    I really enjoy that you've decided to show your hunts unfiltered. As I'm watching these videos, it reminds me of all the mistakes I've made hunting, and how frustrating it can be at times. But you're right. Every hunt tells a story, and every hunt teaches a lesson. Also, it takes a lot of guts to let the whole country see you make mistakes, and come back unsuccessful. Good on ya!!!

    • @Fresh_Tracks
      @Fresh_Tracks  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad to hear you like them. Some complain if we don't fill a tag. To me, most of my hunting knowledge comes from a life of mistakes more than the successes. Best of luck this season. Thanks for watching.

      Yeah, I'm sure that a lot of experienced hunters watch your show for entertainment, rather than education. For me, I'm a very new hunter, who's pretty much learning on his own. It's very encouraging for me to see someone with a ton more experience than me still come up short sometimes. I'm still working on my first kill, but the most important thing I've learned so far is to keep showing up despite the failures, which is what you've demonstrated on your show. Best of luck to you as well.

      Randy Newberg, Hunter do you have any suggestions on how to keep a positive attitude and stay alert during an especially difficult or long hunt? I find I get most discouraged when I start to think it's my lack of knowledge or experience that is resulting in the challenges we face.

    • @Fresh_Tracks
      @Fresh_Tracks  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, think about how bad it would be if you were at work that day. I often think about people who are not able to do these hunts as a result of health or death, which helps me put it in perspective and realize that all my days of frustration are merely learning experiences that many others will never get the chance to enjoy.
      Become as knowledgeable as possible about the species you are hunting. Frustration comes from unmet expectations and lack of confidence. Lack of confidence comes from lack of knowledge about the species you are hunting, the species' needs at the time you are hunting, and the lack of mistakes that are valuable learning experiences. As knowledge increases, confidence increases, and frustration decreases. A lot of knowledge can be gained by reading, studying, talking to wildlife experts, etc. Good luck.

    Randy, you are the MAN!!! I love you're show! It is reality in fine form. Remember folks, this is why it is called hunting not killing. And that is why we LOVE IT! After all It is always a great camping trip if nothing else. My wife and i have had way more unsuccessful trips than other wise in the last twenty five years here in NM. And honestly it is really nice to see a guy with you're skills also has unsuccessful hunts, it makes me fee a heck of a lot better!. And then we have the little ole .308, which in this magnum world we live in is not enough gun.....Hmmmm....Having harvested 18 animals ranging from pronghorn to large bull elk with one it sure seems to put an immediate hurt on any critter i have taken with it. given , of course reasonable ranges and proper bullet selection. Which lately has been a 165 gr. Accu Bond on top of a healthy charge of RL. 15. Got my bull this season as a matter of fact with that load at 327 yds. up in the Gila, about 27 yds. further than i would prefer, but got an exit on the first shot and next one stopped just under the off shoulder on the quartering away follow up, out of a little bitty 20 in. barrel. Still can't justify that .300win mag. i keep thinking i need. The wife got hers with her trusty .270 less the exit at 192 yds. using a 140 gr. accu bond, which stopped also just under the off shoulder.
    Keep up the good work, hopefully we will cross paths some day!

    I appreciate to see the reality of this - I haven't yet been hunting, but I often hear people talk about how some hunts turn up nothing. Yet, all the videos seem to show people getting great big animals at the last moment... so its' good to see the other side of this.

    It does happen even in Alaska. Two years ago in 2016 myself and two friends float hunted the Nigu River all the way to the Colville River hunting caribou and wolf. We saw some bulls early in our trip but as we continued further north on the river we ran out of caribou. It was still a great adventure with lifelong hunting and fishing buddies. You can see our half hour video on TH-cam, Brooks Range Alaska Float Trip 2016.

    don't feel bad, I'm an Alaskan and bowhunted moose on the army post, a gravy draw tag and never saw a moose. on they way to the south boundary of the hunting areas had a 55" plus bull walk up to only 8 yards away and I couldn't shoot him he was in closed area. also went back to western Colorado to bowhunt elk late season, never heard a bugle , BUT called a shirus bull MOOSE up to my tent , great show still 👍

    Well done sir. I would have never imagined that there would be so much hunter pressure so far back into the bush. However, that said , I guess all you needed to get to the hunt area is a jon boat. Perhaps fly in hunts would have less pressure. A+ on the extraordinary efforts to produce a quality hunting series.

    Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never--in nothing, great or small, large or petty--never give in, except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force. Just found this video and have to laugh (in the Been There Done That kind of way). More often than not, the struggle is real and only comical long after the fact. The story of "Remember the time we shot that giant elk that we could drive the truck up to" doesn't seem to last as long as "remember the time the outboard broke, the boat sunk, we forgot the tent poles, your rifle jammed, I lost my knife, the binoculars fogged up, and all the food got left in the hotel room?"

    Hunting should be looked at as an adventure in natures heartland. Preparation, skill, self reliance, and marksmanship are what every good hunter takes to the woods with him or her. If you hunt hard and the stars line up for you, you may get your quarry. That is why it is called hunting and not shooting. Continue showing on your channel, it is not just the rewarding part of shooting your quarry when found. It is rather, how hard it is to get the stars to allign for you to get the kill, and your show will succeed. Hunters will be drawn to your show for realism and who knows maybe some of the antis will realize with both pictures and words, your quest is not just a big easy killing spree.

    • @Fresh_Tracks

    • @Fresh_Tracks

      The guys shot the moose, left it on the beach and headed back to their camp to get all the items needed to field process it. When we came be the next day, there was only a skeleton left. In an area where you must identify an animal as having a specific antler width or a specific number of browtines, people are not shooting at just anything they see or hear. I feel very safe in the woods without orange in most places I hunt. I do wear it in some places where not mandated and always wear it when legally mandated. Others may have a different perspective. Randy Newberg, Hunter Randy... It is crazy what they get now. 6 years ago a close friend of mine did a hunt in the NW Territory higher up off the Hay River..Believe it was Moose, Wolf and Wolverine.. The guides were native aboriginals..(Please do not be upset by my lack of politically correct termination) Two paid shooters on the hunt.. The cost was close to $21 K American per shooter plus all of the license and tags,,transfers etc..Accommodations at camp and in the field were terrible.. The guides worried more about shooting meat than trophies and eating which was in the payment depended on what they shot.. Eating Spruce Chicken for two days for that $$ just stinks..I will not even get into the problem they had with drinking which my friend described as scary...I did Alaska enjoyed myself and had no problems and would love to hunt the NW Territory but knowing what I know now.... No Thanks! The lower 48 has plenty for me to hunt..

      It's possible it was left there. But it is much more likely that they shot it, gutted it with the tools they had, then went back to get help cutting the rest of it up. I've harvested, two moose by myself, it's a lot of work. The first time I had help it was amazing. Hunting by myself wouldn't stop me, but man it's much easier to get it home with help.
