Kumu Charles Kaupu was an amazing chanter. I was lucky enough to take a workshop in Hayward,CA that he offered us and though it was really difficult and I suspect I didn't learn as much as I would have liked, I was thrilled to be able to study for 2 days with him. I think we were present for this because Maile brought out the new baby. Kumu Mark is so very amazing and he resurrects some of the wonderful older chants, but he infuses them with his own unique styling. I am so lucky to have gotten to study with him for a couple of years. It takes a lot longer than that to make a dancer, but for me it was bliss. Wonderful tribute. Oakland CA 2022

Lucky I got to see this halau in action at Merrie Monarch - they were absolutely my FAVORITE!! Mahaloa nui loa, Kumu Ho`omalu - the Hula world will never be the same!
