Eric Davis,Chris Sabo,Barry Larkin,Paul O'Neil,Billy Hatcher,Jose Rijo,Tom Browning and the Nasty Boys. There were many others I didn't mention but this Reds team was unstoppable. Love this team.
That 3rd inning was like a dream. All Reds fans knew at that moment, that we were going to win a WORLD FRIGGIN SERIES!! To do that in their home stadium was incredible.
Once the Reds plated 7 runs on the board in that top half of the 3rd inning, it was pretty much a forgone conclusion that the Reds were on their way to a World Series, which was still shocking in the fashion that they did so.
They weren't the Big Red Machine of the 70's but this 90's Reds team might be one of the most underrated World Series winning teams. They swept a strong Athletics team that was in their 3rd consecutive World Series.
It was such a great A's team too, they brought back the '89 Championship team much healthier, Rickey won MVP, Welch won 27 games and the Cy Young, Stew won 20, and we got clobbered like that!
That Reds team was GOOD, if you go Wire to Wire you've earned a Ring. It's in Top 10 of Upsets in World Series History. Btw one of my favorite non A's teams I ever watched was the 1999 Reds team, they had great uniforms and played their asses off.
Cincinnati Reds fans are so glad to have had the Houston Astros as a triple a team. After all, they gave us THE Joe Morgan, Cesar Cedeno, and Jack Bellingham in the 70's, and Billy Hatcher and Bill Doran for the 1990 WS season. Shame homeboy B. Doran was injured. But then, Moore would have started Game 6, and in Riverfront, they could have scord twice as many as they got at the Coliseum. He was brutal that year,not just in the postseason, and even though he had much better numbers in '91, he was so-so in '92, with two bad outings in the playoffs. With this game, the shot of him warming up in the bullpen, and looking like he'd rather be somewhere else, pretty much summed up the night for the A's.
I was at the game, and I'll never forget jumping up and down, hugging my dad, and thinking we might be able to pull out of it ... but it didn't last long.

I'm confident that if Billy Hatcher isn't taken out by Dave Stewart's errant pitch to his hand during the top of the 1st inning in Game 4, then Hatcher is a no brainer for winning the 1990 World Series MVP instead of Jose Rijo.
They showed in the beginning of this series that the A's had won 10 WS games in a row. Just behind the all time record of 12. After this series, the Reds have won 9 in a row. Game 7 in '75, 4 in '76, and 4 in '90.

The Oakland Coliseum was quite nice before Al Davis ruined it. I think it's still better than the Rays' park. It's open air, great weather, and natural grass.

When this game aired originally, I didn't get on the radio until all the scoring was over with. But Mike Moore's high ERA coupled with the Reds tendency to always score runs for Browning, I knew it would happen. Actually after game 2, I knew it would be a sweep. I would have put money on it. After game 2 they had beaten Stewart, beaten Eckersley, the A's couldn't get Billy Hatcher out. And I had forgotten how good a 3rd baseman Chris Sabo was. He was Brooks Robinson Junior in this game. In game 4 when Stewart beans Hatcher in the first inning, I knew they were really desperate. It was still a close game and it ended with a great pitcher's duel.
I always thought it was asinine that they gave the 1981 World Series MVP award to three Dodger players - why not just give it to the whole team, for crying out loud - but in this series it could justifiably have been given to three Reds players: Rijo, Sabo and Hatcher. Of the three, I think Sabo was most deserving.

That simple move alone killed the mystique of the all star game and the World Series. The Indians changing their name was the absolute last straw for me.

Vintage toys, vintage guns...Local sports is still ok to watch for me, high school, JC, maybe some D1 and D2 college level stuff as long as they stay out of politics...I have also been having fun going backwards in time with movies, have been really into the old detective movies/Noir stuff of late.

No, it's Rickey Henderson and most agree. Rose was a good hitter, but Henderson had tremendous speed and hit for power that Rose lacked. Plus, his OBP was off the charts. That's why he's the best.
