Leg strength, core strength, and obviously some arm & functional “push” strength. I’m small, but extremely strong player.
Agitate their moment dribbles in the post, and if they’re going for fades or drives, literally use your hands to cup off the side views before they get into a rhythm to make a move. Literally get your hands as close to their eyes as possible, as often as possible. Most players don’t do this anymore. Personally love placing my hands in the two spots where I KNOW their next dribble is going to be, because it cuts off two comfortable options that might encourage their rhythm.
Make their brain rely on filling in the blanks rather than letting their eyes physically see the floor.
      Also:
      - always cut off the baseline
      - keep reaching to a minimum unless you’re someone with great timing & prediction
      - don’t back down and get physical, but obviously be controlled. If they can just lay it up over you the best you can do is make it super uncomfortable and timing you jump contest as a last resort.

    - Take away normal pocket for example right handed people like ball on left hip
    - Dictate angle; push in one direction with chest to the grey area (short corner)
    - Drop down, shoulders little bit over, knees, active hands with palms up, trace ball with hand
    - If you want to have hand on ball go from low to high (from underneath)
    - If he goes the way you want them to,
keep inside hand (hand by three point) close to body, and keep the other up
    - Want to contest with hand on ball or face
    - If tries to finish, take off angle, tight to take body, and keep the hand that's up high
    - If beat, get flat to get back into a race (run), slide, and hollow out with both hands up (have space between you and offensive player)
    - Play with hands back and with chest over knees. Boxer stance is also good
    - If dribbles with live dribble, do exact same things and principles, The only thing is if they start driving you need to hollow out/suck back out and stay with high hands and brace a hit
    - Stay in between man and basket
    - Stay at a comfortable distance

legit tips for sure. i always think its better, no matter if it ends up forcing them center, to take away their lead step since a first step off the lead step is faster than a first step off the lead step crossing over. my experience is when u take away the lead step, they almost always turn their back and pivot, meaning u can now step away from them and start the whole process over = P

if your opponent beats you and you turn your body which is needed to sprint back, he's just gonna pull back and either take the jumper while you're a mile away or cross it back and beat you completely when u try to recover. defending good players is basically impossible in basketball. that's why nba pros dont put effort into defence

    • @paulchaps2303

Tell Kawhi or Pat Bev that.. nothing is impossible

    • @sammylam1649
      @sammylam1649 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

paulchaps2303 nothing is impossible if you are allowed to foul like pat bev and don't have to play any offence so you can put 100% of your energy into defence. now kahwi is a different story. his good d doesn't come from fouling, it comes from his quick feet and reflexes and defensive feel combined with his huge wingspan. now how many players have this combination? even so, kahwi can only slow down people like harden or durant, not shut them down. it takes more than one person to shut down good players, but then you leave teammates open. the only option for nba teams is to kinda "out offence" the opponent, if u know what u mean. look at what the rockets are doing now
