    Thanks for the review! We seriously appreciate the feedback and are already working on improvements. As others have pointed out, these are artists submissions. We have no direction in what is made. Even our tokens are at the direction of the artist who made them. We hope the marketplace will eventually have something for all tastes, full art, art extensions, art box only replacements. Hope when we've moved from prototype to what our final product looks like we can get you a few more samples for a final review. Cheers!

      Well the fact that you're an artist marketplace certainly changes that whole discussion. I would consider that a selling point of your product - you should make that more obvious on your website, I think a lot of people would be excited about that! :)

    As long as the original name, original CMC, and original rules text are unchanged and 100% readable the alter is generally tournament legal. It is still up to individual judges per event though. So that Sol Ring would actually likely be legal.

    Hello! Thanks for review AlterSleeves! I'm one of the artist that worked and he's still working on Sleeves for AS (The Ezuri you show in your video is mine). I have to let you know that Alter Sleeves doesn't have an Art Director, Alter Sleeves isn't commissioning directly artist like Wotc does, with instruction on what kind of art a precise Sleeve/card needs to have. It'll be a marketplace system, not a production product: every artist will have his marketplace where he'll upload his own alters. Buying the Sleeves will support AS and the artist you're buying from. I hope this clear a lot. Cheers.

    • @MTGDegree
      @MTGDegree  5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Hey, that sleeve was great, good work. I looked at the website and Kickstarter, and I guess it wasn't obvious that it was a marketplace setup. I agree that changes the discussion about the art direction.

  • @Izzetrix
    @Izzetrix 5 ปีที่แล้ว +46

    Couple of things.
    1. Customers will be able to order sleeves based on the set. So there will be different option for different set prints of the same card.
    2. It is set up as a market place system. Similar to Inked Gaming mats. The art that is up on the site mostly isn't commission by AS. So in theory, the better art for a Top will sell more than a 'poor' art.
    3. People will be able to commission their own art to print onto the sleeves if they don't like what is available on the site.

    • @MTGDegree
      @MTGDegree  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Couple of things. One, that is a very interesting concept, it wasn't really clear to me that it was more of a marketplace. And two, anyone who likes alter videos should definitely check out your TH-cam channel :)

    This might be a stupid question, but... since that particular alter sleeve isn't going to mesh with anything other than a Sensei's Divining Top anyway, why not just copy the art from the visible part of the card to the sleeve art, instead of have that gap there for the card art to show through? It would solve the glare issue. So the product would be like the first Sol Ring shown here, with the art being what the end result of using the Top alter sleeve looks like.

    I like the idea of this a lot. Looks like once they are up and running the store it will be about $5 per sleeve. Hopefully they will have package deals. For Example, my EDH deck has 15 mountains. That adds up. After browsing the site there is a large variance of styles so while some I felt were sub par or not my taste, there were others that looked great.

    What they should do is focus on making sleeves for famous decks so that they can all look on flavor. Thats something I would buy. Like imagine if you could get sleeves for your entire Hollow One deck which would make the entire deck look egyptian based and on theme or sleeves which would make every card in an infected deck appear sick/infected. Thats something people would buy. Entire deck sleeves.

      @@altersleeves thats really cool. Like really awesome. Mind if I ask what your predicted price point will be for entire deck sleeves like that? Also, you might want to think about putting the Artist's name on the bottom left and the year on the right. If everything goes well, they might end up being collectible.

    • @altersleeves
      @altersleeves 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Joe Schmo we're not sure about a deck price yet. Single sleeve price is $8 including global shipping and a guarantee on fit and alignment. Price for a completed deck will be cheaper than 75 time that though. As for signature we do not have a policy on that instead relying on the artist to decide how to display the original or their own artist name. The nice thing is that due to the sleeve design it's easy to move the alter and check an artist info or even remove it if it's declined by a judge for a tournament.

    • @Joe-nh8eq
      @Joe-nh8eq 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alter Sleeves should definitely think of a policy. Push your artists front and center. If you could get price point to $30-40 for a full 75. Maybe do a package with on theme outer protector sleeves and deck box all for around $50-60, I think you would do really well. Good luck!

  • @reinkdesigns

    i would find it hard to believe that the "alter" would make it non tournament legal, if a player had a question about the card it could be easily removed from the sleeve, also unless im mistaken or the rules were changed, the official stance on alters was that the name and mana cost must not be altered in any meaningful way.

  • @Geallach83

    I find that some of the criticisms could have been validated by using the product as intended: as an inner sleeve. Put it in an outer sleeve then evaluate it like you already said in the video. And since art taste is subjective, they can't cater to everyone. What if some people loved the Divining Top art? And changing them to be more realistic or whatever to suit your or your friend's taste would turn other people off?

    I don't like that dissing of the Doomblade alter, the sensei divining top art or art deco as a whole. I know you don't think some of the art to your personal standards, but that art is by no means objectively low quality art. I am glad it's just a marketplace and not a company, but you sounded a little bit too authoritative about what art should and shouldn't be included.
    It's a good review, but every time it was a subjective opinion on art I had to disagree. Art is like that guess. You try to not care about something that is said about some random art but all can't help, but want to say "I disagree".

      We print to order, like RedBubble or Inked. We can print a single design once or a thousand times it makes no difference to our inventory or supply chain. As for quality, it's hard to see that in a video but we use blank sleeves that are indistinguishable from KMC. Same material, size, etc. I guarantee you would not be able to pick them from KMC in a pile. Hope you get a chance to see them in real life sometime, the quality has consistently been reviewed well.
