If there's one joy to take from Elidibus' sacrifice, its that his aether can finally return to the aetherial sea and his memories fully returned to him.
A lot of people didn't understand Elidibus' explanation, but here's it simplified: If you're returning to the present, nothing you do will change the past. You have a specific timeline you're returning to. By contrast, G'raha was taking a one-way trip, making the future from there malleable.
A different interp: If you wish to return to the present, you cannot let anything you do have so much effect as to change the present, else you wouldn't be able to return home as your new timeline would be disjointed. But as Elidibus implies: you've already done so. You've made a stable loop because your presence never changed anything crucial. Implying even were you not there, eventually what happened would have ALWAYS happened with very minor differences. And what little differences there were would only 'settle' after your return anyhow.
Since I got some upvotes, I want to clarify. Because this is some complex shit I stated before. XIV doesn't exist within the classical Multiverse model where anything that happens in time travel exists on a seperate timeline (IE: what happened in Shadowbringers), but a very minutely different model (although this may be some tinkering from Althyk). In a normal model, any change, no matter how different, has to exist on its own timeline, in XIV the differences are so minute in the larger scheme they are one and the same timeline. What we did in the past has no real change on the ultimate fate of the star. In short: Hades and Hyth would always do as they did for the most part in Elpis. Every quest NPC would come to the same overall conclusions, just maybe later. Ultimately Hades and Hyth would begin going against Hermes - after Meteion goes haywire (which is still roughly the same). Mayhaps they'd struggle more to catch her in the trap, but they'd still suceed. Likewise, odds are without us, Themis/Elidibus would have handled most of the events in Pandemonium Tiers 1/2. But we existed there and aided him in the reworked timeline. Things are so similar, and lead to the exact same events (mostly because of Hermes mindwiping people, and our presence not really 'explaining' anything that would affect how Themis/Ericht/Laha/etc act in the long term anyhow), no matter what, the 'old' and 'new' timelines are, for all purposes, indistinguishable. When we finally approach going to the past, that's when the 'convergence of time' Hydaelyn always desired to occur starts to hit - because now our actions/presence in the past mattered. We created just enough stability to create a paradox, without actually creating a paradox, like two timelines sharing the same line without conflicting. In a way you could say it's like how the Marvel universe timeline works - extremely minor differences don't matter long as Canon Events (to use the Miles Morales movie term) aren't disturbed. And none of those events get disturbed in the bigger picture as they still happen.
15:13 And it was at this very moment, that a Time Paradox formed and a different timeline branched off. Where once the past was the past, and the present was the present, the past and the future became intertwined. From this point onward, the Warrior of Light from the future was always meant to travel back to the past to help fix the calamity of the final days in the future. And even though certain X^@#$% didn’t know of him in the past, they do now. Because the Warrior of Light was there (even though the current “you” Warrior of Light has actually yet to travel to the past). This is why we do not meddle with time travel.
Ahhh you finally made it to Elpis!!! You did not disappoint with your reaction to seeing Emet, lol. The way you thought you were fine, only to get gut-punched the second you saw his face - truly priceless. Can't wait to see the rest!!
Yeah, I remember shouting loud enough to wake up my roommates when I realized how hard I had been jebaited, and that this wasn't just gonna be a bunch of flashbacks we watch as a ghostly observer, but a whole zone to explore and interact with.
Chief of the bureau of the architect is a funny way to say his title is sassmaster. Definitely one of my favorite moments in Endwalker being able to go here.
Ah, the one I've been waiting for. The moment that location title came up was one of the three times in my life I've been rendered genuinely speechless. The first was Nintendo dropping the announcement for Metroid Dread with no warning years after it got cancelled... I can't tell you what the third was.
I was writing 10 paragraphs about Time Traveler (Look, my headcanon/fanfic has my Azem be both the creator of Alexander and a time traveller, I HAVE to think about his stuff) when I realized that Alexander's quests ended up giving us the answers to the mechanics of Time Travel in this world very well (SPOILERS FOR THE ALEXANDER RAID THOUGH I DOUBT YOU HAVEN'T DONE IT YET) Most of the time, it runs on a Stable Time Loop, everything that happens during a past travel is accounted for on your futures, so if you were to shoot your grandfather, you would not have managed to kill him, he already survived and you father had told you stories of the time some psycho almost killed his dad. The Illuminati knows what you will do because you already did it and it's written on the book That rule can be broken however, and it happens when there is a need for a certain occurrence. Alexander found a suitable future and so, it introduced the cat, the one creature outside of the loop that can actually alter how events unfold inside of the loop, the cat is there because Alexander needs it to interfere with the future so it doesn't drain the star of all its aether Now, there is another spot where something similar happen. Tell me, if the Exarch weren't there, what future would you have? One where you could not travel back to Elpis, which would cause a paradox. Your future needs the Exarch in order to come true, so the Exarch travels back and alters the loop, stabilizing it not only for you, our Ancoring perspective, but for G'raha too, who thanks to the Exarch's existence, is now awake and assisting you as he would have had to in order for our trip to Elpis to happen (Else our journey would have stopped at Zot) So the lesson of the day is: Go unlock and play The Twinning if you haven't
Actual TL;DR: Time Travel here is a stable loop and only creatures and creations of significant ties to time are able to actually alter events and always in order to reach a specific result Holy fuck I love being able to nerd out like this
@@AnneAleph There's a theory out there that the reason G'raha is 'breaking the rules' (casting Floatja, Breakja, etc.) isn't just because of the Crystal Tower, but also because he's the only other person (other than the WoL) who is eight-times merged. WoL gains an obvious power boost from the end of Shadowbringers with the actions of his soulshard; G'raha cheated the system as well by doubling his Source incarnation. It's *also* possible he's: /14/ times merged (because he's got them both in there) and alternately could merge 14 times if the Shards were reunited, because of said doubling, making him more powerful than anyone. If you take that into account, you could say because of that cheat, G'raha is a Temporal Nexus all on his own; he is the natural connection between two timelines. And when 7.0 brings time travel, it would make sense he's the one to do it / guide others through it. I really like including Alexander, by the way. Reducing the number of people able to affect the timeline is always good. Now we just have to prevent those Atomos from screwing around with it...

I LOVE your reactions so much. It’s genuine passion and love for the game there, genuine understanding of the plot and that’s so heartwarming. I’m watching all of them.

Knows it's trouble. Wants nothing to do with it. 36:50 I love how Hythlodaeus plays Hades like an absolute fiddle through this whole thing. 42:10 Remember how Emet said he doesn't consider us truly alive because we only have 1/14th of the soul of the people he considers people? Same thing here. Even sympathetic people like Hyth will look at us and not see a full fledged person with a soul like ours. 45:08 Getting called out again, Terra?
If I may be so bold as to comment without watching the video yet - this was such a turning point. This is where my brain finally accepted "Yeah, I guess Zodiark is JUST a level 83 trial, wow." No longer did I think to myself how weird it was that they ended the game at 83 but kept questing... Holy. Shit. There was SO MUCH MORE.
The biggest thing about that is that all of it has made sense for from a story perspective. I never saw it coming but it wasn't so out of left field that I ever wondered "wait how did this happen??" It was all logical steps, though EXTREMELY unexpected haha.

We were monitoring the weather and crossing our fingers the whole time haha clouds came through like a few minutes later but we were lucky to get Umbral wind for when he arrived
Emet and Hades were not an item, but they along with Azem were best friends - basically the three stooges. It's part of why Emet was so completely torn and broken when you meet him in the First. The dude watched as one friend sacrificed himself to form Zodiark, while the other denied both the Convocation and Hydaelyn's faction and went off on their own, becoming Sundered in the process. You can tell how much Emet really cared about them - the reason why theater is such a big part of Garlean culture is because it was something Hythlodaeus enjoyed. Emet specifically made it a major part of their culture in his honor. And as we've seen with Azem, Emet created a memory crystal for them even after they had abandoned their seat on the Convocation. But headcanon is fair game in FF14, baby!

It was heartwarming seeing Terra break down over Elidibus and Emet, but... Man, Elpis is gonna be a whole-ass thing... Get more tissues. You do not have enough.
The time travel in this game is close to Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. In HP, Harry sees his dad summon a Patronus across the lake to repel the Death Eaters, but later, we find out it was Harry himself from the future. In FFXIV it is similar, but Elidibus hinted that no matter what you do you cannot effect meaningful change. Whether that means they won't believe you or they might even be the first to die, we don't know exactly how things will be different. It's a single timeline, and things will happen regardless.
No, we already know from ShB that it's not a single unchanging timeline: the Source was _wrecked_ for a century by Black Rose, basically all of society collapsed, until Biggs' descendant got G'raha sent back in time with the Crystal Tower to the First Elidibus meant you can't because that would mean you wouldn't come back to the same world you left, the same way G'raha left behind the nearly dead Source in hope that some timeline could be better
@Idran Yet G'raha still exists which they could not explain. Since the Biggs that sends him back is 17 generations in the future, there will likely always be some reason to send him back. Elidibus says it plainly. "Even should you be able to interact, you will be UNABLE to effect meaningful change." Not "you should try not to, butterfly effect reasons, alternate timeline". He said you will be UNABLE to. Which means that the calamity Black Rose was going to bring will probably be brought be by something else... or still by Black Rose but made by someone else.
@@guitalex2005 That's not it. The Short Stories in Tales from the Shadows clarify: G'raha created an alternative timeline. There is a short story about what happens to the world of the 8th Umbral Calamity once G'raha is gone. In short, Midgardsormr awakens from his nap and decides to guide the Ironworks peeps towards rebuilding the world. It's clarified there that both timelines just coexist. So basically *most* of the time, you get stable time loops, but by fulfilling certain conditions you *can* effect change into the world. However, if G'raha ever travelled in time back to the future, he would probably return to the version of the events he came from. At least when he was still the Exarch and not mixed with current timeline!G'raha.
It was all destiny. If it weren't for Hythlodaeus and Emeth, the warrior of light would just be a ghostly figure, trapped in that room, unable to interact with anything. And thus, not finding out anything. Because even under those people, very few are able to perceive souls.
I was so glad to watch this live! Elpis is one of my favorite parts of the game and I'm always excited to see streamers get there. I wanted to ask, fully recognizing that I don't have all the behind-the-scenes knowledge and so you can definitely tell me to back off, but would you consider changing the thumbnail for this vid? I'm concerned it is a big spoiler, with the combo of a recognizable face (with new hair) giving away that we see Emet-Selch again, and the word Elpis showing up early in EW, I'm just afraid it's going to be too easy for someone not in EW yet to glance at their YT home page and get instantly spoiled. Completely up to you, you have better knowledge of the various factors involved with thumbnails, but wanted to put that out there! and I hope I haven't made anything less fun for you with this comment because I have really enjoyed watching your playthrough and hope you continue to enjoy it to the end :)
I love that your reactions are much like my own. Ive just now finished Elpis, and ive never cried harder. The Alphascape3.0 ending killed me, but the end of Elpis was sooooo much worse/better, lol.
It's only uploaded on the VOD channel, and sadly, one of the VODs was lost due to a twitch error from yesteryear, but I'll save you the clicks to the Playlist if you'd like! Omori is one of those stories that will stay with me for a long, long time. th-cam.com/play/PL9Bmrp9UyGP8wWFABT9MPwY5zrFd1Tuq5.html
Bub, would you consider changing your thumbnail? I know the expansion is old, but there are still people going through it and the image + text really just spoils one of the best parts of the expansion for many people 😅
I mean, I really like Emet as a Character, but on the other hand....he is responsible for the death of billions and billions of people. I am really ambiguous about him^^"
Please try to find thumbnail/video title combos that are less spoilery than this. Your video came up on my TH-cam recommendations just as I finished 5.55 and I just had this whole moment spoiled. I recognize that the expansion is two years old at this point and that nobody "owes" anybody anything when it comes to spoilers, but the FFXIV community as a whole is very proactive about letting new players have their experience at their own pace and on their own terms, and it's disappointing to see you violate that spirit for the sake of a clickthrough rate.
My headcanon is either Azem, Emet, and Hythlodaeus were really close true blue friends since childhood/ school days... or all three of them were romantically involved with each other. This is one where I really feel there's no in between😂

Whether that means they won't believe you or they might even be the first to die, we don't know exactly how things will be different. It's a single timeline, and things will happen regardless.
No, we already know from ShB that it's not a single unchanging timeline: the Source was _wrecked_ for a century by Black Rose, basically all of society collapsed, until Biggs' descendant got G'raha sent back in time with the Crystal Tower to the First
Elidibus meant you can't because that would mean you wouldn't come back to the same world you left, the same way G'raha left behind the nearly dead Source in hope that some timeline could be better
At least when he was still the Exarch and not mixed with current timeline!G'raha.
watching that live was worth fucking my sleep schedule over (nodnod)
"How did any of you make it through this game?" well, I had to take Ativan on three occasions
I love watching you … a ray of shining hope
"I thought I'd be more emotional, heh."
Then gets super emotional.
Me too, though. Me too.
I can't wait for Terra's reaction to Elpis and the ups and downs of it all
I'm so happy I managed to get in time for this
also I LOVE your reactions and edits! T_T
It was all destiny.
If it weren't for Hythlodaeus and Emeth, the warrior of light would just be a ghostly figure, trapped in that room, unable to interact with anything. And thus, not finding out anything.
Because even under those people, very few are able to perceive souls.
Terra: I thought I'd be emotional, but I'm not. I'm just happy.
Terra 10 minutes later: 😭😭😭😭
And me here bawling because of Terra seeing them again. 😭
OMG the outro fake out!
Also I was wondering if you were gonna call out Emet-nort and thought maybe you weren't a KH player, but nope, you got it!
That point at 3:22 will live on in my head. Best react to a name drop.
Did you see it's bird feet? I love them!" People who know: 😐😶😶🌫️
So Elpis takes Terra 4 or 5 parts to get through?
I love that your reactions are much like my own. Ive just now finished Elpis, and ive never cried harder. The Alphascape3.0 ending killed me, but the end of Elpis was sooooo much worse/better, lol.
@22:30 .... you played OMORI? huh. will have to search your channel for that playthrough lol
It's only uploaded on the VOD channel, and sadly, one of the VODs was lost due to a twitch error from yesteryear, but I'll save you the clicks to the Playlist if you'd like!
Omori is one of those stories that will stay with me for a long, long time.

@@terabellum yay thanks! I love discovering "new" youtubers (ones I haven't seen yet) playing that game, lol.
Well i had theory, they were, or could be... more than friends, but its hard to say. Subtle hinted, but who knows.
I'm sure they're just very close friends, but in my head canon they definitely kissed one time at a party. :P
i guess u cried because u felt a deep conection between u and Emet when he look at u am i right? :) love all ur reaction btw
Insta sub to anyone who also cries to Elidubus sacrifice ❤
Satisfied?
XIV has inconsistent time travel rules since it uses different types of time travel. Closed loop, parallel timelines, etc.
I am really ambiguous about him^^"
Emet is not with Hythlo because Emet is with meeeeeee. 😂
Well time to do ng+ again lol
Ngl, I'm not a fan of past Emet's hair. He should get Hythlo to give him cute lil braids
This is one where I really feel there's no in between😂
OMG I found another channel of a queer creator.
"Hi"
*waves at you*
This reaction is a bit to gay for my taste
too*
@@terabellum sorry for my bad English, not my first language 😅
I genuinely think that Emet-Selch, Azem, and Hythlodaeus were in a poly-amorous relationship, not even trolling.
Stumbled onto a few of his videos (no I'll not subscribe or turn off adblocks), but is this youtuber always so whiny?
