September Symposium Series (2022): Navigating Role Changes in PD

Those living with Parkinson’s Disease (PD) can have their life changed in major ways. It can be a difficult journey living with Parkinson’s and family members and Carepartners also experience changes to their lives to which adjusting is often difficult. Changes include new and unexpected roles that veer from the natural role of husband or wife, and daughter or son to which the person caring and being cared for are accustomed. Clinical Counsellor Courtney Doherty discusses how to adjust to changing roles while maintaining a healthy relationship, how to maintain one’s identity and self-compassion, tools to improve communication, and strategies for coping with changes that impact one’s, feelings/emotions, and lifestyle.
