Haha, I was just thinking the same thing! I think Prince programmed some of that hi hat part and Jellybean played along side it on the original recording of this classic.
actually ..if i remember the story correctly...with the exception of Morris ...none of the other Time members actually played on the track ..Prince programmed the whole drum track on a Linn LM -1 ..I believe Dez Dickerson played on the track and Prince did the rest.........

777 9311 came from a Linn Drum machine Prince used quite often and Morris played drums on a few songs only

@@jeromejamies3641 I know: that's in regards to the studio recording. I know Jellybean Johnson can play that beat live as I've seen footage of it, and I'm sure Prince could, too-and maybe even Morris himself. I've also seen countless other folks here on TH-cam play it, recreating it perfectly.
