- The Kabe Line was opened as a private railway in 1909, but was acquired by the Japanese government in 1936 and has been operated by West Japan Railway Company (JR West) since 1987. It was electrified to Kabe Station in 1929 and extended to Sandankyō Station in 1969.
However, on December 1, 2003, the section between Kabe Station and Sandankyō Station (46.2 km) was abolished. On March 4, 2017, the section between Kabe Station and Aki-Kameyama Station (1.6km), which is part of the abolished section, was reopened. In the history of Japanese railways, it is extremely rare for abandoned lines to be revived.
