I had this on 12”; so ahead of its time in terms of remix culture. I remember a lot of people really hated this at the time. I guess they just weren’t ready for it.
It's actually a slightly different DJ mix from the 12" pictured - which is even more mental with Martin's voice at the start and at the end going absolutely doolally.

And originally mixed by Ann Dudley, remember her from the 80s group Art of noise, she worked closely with Trevor horn back in the day, she's never credited but put the finishing touches to a lot of music back in the 80s, she was the musical fixer/arranger for a lot of bands
They were a team from get go (a couple of years before Art of Noise) Ann Dudley did a lot of the additional arrangement. Often strings, pianos and melodic stuff. JJ Jeczalic was the Fairlight guy responsible for creating sounds with sampling and manipulating them. Gary Langan was the '"effects and eq" guy who could turn the really low bandwidth crappy sounds of the Fairlight into gold with compressors, reverb, EQ etc. Trevor Horn was the overseeing producer who mixed and also played bass parts and layed some backing vocals.
Yep - that's the remix which is on the record whose actual image (the label) is shown here - but this mix does NOT feature on the pictured 12" single.....
Visited my parents today who reminded me my 'old records' were in their loft. Found this precise 12" was in there amongst another 50-60 12" discs... interesting! ps. ABC were also great live, saw them at Leeds Uni in 1984/5.

The one pictured - which I bought - was a DJ only special remix which was a very bizarre scratch and dub remix with the vocals all stuttering, pitch bent and looped over and over again - as was the rage at the time (see Malcom McClaren 'Buffalo Girls' and many hip hop records around 1982/1983.). I have no idea why the uploader chose that image to go with this extended remix, which is a special US remix that bears no relation or resemblance to the remix / deconstruction that is shown in the image above!

I have been looking for this mix for a long time. I used to hear it in Hollywood at the clubs I used to go to. I have many records that are DJ copy only. I believe I heard this one back then at Rage in Hollywood and Splash in Tijuana, Mexico back then. I was a CIRCUS DISCO LIFER and that was my second home at the time, and I lived in Orange County back then.
