I 100% agree! using toys is a great idea! Converting them and touching up the paint job will bring them to another level.

Depending on the colors and molded details of the toy you intend to use, sometimes just a good dry brushing can really help improve the look of a toy as well. I would say, the fastest method for the best results would probably be a judicious application of a dark wash to shade in recesses, followed by a liberal dry brushing to pick out details and highlights. Dry brushing is pretty quick on it's own, and you can if you are doing several toys at once, you can give the first one's wash time to dry while you work on applying it to the others before you go back for the dry brushing.

I found a table for a doll house that was sixed for Barbie scale dolls, I added some tongue depressors I found at the dollar store on all four sides and made a hunting cabin

Re: color match, you can do the step 2 and then step 1 after, the wash will help unify the color scheme.

I just picked up some of these dinos a few days ago. I got most of them for my 3 year old, but I did throw an extra dimetrodon in the cart for myself, thinking the same as you.
Today I actually came across some He-Man: Masters of the Universe figurines of a similar size to the dinosaurs. Again, I got a variety of the ones available for my kid, but threw in an extra He-Man, planning to use him for a statue, or as an Enlarged character on the game table.

I saw someone else post the He-man stuff too! Our stores get stuff like 6 months after everyone else usually! So I will have to check later.

I recently figured out the store close to me is really bad at stocking things (it’s also the smallest store in my immediate area). I started going to two other Dollar Trees that are each about 5 miles away, and both of those stores have way better selections.
I was even able to pick up a few of the packs of gaming dice people were reporting last year (7-die RPG dice set for $1). They’re great for handing out to new players.

Popping the toy on a base, like in your third example, really helps the eye read it as a miniature instead.

I agree! It makes looking at the battle map really easy to size up.

Personal preference for this would be a combination of 1 and 2. The extra detail looks good, but it looks to clean.

Found a set of orange rpg dice (D4,8,10,12,20 and percentage die)at dollar tree. Pretty surprised. They were decent quality and a comparable set normally goes for 5-8 bucks. As long as u like burnt orange it’s a great buy.

I had the dimetrodon in hand Saturday. I almost bought it. It was the only JP dino they had. I was thinking if they'd had more, I would have bought them and painted them up as gargoyles and statues

Warlords of erehwon do cheap minis £40 for a box of 130 plastic skeleton warriors bit flimsy but great for the price

My dollar store is sporadic! They go for years with nothing then suddenly they have new stuff in stock.
