- James O’Brien and LBC’s political editor Natasha Clark analyse this week's PMQs as Rishi Sunak faces Keir Starmer.
“Another stunning outing for Keir Starmer”
“I thought it was better than last week.”
“He went in hard on Rwanda and quite effectively”
“Really ripping it to pieces.”
“This is why it’s rubbish. This is why it doesn’t work.”
“The small print is terrible.”
“It makes it easy for Keir Starmer when these deals are so full of holes.”
“There’s lots to go on.”
“He didn’t reach for the emergency Corbyn button, I think they’ve realised it doesn’t work.”
“It’s working, isn’t it!”
“It does seem like he’s sharpened up his act.”

Sunak was yelling across the dispatch box that "Labour doesn't have a plan!" to tackle immigration. Let's say that's true for a moment. If the Conservatives plan to reduce immigration is to spend hundreds of millions of pounds to send 100 people to Rwanda, for them to send some back - then I think, genuinely, having no plan at all is a marked improvement.
Sunak is holding on to power now to squeeze every penny he can out of the Country to help toward his Billionaire dream.
Evidence, evidence, evidence please.
@@baguette_connoisseur erm, almost every policy he makes financially benefits him, his wife or his father in law. He then fails to disclose the proper information at the time and apologises afterwards. It's all in the public domain, have a look if you are generlaly interested

@@baguette_connoisseurugh, so if you don't have evidence, you have to believe what they say is it? Dude you can always see when somebody is completely corrupt, stop being so blind and naive.
If the millionaires in the tory party had to fund the 140,000,000 Rwanda project, it would have been binned before it even got of the paper it was written on.
Sunak's real assets are in a "blind trust". They have never been disclosed and are not on the MPs register of interests, and the Cabinet Office refuses to reveal who manages the trust. The public is entitled to know if a public servant has any possible conflict of interest.
Given who Sunak has made Foreign Secretary, he's on thin ice attacking Starmer with Europe.
Claverley looks lost

Starmer is doing great
If you've watched or listened to any of John Major's interviews in the last decade, Sunak is nothing like him. I think the comparison does Major an enormous disservice.
He has class and statesmanship in abundance. Sunak has none of that. He comes from a rich family and he managed to marry into an even richer one.
The Tories are done, please call an election

Sunak forgot at least twice who he was talking to by saying “Mr Speaker” and not “Madam Deputy Speaker”. He’s rattled.

So I’ll assume you mean the things he said he wanted to do years ago during the leadership bid but then since stated that we couldn’t likely do as an actual policy due to the state of the economy going down the pan at a rate of knots. Would you prefer he didn’t change his plans according to how much money he has available to do them when he gets into government?
Regardless I’m still waiting to hear which of his as of yet unpublished policies are “horrendous”.
The irony of course, is that rejoining the EU is probably the best way to stop the boats...

General election now please.
A parliament selected PM should take it to the people to see if he will get their endorsement.
He wasn’t even selected by parliament- he was appointed by the 1922 Committee as the best of a bad bunch.
we did that and remoaners still don,t believe in democracy so whats the point,,
Sick of people making this point. WE DO NOT VOTE FOR A PRIME MINISTER.
@@MiningForPies sick of pedants making this point, for all practical purposes, we do.
@@nelch No we don’t. Parliamentary system means that MPs are directly elected. From those elected MPs, the leader of the party with enough to win a motion of confidence (presently minimum 320) is invited by Charlie to form a government, and appoint ministers. Keir Starmer is a KC. He is no fool. He builds the case over time i.e. allowing the person to condemn themselves.

In re Sunak = Major
I'm not sure I agree in one small particular...Major had more than a modicum of intellectual and insight. He also had a far better understanding of affairs elsewhere in the world.
Sunak serial loser and unelected, bested by Starmer yet again.
PMQ Time is just a joke and an insult to the people in the UK . Get rid of both of these parties and start again.
Yeah, what we really need is an authoritarian government, ruling over every aspect of life, deciding on who lives and who doesn't, ...oh wait... we had that...for many centuries under various Kings and Queens. I suppose we could give the USA system of democracy a try, but only two political parties are allowed to particiapate there, so the only choice would be red or blue.
As a matter of interest , can you explain how this might be done?

The cost to the taxpayer is £290 million for the Rwanda scheme announced so far.

Let me guess, a devout left winger. Have you ever tried having a mind of your own, being open to both sides of the political spectrum? Just a question
@mikeh5656 Have you? You still believe all the Tory lies, so what does that make you?
Does anyone else find PMQs an exceedingly weird feature of our system?
Essentially two people hurling criticisms and insults at each other in the form of questions, those questions being completely ignored to return the favour. No fact checking, no discussion, plenty of "questions" but no answers. Then the partizan press takes away the "zingers" they liked as proof their guy or gal smashed the other. Why? What does anyone gain from this? Did it always used to be so ridiculous?
The media driven forgetfulness of society is what undermines it breesing the politcs we have. Starmer just a few weeks ago said Isreal had the right to cut off water, food and electricty to two million people. Now his PMQ performances are being celebrated - as if it is what matters. As if his fitness for office does not matter - just as long as the Tories are out.
If getting rid of the Tories is a blinkered existential issue - then so too will become what replaces it.
Not a fan of Keir Starmer as he is NOT a socialist and wont do anything to reverse the awful Tory policies, all we will get from his leadership is several years of things getting no worse but also no better, having said that he really has Sunaks number when it comes to pmq's.
Call a general election now and vote for somebody different from the usual blue red or yellow. you say want real political change but continue to vote the same 😂
Jimmy Dimly for next Tory loser er leader😅😅
What was blatantly obvious today was that Starmer's front bench was cringing at his performance. Anyone see a smile from his deputy or any reaction to the mention of Thatcher. He's become a laughing stock.
Starmer has given no indication that he wants the UK to have closer ties with Europe, or to rejoin the EU. I think he's a coward and should have nailed his colours to this mast some time ago.
I hope James is not becoming a Labour party cheerleader considering the state they left the UK after their last session in government. People have very short memories!
The "state" they left the UK in? Explain that.
Well the covid inquiry is there to refresh the memory of everyone
IT WAS THE BANKERS!!! Jesus, it seems it's you who has a short memory or no clue...
