Pioneer right now is unexpectedly my favourite format in mtg. I have played crazy things like Megamorph, pummeler and more and still managed to have decent results on mtgo. There is a tier 1 which is about 8 decks and 8 more tier 2 decks which are pretty close to the tier 1 and then everything goes and have the potential to upset every tier deck. So much fun. Pioneer is like the brewers format.
Thank you for the end section with intra-deck metagame! I feel like that is a very important part, as some people buying precons just want to sit down around a table as you said. Most people skip this part, but you guys didnt! Pros!
That comment about Modern becoming a "rotating" format may be the biggest mark against it and for Pioneer. It'd be one thing if their Modern Horizon sets were just letting old cards back in but adding powerful new cards completely changes things.
Magic players: Modern is growing stale please print cards to shake it up. Also magic player: Rotation is terrible I don't want to make a new deck every year,

Creating the balance between enough new cards to inject a new meta but not too many that whole decks or cards that people have invested in become immaterial, is a difficult challenge for the card designers. The problem with modern horizons is when it adds so many, and for many people too many, new cards. It's even worse when staples become so expensive. I would proffer that MTG players want 1) reprints of expensive staples so that they and new players can build new decks. 2) are satisfied with enough new sets being made that these sets add enough new cards into the format. Thus overall modern horizons should include more reprints, which it doesn't, and not overly powerful mythic cards, which it does.
"Pioneer is back" when I go onto the wizards website I can't check legality of cards. Soon maybe but it really isn't as supported as people make it out to be. I live in one of the largest cities in the United states and visit one of the largest card shops on the west coast and they do all sorts of format nights and still no pioneer. That could change tho. I'd like to try it!
At 24:5 1 you guys made a mistake. There is an info on screen showing that Orzhov Auras "beats: auras" where there should be "beats: spirits" (unless you guys played a mirror match). Keep up the good work!
Hope you had nice vacations ;) Not as cool as paper gameplay, but something where we can see you 2 interact :D I also think its interesting to see if Pioneer can make an impact or if SARS COV 2 stopped Pioneer in its tracks. Cheers
My LGS struggles to fire standard and pioneer events with more than 4 people. The modern events however, are always packed! Hopefully the precons breathe new life into the paper scene

Speaking about the Lotus Field combo deck, you said to get 4 Botanical Sanctum and 1 Blast Zone, for lands, and 1 Jace, Weilder of Misteries, 2 Niv Mizzet Parun, and 1 Nine Lives, however, which cards should I take out to put those in? I'm somewhat new to MTG, I have played a couple of times and have had some V's under my belt.. I own 2 standard decks (Kamigawa only, since I kinda just started getting into MTG and was lucky enough to open 3 Kamigawa boxes so I have quite a lot of cards), and 2 commanders, (Zombies from Midnight Hunt, multiplayer, and Vampires from Crimson Vow, duel), and currently are in the process of editing a dragon commander deck... So I know a bit... But I've never had a Pioneer deck, let alone a combo deck... So I wouldn't want to mess it up... I want to try this out, and since you said that it's almost basically top deck with just a few upgrades, then it's the perfect deck for me... So if you could help me with this... I'd appreciate it.

Is it worth buying a Pioneer Challenger deck in February 2024? I played from 1995 to 2000. Then again very briefly in 2018 and would now like to get back into Magic. Anyway, I'm wondering which of the many Magic products are the right ones given my Magic situation/history?
@@CardmarketMagic coming off Gruul Aggro competitively its a fun change. Not TOO big brain that its not fun to play but not too mindless either. Im usually not a big fan of long combo decks! Right out of the box its more a less all there it just needs the mana base fixed to really have a better chance for the combo happen earlier. Adding a play set Bala Ged was a huge help and more flip lands. now even against faster aggro decks i can usually get off the combo before turn 5.
I just got myself the azorius and monored deck. Havn't played mtg in a very long time and was just looking for something to have but not standart because i don't want to run after the rotation :].
Spirits without company is playable and still tops from time to time, but the mana base in the precon is still crap to be honest, it needs 2 Spell Queller, 2 Mausoleum Wanderer, 1 Shacklegeist, 2 Selfless Spirit, 3 Nebelgast Herald (or keep Lofty Denial here), and a playset of Hallowed Fountain, Hengegate Pathway and 2 more Glacial Fortress. Maybe some Skyclave Apparition and Mystical Dispute for the sideboard as well.

The spirirts precon is a bad idea now. YOu can get the mono blue spirits for like 20€ or so. Literally not a single card that costs over 1€ in card market
"if you're clever you will sell the omniscience" - This isn't clever since it is a key part of the deck. Why would you buy a £40 deck and sell off a key part of it? Then you're just left with £25 of bulk that doesnt work
It would take something getting printed that would have to combo with it incredibly well. So at the moment I would assume it is a "no where near", but it is one of those types of cards that just needs something crazy to be printed.

As somebody who hasn't really played magic since the early 2000s, modern seems like an absolutely atrocious format to get into. It really doesn't feel like something you can jump into!
Precons are great but at my lgs people bought only spirits As a result we have a unhealthy meta already It's not funny to play 3 turns all against spirits

Yes it is, a friend of mine and me just got back into Magic, we simply buying those Precons to play and they are super fun to play ;)
Lotus with a fixed mana base and a few small tweaks is nuts! so much fun to combo off with that deck!!
Yes I think it surprised us at how popular that precon has been. I think it is because it is an almost complete deck and pretty unique.

Omniscience is just "win more". You don't need it in the deck, unless you're a pure beginner and want to make it as simple as possible.
