil type again get the cuttings in to a crucible and cook off the oils then pan it or depending on the volume just melt it down to a Gutenberg

    With the oil saw I would try putting the sludge in water and slowly heating to force the oil to the top and pour off the oil. I don't think that I would try dish soap because that is and emulsifier and would cause the oil to drop down not float off. Just an idea...

  • @adamlumpkins2000
    @adamlumpkins2000 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Jason you can try to find some emulsifiers that will separate the oil from water, they make a chemical that's in powder form that is made for diesel/ oil spills. They also make a chemical called microblaze you can check out

    Thin the oil out maybe petroleum, decant the oil off as if you were paning add more thining agent and repeat once all the oil is gone you can just sit it aside and let it dry. If it doesn’t dry repeat a few more times, of course you could burn the oil off but I suspect the ore would spit every were it would get caked in carbon plus what ever else is in the oil . Hope this helps

    I'd be willing to bet that you could run the oil saw sediment through the shaker table and it should in theory separate the oil and mud.
    If you use some soap to prewash the mud you could possibly get the oil to separate there too

    Ethyl alcohol is a good degreaser and is available in commercial quantities. I'm not sure how you'd set it up, but if you're not trying to keep the oil it might work - you're the process guru.

    Heat the oil up and run it through 10 coffee filters turned inside out and separately stacked within themselves. You will have to figure out how to remove the residual oil from the cuttings or the super fine gold will never settle properly. Perhaps the oil can be broken down via enzymatic activity? Soap/borax n hot water? or just smelted?

  • @DrSafely
    @DrSafely 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Centrifuge sounds like the best idea, then stick it in a crucible and heat it up to burn off the oil. The centrifuge that is cheapest is a bucket with a lid and a rope attached. I learned it in college!

    there is a lot of solution to separeret sediment from oil, one is to use a good amount of water and good amount of soap so the water and oil, emulsify an all the "heavy" material like gold at rock dust will sink to the Bottom and the "oil and water" soap mix will be on the top like a white cloud (white cloud if the oil is clean, but it will probably be more brown than white)

    Jason you have the equipment to crush glass into a powder much like sea foam. Filter your oil and you should be able to recover your oil. As a bonus fine sea foam should stop even flour gold although it could be slow. And then just melt the glass and gold.

    Mineral spirits or laquer thinner should break down the oil and allow all the metallics to drop out of it, acetone might work as well and then you can just rinse it with distilled water afterwards. I wonder how much more gold is locked up in the stuff you panned off if you smelt it all down.

    As long as the oil seperates with water i think putting what you cant skim off the sentiment in a bucket with water and letting it do the work for you is the easiest, and cheapest though not the quickest way. If it doesn't work 100% your out time but not much else. Then you can get more complicated if you have to. And a container that is taller and skinny will make skimming the oil off easiest I would think as well less surface area to spread out on. For fun you could make a centrifuge with a container that you put the contaminated debri in closest to the motor shaft and a screen with coffee filter or finer sandwiches between two screens so that as the container spins around the shaft it pulls/pushes liquid to furthest end of the container through the screens and filter. I like those ideas the best and would tey mechanical means before solvents myself.

    You can clean up the oily sediment with a little gasoline. Just throw the sediment into a glass gar and add a little gasoline to the mixture and shake. The gasoline will thin out the oil enough to allow the heavys to sink, then just pour out the gasoline. You can then set the ore out in the sun on a plate or you can light it on fire to evaporate the gas.

    think i would go with chemical extraction for this fine stuff. if you had a larger volume of cuttings it would make financial sense to extract the valuables. as for the oil saw i would probably say burn off the oil, then remill and extract chemically too along the other fine material. using water on fine material like this would risk the water surface tension lifting up the dust during panning.

What if you just went to the parts store like a Napa and bought an oil filter that goes on maybe a semi truck or even a car and pump that oil into that filter and then back out the other holes and then maybe just use that oil filter as your crucible🤷🏻‍♂️ number two why not just drop a little bit of mercury in there and roll it around a few put it on some sort of vibration and then straighten it out with some cheese cloth😅
