What do you think will happen? How might switching to a duathlon impact the event's outcome? 🤔Let us know! 👇
Why don't they switch venues? Duathlon is just not the same sport as triathlon.
It would be criminal if Olympic organizers don't have a backup venue outside of Paris if the Seine is dirty. Not fair to athletes and although the swim is the shortest leg of the race, it still is important and effects the outcome.
Should move it to Nice!
Simple solution, Host the triathlon in Tahiti where the Olympic surf competition is. I bet the athletes would love it
Weather is perfect as well there that time of the year. Honestly even if it was to happen in Paris I reckon the athletes should just say no. That's just filthy... There are lakes they could go to within reach of the subway network, not sure why they want to use la Seine...
Nice idea! 🏝
How do they not have an alternative swim site? Surely there is clean water somewhere near Paris? A duathlon is, by definition, not a Triathlon, and, while I've participated in a race where the swimming was cancelled, I think it would be a grave error to cancel the swim portion of the Triathlon for THE OLYMPICS.
Totally agree, safety of athletes is of course the most important, but a triathlon without a swim is a duathlon.
There are lakes within reach of the subway... Whoever suggested using la Seine is an idiot...
Where would you hold it?
@@gtnDepends on how "Paris" the Olympics need to be.
The rowing venue would be acceptable to me, I'd prefer that over a swim in a pool (superleague style ).
If in Paris is not required than any water body in the area.
@@gtn Haha! In spite of the handle, I'm from America, so I don't know that I have the geographic knowledge of France to say. If the Olympics were in New York and someone asked me to be on the planning committee, though, I'd sure as heck have contingencies for weather related events. I'd start by taking a look at sites where Olympic Distance Triathlons have been held near the original location in the past.
The incorrect spacing of the fins, saddle, and shoes on the left side of the screen make me irrationally upset. Can we get a realignment please?
If I were him I would begin to intentionally space them even worse now.
who hangs their shoes up?
haha! the ocd kicking in - I feel your pain - however you can take solace that the nails in the walls are equally spaced and it is only the laces on the shoes that create the unequal optical illusion.
Why did you point this out to me
Can't believe you didn't comment on the trunking conduit to the TV being off centre!
My guess is that they will - just by total coincidence - have good water quality results before the race.
Nobody would think of bad water quality when reading about triathlete having bad stomachs and spending a large part of their time after the race on the toilet. The race is done and the new olympic champion will make the headlines, not water quality...
For the 2010 winter olympics in Vancouver they set up a dump truck bridge to bring in snow from a mountain 3 hours outside the city. Palms will be greased, the show will go on, the athlete's will do many loose poos!
Have the race where the surfing events are held: French Polynesia.
Mark claiming he watched the T100 but didn't know what Sam Long's penalty was for 🤣. Note: It was for swimskin outside the box after using his transition box as an icebox to pour over his head!
35 min from where I live was for some years hold a short distance triathlon near a lake (reservoir) not swimmable... So the organizing committe got an amibitous idea: creating a giant pool only for each edition of the race. So, they builded on site a pool allowing for a 250m loop, and 3 days before the race they filled the pool (not very deep, by the way), with "tap" water. The triathlon over, they emptied that one weekend pool... only to do it again the years after. That said, my point is that if a small town for a local triathlon can do it, I can't imagine how Paris could not afford to spend what is needed for a backup huge swimming pool for the Olympics.
Cancel the swim in Paris what the hell!! Change the venue where the triathlon can be a triathlon! C'mon France, get your act together!!!
No, they rather discuss for two years if the water is good enough to swim... 🤦
What better way to silence the (drafting) critics by leading the majority of the bike leg? Youri Keulen prepared very well for the conditions of this race and he gave his all, a very well deserved victory! Although the performance of Sam Long was stunning as well, T100 Singapore was a great race.
I can’t believe that a no swim being a probability for some time, even years, they have not work on having a plan B to be able to host it in a different venue. Like for example at Versailles, where the swim could take place at the Swiss pond forming part of the park of the Palace. It’s a body of water, 682 meters long and 234 meters wide where the Versailles Triathlon Festival takes place at the end of May!!!
I know cities already spend a huge amount of moneyfor the Olympics. But a large hollow (like a donut) square or triangular pool with an entrance ramp could help alleviate some of these problems. Could probably find a way to create some small waves as well.
They should move the triathlon and swim marathon to Marseille or another southern French city
Nice?
@@gtn it would be Nice 🤪. I suggested Marseille because they’re already doing sailing and stuff there.
Are there no lakes near Paris?
They have already planned the bike and run course so maybe it’s too late change that to fit with a different location for the swim
Crackers isn’t it? You’d think that would be less bad than cancelling the whole thing. Don’t know.
It can be a huge logistical task to move these things, where do you think would be a better location?
It’s a shame they don’t keep up the water quality at all times
100's of years of pollution... clean it up in 4 years? lol!
Didn't the original Triathlon feature canoeing? Be adaptable and bring it back. :)
We’ve just had so much rain here in Paris, and particularly upriver. I’ve not seen the level of the Seine so high for many years and the rain hasn’t stopped - a couple of downpours again today. I’m sue if we get a dry spell and there’s less run off the water quality can improve sufficiently 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
Parisian as well here.
Since last fall, it has been exceptionnaly rainy on the whole upstream bassin of the Seine river. It has been flooding its banks multiple times accross winter.
The 1.4 billion euro program for improving water qualité started actually in thé 1980s with the Olympics used as an accelerator. There are many indicators, especially fauna and flora pointing to at least OK quality.
The real danger is the current terrorist threat.
If the triathlon switch to a duathlon it's a shame for my country ! They 're so cristal clear lake and river in France and they don't even consider a plan B....
Nice apology ❤ hope you can get russ on the show!
There is always concern of water quality during Olympics. Always the fear of bad water but somehow it happens
Use me as a "wtf" button for the water quality in Paris olympics
First 😂
Your news is five dates overdue. Pity
Heavy rain could get the swim cancelled everywhere? That has nothing to do with the water quality in Paris.
Yes because the heavy rain would increase water levels of the wastewater system which would then be spilled into the river...
Won't be a triathlon then will it! Pathetic
