I just looked this place up. It’s called “second nature”. Crazy how the website makes it look like a sweet outdoor adventure club. Then in reality it’s what you just described. Love that you’re sharing these things man. Holding all this in will destroy you in many ways, letting it out, being vulnerable and letting it go will ultimately bring you peace and growth. Much love my dude.

I went to second nature. These places are awful and rife with abuse. Not only do they brainwash kids who are there for a whole spectrum of reasons from being gay to drug abuse to bad grades in school to depression but from there they convince many parents to send their children to therapeutic boarding schools which are ultimately prison camps that aren’t even accredited institutions so that after a kid is abuse there for multiple years they don’t even end up with a high school graduate certificate. So many of these places have been shut down because kids die and all they ultimately do is pray on parents who are worried for their children but who are usually absentee parents with the means to have other people try and solve their problems with their children and they wonder why their kids miss behave and resent them lol

As someone who also got sent to a place in Utah I think it’s very interesting to hear your perspective. I was only 14 when I got sent and it was because I had bad grades in school and ended up self harming once. There was also another kid there because he was gay. These are places are a scam designed to take advantage of parents who are worried about their kids by promising to change their behaviors by forking over tens of thousands of dollars. The group who runs these places is actually a small group of Mormon business men who have set up an entire economic ecosystem based on no therapeutic scientific data amounting to an evil system and rife with abuse. Ultimately they do more harm than good imo. And this is just the wilderness programs not to even get started on the “schools” they send kids after.

@@OliverOliver933 You clearly have no idea what you’re talking about dawg. Idk why you have some weird hang up on how Chet is living his life which is whatever but it’s causing you to talk out of your ass about things you clearly have zero understanding of. There is no way that you knew parents who sent their kids to wilderness programs who were able to check on them every day to make sure they weren’t being abused. These places lied to the parents to trick them into signing over custody of their children under the guise that they would be getting the mental health treatment they desperately needed as troubled teens. Unfortunately this amounted to the staff abusing kids both psychologically and physically (yes BOTH happened to me) not to mentions instances of sexual abuse (luckily I avoided that). If a child complained about being abused in the written correspondence between them and the parent the staff would just say the kid was lying in order to try and get out of the program. Furthermore if you knew anything at all about what you claim you would know that second nature itself was the highest and premier place so you could send your troubled teen so all you did was further illustrate your lack of basic knowledge and understanding about how this stuff worked. I still have most of the letters I wrote to my parents from that time and when you read them it is blatantly clear how brainwashed I was in a very short time period. The only way places like these were able to achieve seemingly quick if only temporary results is because of the system they had set up which is essentially kidnap adolescence and abuse them with no end in sight until you force a behavioral change. The reason why there are thousands of people like Chet who have had the same experience and are still unable to come to terms with it 100% has a lot to do with these experiences all happened during appoint in puberty which is highly impactful on how you form the rest of your life. Not to mention the level of abuse in relation to the amount of hopelessness you feel when you are kidnapped and put in a prison specifically where the guards psychological abuse you as part of the treatment. I guess I should say I’m glad that you had such a normal adolescent you never had to worry about something like this. But to go and discount other people‘s actual real lived experiences about something you can barely comprehend then speculate on makes you a total clown and ultimately you’re probably just butt hurt your last name isn’t Hanks or Hilton lmao

@@OliverOliver933 You don't sound like you have a clue how the Troubled Teen Industry works. How dare you try to minimize or invalidate anyone's experience! I worked at 2 RTC's thinking I was going to be helping improve the lives of adolescents. Most, if not all these places care about is getting $$. Most are also run with very similar dynamics. Some teens will have a positive experience, but it's few and far between. The programs aren't staffed or trained appropriately to be truly therapeutic. It's not a matter of convenience or for attention that they are spreaking out. Patients/ students/ Survivors and even staff have tried speaking out for years. These companies have a lot of money and good lawyers. Some have been successfully sued (like Provo Canyon School) but are still in practice. If you were to do some research outside of what you're hearing from "celebrities" you'd realize this has been an ongoing problem for many, many years. Until Paris spoke out about it, everyone else was largely unheard.

@@OliverOliver933 I'm glad "your people" had a better experience than others. You must not have an understanding of the manipulation that goes on within many of the Troubled Teen programs. Phone access is heavily restricted or monitored. It hasn't been unheard of for even mail to monitored. Parents are often told their child is trying to manipulate them in order to get pulled from the program if they say anything bad about it. I'd like to know what placements "your people" were sent to? Many of these places are also referred to the parents via other sources that get their own incentives or kickbacks. The programs often paint the best picture possible (ex: Provo Canyon School having equine therapy when they didn't is just ONE). After Dr. Phil got negative media attention for referring kids on his show to Provo Canyon School years ago he suddenly stopped referring there. Coincidence?! Of course not!

I wish that when he found "God" that he would have also realized why he found this god. Had he been born into a Muslim family and went to a troubled teen getaway in Afghanistan, then he would have found Allah. What happened to you was abuse, no question. These residential institutions need to be shut down and the perpetrators, schools and parents need to be prosecuted. It is the only way it will change.
Kids are a reflection of their parents, the kids behaviour is all on them.
If parents made more of an effort to prioritise their kids and their wellbeing the world would be a much prettier place.

Chet- Thanks for sharing your story. I worked at 2 different RTC's (in Utah) for a number of years, including Provo Canyon School (after Paris had been there). As much as I tried to make positive & healthier changes to the program while I was there, it was to no avail. Most, if not all, of the Troubled Teen programs are broken beyond repair. It's difficult to know where the problems begin because there are so many layers. Many of the staff are not heard when we/ they try to voice their concerns or we're even met with retaliation or nothing being done. It's frustrating and disheartening to say the least. I was initially excited when I began working at PCS because I thought I could help improve the lives of young people that grew up in dysfunction and with struggles like myself. Since I made the choice to leave over 10 years ago, it is still a topic that comes up in my therapy sessions. It really wore me down and I carry so much guilt over my inability to create a better environment than I was able to. I've been in touch with someone who is working with Paris (I won't give her name in case she wants to remain private). I'm hoping I can be as strong as you and others have been to speak out publicly against these places. The scary part for me is that these companies have loads of money and good lawyers. I spoke up for Bhad Bhabie when others doubted her credibility. I had no idea who you were until I saw a title of another one of your videos- it doesn't make me believe you any more or less. Your experience sounded valid to me from the get-go because I know how these programs generally work. Even if I didn't believe you, your experience would still be valid because it's yours and no one can take that from you. Again, thanks for sharing your story and speaking out against the Troubled Teen Industry. #BreakingCodeSilence. For anyone interested, check out the podcast Trapped In Treatment. It discusses the TTI from a variety of perspectives. I'm glad Paris was able to give a voice to both patients/ students/ SURVIVORS and staff that have gone unheard for years and years. If it wasn't for her "celebrity" I don't think as much progress would have been made. Chet, you're someone else who can help make a positive impact. 🕊🤍

I’ve met people in the field who I think are complete a-holes. Yet, they seem to keep working and even thriving because they are such Alpha’s. They often need to get caught doing something unethical to be stopped. I was fortunate enough to stop one guy who was super toxic and would’ve gone on to harm a lot of people. Anyway, thanks for sharing the story. Hopefully more parents watch this before choosing to send their kids to these programs.

I got sent to second nature Bend Oregon. Our solos were called ninja training. Usually happened half way through the program. We actually got our own food which we had to ration, and we got a book to read. Really grinded through “the four agreements.” I actually managed to get to water phase my last day there. Other than having the rocking chair you could actually eat from the staff food which was an amazing privilege, and you could wake people up which was fun. The craziest part is that there was an air phase which was second nature “god tier.” I think in airphase you could actually order food from town, and you had some other incredible privileges.
