Sherlock Holmes as a comedy character does work. It was not only brilliantly done in "Without a clue" with Michael Caine as Holmes and Ben Kingley as Watson (as you said it). Also in the 1930s there was a great German comedy named "The Man who was Sherlock Holmes" with Hans Albers and Heinz Rühmann, two of the greatest German actors who played two detectives who disguise as Holmes and Watson to get some big cases. The movie and the book that is based ON the movie are also filled with references to Sherlock Holems stories and also has Arthur Conan Doyle as a character himself. Those are good examples for Holmes related comedy. This movie however is not a comedy. It is, gently said, crap.

Probably because both actors are way more capable of serious films than comedies where they use the “We’re not Megamind/50 First Dates” excuse to be only about as funny as manchildren giving such mean-spirited insults to people that have way more innocence, strengths and dignity!
so basically there was absolutely no point to this movie
You are wrong buster it is on Netflix in the UK!
HOW CAN THE BRITISH BE THAT STUPID!!!
They now made a Sherlock anime. Haven't seen it yet, but it must be better than this.
It would have been a little funny if it ended with Will Ferrell and John C Reilly playing the stepbrothers from stepbrothers telling this movie to a bunch of kids. one kid yells, "THAT SUCKED!" and the kids and the "stepbrothers" start beating the shit out of each other!
