Just what I was looking for, and so perfectly presented, too. I can only think of one thing to add to this, and that is the problem of the checkbox item in the ribbon being disabled. This is caused by the document being opened in compatibility mode. Click FILE on the ribbon menu, then click Convert to fix that. I will be sharing this info with my coworkers with a link to this video. Live long and prosper.
Thank you so much! I have struggled with this for a long time and have been frustrated. I really appreciate your clear and accurate demonstration and explanation. I wonder if you might be available to coach me through a few other Word challenges I have. I would be more than happy to hire you to help me.
Thank you for your offer, however have a busy schedule and can't really commit. But you are welcome to leave on comment sections any question you have or a subject you would like to clarify and I may address it in a video.
The check box button and other buttons in the "Controls" section of the "Developer" tab are greyed out and it won't let me use them. How do I enabled the greyed out buttons?
@@DiaperSNiFFER Yes. I was using an older version Word file (.doc). I created a newer version Word file (.docx) and that enabled the buttons. That extra X in the file extension name stands for the "Office Open XML standard". Starting in 2007 with the updated version of Word (and Microsoft Office), the default save format was changed to DOCX.
Thank you. I have some more interesting videos on MS word documents that you will find useful as well. Please let me know if you have a specific topic on MS Word you would want to learn.
Hi thank you so much this is very useful but when I click on the box it doesn't get checked? I am using a mac could that be why? And if so, is there a way then to fill checkboxes on a mac word document?
Great video and really clear, might be good to also create one for office 365 (it's a slightly different on Mac OS) anyways really helpful and thanks for taking the time to upload!!
I have WORD 2016 student version. I can go to Developer, then click on the "CHECK BOX". When I hover over CHECK BOX it says "Check box form field". I see yours says "Check box Content Control". A check box appears but I can't put anything inside it. (x, for example.) What other steps do I need to do or what am I missing here? Thanks in advance.
Good job; finally someone on youtube who knows what he's talking about!

Thanks for the nice clear instructions, can I just help you with the pronunciation of developer: DE VEL O PER. (Not being mean, hope it helps you.)
you sound like techutopia
Dev-lopper.....Ha!
It’s “Dev-elo-per” not “Devlop-er” thanks. Yes, I’m one of those guys.
That's great you point that. We are all here to learn something.
