      Yeah, it makes me really jealous how good theme park enthusiasts have it over in Tokyo. Hopefully someday the top brass at Disney will let the other parks (especially California and Orlando's parks) actually have meaty budgets for these kinds of experiments. Those parks just feel like gift shops nowadays.

      @@WaddleDee105 if they take the quinjet e ticket ride for avengers campus off of indefinite hold and actually build it in the next 10 years I hope it lives up to the hype. Because I heard they cut the budget for it, and that will probably make the entire ride suck. But if they actually make it on the same level as rise of the resistance that would be awesome

      On top of building these amazing rides their maintenance is top notch (unlike America's parks where every ride seems to be falling apart and have at least one broken animatronic these days). I hope you get to go someday, it really blows away any other disney park, and this is coming from a diehard fan of Anaheim's OG castle park.

    Smallest correction: In the transformation scene, the prince isn't always there. Right before he's revealed he is raised through the floor which you can see if you look extremely closely. The dark void behind the transformation isn't effective enough so they mask it with the most visually complex lighting in the whole sequence. I also believe the sparkles on the ground are also in the reflection to disguise it as well.

    • @jph4852

    Great coverage of the ride, haven't seen a video going into that much detail of the ride on TH-cam before.
    I will have to say that I disagree when you say the trackless vehicles' dynamic nature add a lot to the ride. Personally, I think it adds more negative space and emptiness to the ride rather than adding anything else. Unlike Winnie the Poo in Tokyo and Mystic Manor in Hong Kong, this ride doesn't really understand the usage of trackless vehicles. Trackless vehicles are designed to explore and bring life to a specific scene in a room with multiple scenes, not rotate around a single scene. I didn't think the ride was bad by any means, however, I think the Imagineers are relying too much on technology to tell a story rather than using it as a device to help improve the story.

    • @electronics-girl
      @electronics-girl 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I think there's more than one way to use trackless vehicles.
      I see this ride as a close cousin of shows like Carousel of Progress and America Sings. However, instead of the audience rotating around the show scenes, the audience moves through the show scenes, giving it a modern twist. But fundamentally, this is an animatronic show with multiple scenes.

    • @zarajenkins6948
      @zarajenkins6948 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Have you let the Imagineers know, I'm sure they would appreciate your comments, maybe take you on board as you know so much?

    • @LMGVids
      @LMGVids 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@electronics-girl There absolutely is more than one way to use trackless vehicles, the problem is you need to work around their issues in order for them to work. Rise is a pretty good example of this. Trackless vehicles need space and a lot of flat ground in order to operate. So instead of building a large floor with sets around the vehicle like what other trackless rides do, Disney created sets that were smaller, closer to the ride vehicle and sets with props in the middle of the room (AT-AT room). It doesn't work perfectly, but it solves a major issue with trackless vehicles and negative space.
      I can see what you're saying with Carousel of Progress and America Sings, but it doesn't solve the core issue with trackless vehicles, negative space. Every ride vehicle has its positives as well as its negatives, the key is to identify a ride vehicle that brings the most positives to a ride while introducing the least amount of negatives. CoP and AS direct your attention to the center stage and, unless the guest looks around, always face the guest in one direction regardless of whether the stage is turning or not. Beauty and the Beast on the other hand spins around but does so without paying attention to the surrounding area. Look at the "something there" scene for example. They spin guests around and run them around the room which is cool, but it detracts from the storytelling since there are only two points of interest in the scene - Belle and the Beast. In the movie, there is large a focus on body movement, eyes, and gestures (on top of the music) to tell a story, but in the ride, you are either too far away from the scene or too busy spinning that it becomes extremely hard to tell the same story unless you're familiar with the movie. Thats one of the many key difference between a rotating show building and spinning around a room in a trackless vehicle. There are a few more issues this ride creates with trackless vehicles, but negative space and poor show are the two main ones.

    • @LMGVids
      @LMGVids 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@zarajenkins6948 I am 100% sure that the Imagineers know this is an issue lol, the people working on the ride are much smarter than me easily. There are creative and business decisions that happen higher up in the grapevine that most of us probably know nothing about. If anything, I'm just a guy that visits theme parks and that complains too much

      I totally agree, as much as I liked the ride it’s actually a bit boring, especially compared to Pooh’s honey hunt. I think it will be worth the trip once Fantasy Springs arrives at Tokyo Disneysea, and possibly by then the borders will have opened up. I certainly wouldn’t mind if technology also advances to the point of providing real-time translations so I can understand exactly what’s being said during the rides, one of the only downsides of the parks.
    While I realize that Disney has a great many more projects going simultaneously than Oriental Land Company, they really should watch and learn from the business model that they use; investing *more* into the development and quality of the parks is sometimes the best way to get more income coming out of them in the long run. Disney’s current strategy seems to be to invest as little as possible into the parks while shaking down the wallets of park goers of every last cent, and paying cast members and even imagineers as little as possible. Rides build up anticipation, but once experienced underwhelm, and try the patience of previous Disneyphiles to the point of them canceling vacations in protest. Oriental Land Company seems to understand Walt Disney’s vision and the key to his magic in a way that the current Disney corporate leadership has forgotten and, more importantly, they truly appreciate the imagineers, and give them all the funding they need to fully realize their creative vision to its ultimate extent; once again taking our breath away.

    • @electronics-girl
      @electronics-girl 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I almost wish that all of the Disney parks were independently owned, with The Walt Disney Company just providing licensing and Imagineering. It's a model which has worked well in Japan, although I don't know if it would work as well elsewhere, or if there's something unique about the Oriental Land Company.
      I also don't know if there are differences in American and Japanese business culture that make American companies more focused on short-term profits, and Japanese companies more focused on long-term growth.

Restaurants and space for merchandising is great when you think about it: guests don't have to queue or ride rides to be entertained. Disney just gets to milk them for more cash. Tomorrow Land should make a ride for the fat-future-scooters from Wall-E where people can buy food bags.

    those animatronics look insane. really goe to show how much rides can do with animatronics nowadays and how theme parks shouldnt have to overly rely on screen and projectors to bring their effects into the ride

  • @LoveStallion
    @LoveStallion 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I appreciated this video. I think that while the technology and work that went into the ride is impressive, the ride lingers way too long on only a handful of scenes. You just find yourself going in circles around whatever centerpiece a sequence has.
    It's beautifully done, but it's hard not to wish they could have built something more than what amounts to a series of rooms with songs and "dancing" vehicles. I like Mystery Manor because it balances the classic linear elements of a dark ride while letting trackless technology augment the experience into something unexpected.

    FYI, there's a video in which the beast transformation where the prince actually comes from the hole below. There's even another video in which the prince comes partially up. Just wanted you to be aware if you create future videos to state that the prince isn't "hovering" in the area the entire time.

    This is worth a trip to Tokyo Disneyland, yes!! Wow!! When disney lets imaginnears actually do what they do best this is what can be done! Unfortunately for us in the states they’ve taken that element out - too focused on their failing streaming service that they believe is far more lucrative than the parks. They’ll be back at it though- just not sure how long

    I live in Japan and was able to ride this last February (2023). It was incredible. I am by no means a Beauty and the Beast fanatic; I know the story, that's about it. But it was such an amazing ride, the effects and tricks were beyond belief. It honestly felt very magical, OLC did such a good job on the ride.

    I must admit that I'm not a fan of theme parks nor Disney, but I really love your videos because they explain the actual concepts behind the rides and I find the engineering employed to create the rides to be fascinating. I dislike how many traditional European folktales have been consumed by Disney, but as long as they are kept alive, that's all that matters. Thanks for your videos ReviewTyme, hello from Western Australia :)

    I’ve been on this ride 50 times and still want to do it again. One thing I wish Reviewtyme had talked about was how Imagineers first proposed Oriental Land Company to build an Alice in Wonderland dark ride in front of the Tea Cups and to the left of the Queen of Hearts restaurant. For those who don’t know, this is where It’s A Small World is located. OLC’s plan was to RELOCATE Its A Small World to where the current Forest Theater is now. The open space would be used for the new Alice Ride, creating a mini Alice in Wonderland area within Fantasy Land. There’s oficial concept art released by OLC. In the end, OLC decided to order the Beauty and the Beast ride. At the time the ride opened, OLC released a promotional video where the CEO talks about how the company’s latest strategy is to be “The Only One”. This policy means that OLC is now interested in only building original rides to attract foreign tourists. Just see what happened with Tokyo’s Space Mountain. The ride will close to give way to an original concept. There’s Fantasy springs, which looks like will open with THREE original E ticket attractions. The future sure is exciting!

    Some people may say it’s bland or boring and yes the snow scene is a bit long, and it doesn’t give you the hype like Rise of the Resistance. But as a BB fan, ballroom dancing experience with the characters for a full chorus was pretty amazing and it’d be romantic if you sit next to someone you care about. If you’re like a pure-hearted BB enthusiast, come to Tokyo! I’m sure you’ll be moved.
