  • President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), leads the Commencement Exercises of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) ‘Bagong Sinag’ Class of 2024 at Fort General Gregorio Del Pilar in Baguio City on May 18, 2024.
This year’s PMA graduation rites have a total of 278 cadets composed of 224 males and 54 females. These new breed of military officers from the country’s premier military institution are expected to serve under the three (3) branches of the AFP, namely the Philippine Army (PA), Philippine Air Force (PAF) and Philippine Navy (PN).
According to PMA Superintendent Lieutenant General Rowen Tolentino, the ‘Bagong Sinag’ Class of 2024, which stands for ‘Bagong Henerasyong Gagampanan ang Tama: Serbisyo, Integridad at Nasyonalismo ang Aming Gabay,’ symbolizes and promotes a new ray of hope for the Armed Forces as the PMA reaffirms its commitment to continue upholding the welfare and sovereignty of the Filipino nation.
Out of the 278 cadets, Cadet 1st Class Jeneth Elumba, who hails from Surigao del Norte, emerges as the valedictorian of this year’s graduating class. She is set to receive numerous recognitions including the Presidential Saber from President Marcos Jr. and the Philippine Army Saber.
Cadet 1CL Elumba is the 7th female to graduate at the top of a graduating class in the history of the PMA.
