R.I.P. Joe Morgan. Two game-winning hits in this classic series.

Not MVP of the Series, but probably should have been.

7:10 "Pete Rose, will he get those 3000 hits? I wouldn't doubt it, he's got over 2500 now and he takes great care of himself. He's durable... should have 3 or 4 more years.." LOL how about 10 more years and 4000+ hits

34:24 I’m shocked looking at the background to see the number of seams and lips coming up from the ground in that outfield turf at Riverfront. It’s unbelievable by today’s standards that this was considered a major league playing surface back then. These guys were taking huge injury risks running and jumping at full speed on that surface.

I gotta say I know the Navy Blue is our color but I’ve always thought the red Hats from the 70s looked cooler!

It is incredible that last play of the game was bases loaded and best hitter at bat and nobody at the stadium seems enthusiastic. No one is on their feet or clearly cheering. Would be same scenario after the 90s and would be huge noise and everyone on their feet

we live in an era where TV has taught people you have to paint yourself in team colors and go apeshit all game hoping to get on screen time

I seem to recall Cecil Cooper having a much more open batting stance later in his career with the Brewers, kind of like Rod Carew, but maybe I’m misremembering.

Corrrection, Mr. Gowdy: Bench's WS homers were in '70 (not '71), '72, this one in '75, and two in '76 against the Yankees. Johnny played in 10 postseason series and hit at least one HR in each series except for the previous series to this one, the '75 NLCS against the Bucs. He didn't hit one in that 3-game sweep. In fact he only had one hit (a single) in 13 AB. So he came into this series ice cold.

Gowdy could not be more annoyed that the Reds won. Sounds like he's calling a meaningless slow pitch game in a park.

Of course, he is, that non-interference call cost the Red Sox the game for sure, terrible way to let a classic game end!

He led off the first two games as well (I'm watching in order so can't tell you the rest). Pretty odd lineups for Boston with Evans batting 8th as well.

So ya saying Armbrister didnt have the right to run after hitting the ball ??? Never heard of a batter having to wait for a play before he could start running,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,alot of big butts as wide as the shoulders on that field,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,most men have flat shoulders and they are wider than the hips,,,,,alot of big butts out there

to see an umpire who bet on a game look at 1:10:14 - the pitch was a ball anyway, but this degenerate emphatically calls strike 3 after two reds go back to back home run, against his obvious choice of the redsox for his bet this afternoon. In fact go back to see conception hit his hr, and the pitch before it - in question - then dave hits his hr, then the next red homers, and then watch this umpire punch out this batter, trust me iv'e been gambling for decades and only stopped recently due to cosmic destruction/impending doom! - but i know damn well what it looks like when some one has a bet going...especially when they are losing! - so to really catch this humming bird in action, you have to1:05:48, and as you cruise to 1:10:14 - i'm going to actually show you this umpire throwing a fit at the prospect of losing his bet. After the next batter hits a home run, watch the umpires arms just after the batter makes contact, and before the camera leaves to follow the path of the ball, at 1:08:11 - you will see this!! - this dirty umpire - lifts both his arms as if to say ahhh camon" just after the swing makes contact, he knows it's prob a home run, and he's right! so he's really wound up, you have to be quick to catch this but pay attention to the ump - much more than the game, and you will catch this! now i still have not seen rest of game, but i'm willing to guess the redsox somehow come back and win, WITH OF COURSE THE HELP OF THIS UMPIRE. p.s. he could also have bet the total to go under, by watching his body language - he either bet the redsox or the game to go under/ i'd say 9 runs was the total back then.
