  • In this Vietnamese food vlog where we eat like locals living here in Vietnam, we're in Hoi An visiting three different restaurants and trying three different local street food specialties.
First, we have Cao Lau, a distinctive noodle dish that is intimately tied to Hoi An's history and culture. We'll be tasting it from Hang Hang Com in the Central Market Food Hall, Hoi An.
Second, we're trying White Rose Dumplings (Bánh Bao Bánh Vạc), one of Hoi An's most iconic and beloved dishes. We'll get these from the White Rose Restaurant, Hoi An.
Third, we'll enjoy Chè, a traditional Vietnamese dessert that comes in many varieties and holds a special place in the culinary culture of Hoi An. This will be from Chè Bà Thọ, Hoi An.
And we even squeezed in a fourth dish this time at Madam Khanh - The Banh Mi Queen, a renowned eatery in Hoi An, famous for its exceptional banh mi sandwiches.

The difficult thing for tourists is the language barrier, otherwise you just need to ask the locals and they will show you good and cheap shops.
    Enjoy your time .

I wasn't going to go to Madame Khan's because it sounded too touristy but a local asked me where I was going and I said to get Banh Mi, and she told me to go to Madame Kahn 🙁

If you see more than 2 to 5 foreigners in a restaurant or any food stalls, don’t eat there if you go to a place and see only locals go there.

I went there, Madam Khanh's banh mi was not good, I ate at a very delicious popular bánh mì shop, and a very delicious popular mì quãng shop. Unfortunately I don't remember the address to show you 🙂

Thanks for sharing. I had much better Banh Mi, in my opinion, at a place in Saigon. Banh Mi Huynh Hoa 👍

What's your nationality. I saw a video of you traveling in Vietnam 4 months ago. Why does it take so long?

Hi sandyb0ss, yes it's great here. I'm traveling solo so I don't have anyone to translate for me. Its difficult to communicate some times but that's just part of being a traveler 👍

Hey how’s it going Brown, let you know you’re not missing out on anything that Banh Mì is not all that good. In fact one good recommendation is do not follow google do not follow Anthony Bourdain or any of those things they don’t know Vietnamese food they’re not Vietnamese go where the locals eat ask the Locos they know where good food is. Madame Quan and bánh mì Phượng is not quality Vietnamese food it is generic Vietnamese food made for Western taste.

Hi David, thanks for the advice. Yes I had trouble finding good local places in the Hoi An old town. Whilst still being a beautiful place, the reality is that it is a tourist destination and there are tourists absolutely everywhere there. I should have called this episode, 'eating like a tourist' 😅
