what has been proven is that TSG's ebay account (which he changed the name on in an attempt to keep its identity secret) was selling the same number of mythic rares that happened to go missing from CFB's inventory at the same time. that's enough circumstantial evidence to fire him and ban him from the community, regardless of what the law says
No that has NOT been proven - it is the published reason CFB stated. Police explicitly said that this is NOT TRUE. "I did not perpetrate theft from Channel Fireball. On August 9th 2012 I went to CF in order to film Magic TV. Instead I was confronted and interrogated for 3 hours by local police detectives. I answered all their questions and was immediately driven to my home where I turned over my personal collection including sealed products; they hoped to link bar codes on boxes from my collection to similar boxes believed to have been stolen from CF. After being up until all hours of the night, I slept in late and awoke to find one text message and one missed call as the only attempted correspondence from CF. Since then I have had no further contact with the company CF. The detectives told me I would need to wait for them to investigate potential matches between CF inventory holes and my own collection as well as track the origin of bar codes from my boxes. After more than a month of waiting I was informed the police had found zero links between my cards/products and the stolen materials. I was free to pick up my items. Case closed. I did not steal from Channel Fireball. I have chosen to remain silent on this whole matter in the hopes that it could be resolved quickly and quietly, also because I was deeply hurt by the post made on CF about this matter. I do not know why CF posted such a thing and can only assume it was posted out of hurt and presumed betrayal. This has been a very public and hurtful experience and I have tried to act with professionalism and dignity. I have no desire to call anyone names or throw out cruel accusations, those who have hurt me know who they are and there is no need to talk about them, they are no longer worth my time. " Don't be a fucking sheep. Listen to both sides and be neutral. Don't repeat things parrot-fashion - embarrassing! " When ChannelFireball management contacted eBay, eBay confirmed that the account was owned by a Shaun Gregson. " WRONG! That would mean ebay broke the law LOL. "ChannelFireball arranged for cards to be purchased from “eldraziseller,” and the PayPal account to which payment was made was registered to “Tristan Gregson Gregson.” " LMFAO you don't have access to that information - you only have access to the E-FUCKING-MAIL of the account owner. Sloppy, CFB, very sloppy! "The police confronted Tristan Shaun Gregson, and he admitted to owning the “eldraziseller” account." OMG... Why would he have to admit owning the account when, apparently, CFB already had access to this information? And how would CFB know about that? Police is bound to not giving away information in regards to an ongoing investigation, yet this was written on August 14th 2012. It's just a joke. I don't think that TSG actually sued CFB but he would've been able to - Just like CFB would've been able to sue TSG for spreading false information on the case, but, WHO KNOWS WHY WINK WINK WINK, CFB has no released another statement ;) Who knows what the real reason behind getting rid of TSG is. Fact is: what was claimed was bullshit and CFB knows it. Shame on that shitty, hoarding, worthless company!
The one thing I would love from magic would be to improve the pro tour coverage and find a way to make it into a spectator sport. Currently it is so hard to watch for people that do not know of every card that could be played or there is so much down time or it is difficult to follow your favorite pro tour players. Not exactly sure how to pull it off without switching to a digital form which loses much of the nuance, but as a casual player that enjoys watching the high level play making the game easier to watch would make it so much better.
In a perfect world (no artificially held-up "rarity" because of easy profit without having to work for it), the cards would cost you exactly as much as the production of them costs, with a small, yet fair amount of profit for the popularity of the game idea itself. Any justification for card prices above 50 cents per ANY card is, without any exception, motivated by greed and egoism, paired with ignorance towards the financial system, aswell as history itself.
@@47Mortuus not really that argument shows ignorance to the financial system, in order for companies to make profit and the economy to function they have to sell things for more than they cost to make, because most companies act as a middleman between the raw supplies and the consumer. take magic as an example its not like someone could go and print their own cards with their own paper because it wouldn't be allowed.
@@samwigderson6966 So there's no problem with a) it not being allowed to (nice regurgitating of an obvious dogma btw) and b) quote "MOST" companies making profit by offering shit that nobody needs? apart from transportation and storage, there is no further major need for any kind treatment of goods, especially when it would result in the human garbage we have in OUR society - like the entire marketing industry for example, or - to a lesser extent - some shopkeeper who's playing nice with me because he can make 50% profit off of me(people get paid for ripping other people of in your beloved eCoNoMy). And in your eyes, these people contribute a lot to society ("in order [...] for the economy to funtion"). Yeah - there's no use talking to people like you. IQ 60 - Regurgitating all day.
@torgyman True, which is why players are required to play sleeved or use one of the checklist cards (which are in the tips and tricks slot) as a proxy.
I like Ebon Praetor. I'm thinking of making a casual deck based around it. On the other hand, that was roughly the time I sold my collection, so yes that set did drive a lot of people out of the game.
Surprised not to see a few things on the list: 6th ed rules changes and Equipment I guess I can understand, but most of all, splitting Type 1 from Type 2 tournaments.
I'm most amazed that Ravnica didn't make it anywhere in the list. One of the best blocks of all time, following the terrible 2-turn combo that was Urza block. They single handedly saved Magic with Ravnica. With Fallen Empires, yes it was important that they could distribute things equally, but the fact that they fixed their supply chain shouldn't be the reason why Fallen Empires is in the list. Ravnica got people back into Magic after they were leaving it in droves. It saved Magic.
I remember Chronicles days. I traded "The Wretched" to some guy (At the time was $40.00) for an "All Hallow's Eve" and a few other rares. About an hour later, the owner released the suspected spoiler list to everyone.
I'm surprised at the card prices of the time. I'm more surprised that people think they could buy GG at $2 at that time, when it's clearly stated that that price is the CFB buylist price (i.e. they are buying GG at that price, not selling it). Like, c'mon people, you only needed to drift your eyes a little to the left and read "buylist prices".
Great stuff, and an awesome history lesson for those of us who weren't around at the time. It's amazing to think I started in '03, which at this point is almost half Magic's lifespan ago. Dear God.
@MBP765 You'd really consider that to be a massive shake-up? It made some cards better, some worse but I wouldn't call put it in leagues of the things they mentioned.
35:27 I agree LSV. Just banning Emrakul would have had a significant effect on the meta. Eye of Ugin might still have made the deck just a bit too good, but it would have been more workable.
I was pretty certain that #2 was going to be 6th Edition rules, and #1 the 8th Edition card face. I'm pretty surprised neither was on the list. Out of those 10 total things, the card face is the only one I still think was a disaster. Magic used to look so much better.
They completely mid-analyzed the impact of Mythic rares in the game. Mythics are the same rarity as old school rares. In order to make Mythics, they instead cut the number of rare cards per set and double-printed all the "regular" gold symbol rares. That means every set has about half as many rare cards compared to the old sets and that also means Standard has several hundred cards less to play with.
I started playing when Darksteel came out. I've opened my share of fallen empires packs (store had them for $1.50 each) Fallen Empires was horribly overprinted. I figured it was an old set and HAD to be worth something. I figured the 6th or M10 rule changes would have made the list.
It's funny how they mention chronicles 2 could happen any day and would devalue cards... We have a million Masters sets now and the value of most cards has barely been touched lol
@anstytroll11 i totally agree with you there, magic is a game, and games should be about fun and not people emtying their wallets on cards and then sellling them like merchandise instead of playing with them.Actually, i have found that a real way to not care about your wallet and play magic still is 1) mental magic(see wizards site for details) and 2) printing proxies for decks or entire cubes,or anything that you like, really. But this goes to all magic players.MAGIC SHOULD BE ABOUT FUN,NOT MONEY
Many of the old cards were completely broken, and should never be played. There is also a ton of cards which are way too bad to ever see play. Most of the cards - not on the reserve list - that do not fall under either of these categories have been reprinted.
hmmm.. m10 rules change not on list? 6th edition rules change not on the list? wtf? having said that humphrey in the tags brings up alot of irrelevant related videos...just saying.
also can i walk up to this game to day and play it if your new the answer is NO the cards are confusing as hell i got one here "DESTROY BLOCKED CREATURES" WTF and dont get me started on planes walkers i have 2 i have no clue how to use them at all
Collectors... they son't want collectors to lose thousands of dollars. I know people who would honestly lose $10 000 if the original duals were reprinted. Modern Masters was a stretch in of itself.
I wish they still did this
Mashi “once you get used to it, it’s intuitive. That doesn’t make any sense.” LOLLLL
hahahahahaha exactly!
The guy on the left.... on the right?! Now this is a shake up
I'm surprised they didn't mention the introduction of the Stack, or, also, damage going off the stack. Craziness, that.
think that's in the rules change episode.
really a shame that Tristan won't get to ever make that top 8 top 8 lists :(
what happened to him? I'm watching old videos and it seems like he disappeared from the channel over night
whoa what did he do???
Nothing has been proven to this day.
Police even says it's very questionable that TSG actually did what he was accused of.
what has been proven is that TSG's ebay account (which he changed the name on in an attempt to keep its identity secret) was selling the same number of mythic rares that happened to go missing from CFB's inventory at the same time. that's enough circumstantial evidence to fire him and ban him from the community, regardless of what the law says

i loved that segue with the planeswalker points.
6:30 I am all for reprints that lower card value. You shouldn't have to be rich and elite to play Cryptic Commands and Fetch Lands.

One of the best top 8's to date fellas!
Much like LSV in the pro tour. This show has a lot of top 8s. :)
@torgyman True, which is why players are required to play sleeved or use one of the checklist cards (which are in the tips and tricks slot) as a proxy.
Man, I love the PT. I bought 4x misty rainforests, 4x verdants for 12 ea. and resold them for 70$ ea. thank you PT
Best Top8 subject and video this far!
Keep it up guys!
I like Ebon Praetor. I'm thinking of making a casual deck based around it.
On the other hand, that was roughly the time I sold my collection, so yes that set did drive a lot of people out of the game.
MASHI COME BACK YOU ADD SO MUCH TO THE SHOW
OXYMORONIC!!! I'M LEARNING!!! So fancy, you language, buddy.
Modern card frame?
Surprised not to see a few things on the list: 6th ed rules changes and Equipment I guess I can understand, but most of all, splitting Type 1 from Type 2 tournaments.
Top 8 best Draft videos of CFB's crew. Go go Troy!!
OMG SO MANY VIDEOS!!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!
Thats always been a problem. Enemy fetchlands are now $30 a piece and will probably only go up from now on.

Really no comment on Foils coming in or New frame? All caused tons of uproar, even Combo Winter during Saga was bigger than some of these things
I remember Chronicles days. I traded "The Wretched" to some guy (At the time was $40.00) for an "All Hallow's Eve" and a few other rares. About an hour later, the owner released the suspected spoiler list to everyone.
Bring on Chronicles 2. Let the rest of us play!
100th episode! awesome
"this video gotta be short" 37min .... :D
I would like to see the Top 8 controversies in Magic history
I'm a time traveler from the future and I laugh at Consecrated Sphinx being only $8
William Bowen Karn at $8 :(
I'm surprised at the card prices of the time.

6th edition rules? New card frames?
LSV has lost quite a bit of weight. Good job :)
Great stuff, and an awesome history lesson for those of us who weren't around at the time. It's amazing to think I started in '03, which at this point is almost half Magic's lifespan ago. Dear God.
Damage not stacking anymore?

Only in Magic TV - 11:45. LOL! :D
35:27 I agree LSV. Just banning Emrakul would have had a significant effect on the meta. Eye of Ugin might still have made the deck just a bit too good, but it would have been more workable.
look at the cards before 8th edition, 8th ed and onward fall under moden frame
I was pretty certain that #2 was going to be 6th Edition rules, and #1 the 8th Edition card face. I'm pretty surprised neither was on the list. Out of those 10 total things, the card face is the only one I still think was a disaster. Magic used to look so much better.

Flip cards and Planeswalker Points make the list, but the removal of mana burn doesn't? Seems pretty erroneous.
37 minutes? OH YES
Surprised that the change to damage not stacking didn't make the list.

no new card frame?

I meant the first change in card frame, starting with 8th edition and Mirrodin, "dumbass."
I would put the new card frame under flip cards. Let's assume it comes in 9th.
I wasn't around at the time but to be honest a new card frame isn't really world-shaking like these were.
Urza, Masques, Invasion, Odyssey, Onslaught, Mirrodin, Kamigawa, Ravnica
