  • You don't need to head up MASSIVE munros in order to get the best views, as this modest wee Cairngorm lump shows. So come and take a relaxed evening stroll over a freakishly dry and crispy hill as the drought takes hold, and learn about woodland regeneration along the way :)

    I must have missed the original post but thankfully it popped up this morning. 29.8.18. Such a great video to watch after work, whilst considering a trip up to that very area. I’ve been all over these places but not up this particular hill. Great blether and so good to see the hills in such beautiful light. Thanks Ben and good luck in the job.

    Congratulations on the new job, I think they can regard themselves lucky to have someone as passionate as you.
    As for the drought, we hiked in the vicinity last week and while there had been a bit of rain, the damage as a result of the drought strikes me.
    Fortunately you got some rain now and then, in the Netherlands we're still counting. 7-8 weeks of no rain and a 3-week heatwave incoming.
    Usually we get our rain from you guys, but now...

    Enjoyed your commentary on that Ben, and seriously will anyone ever post a vlog nearly 40 minutes long on Creag Bhalg again? You've done this wee hill justice. 👍🏼
    I never knew about the Swiss brothers and the plans for all the roads. Thankfully that didn't happen.
    Kev and I done Creag Bhalg last winter from Beinn Bhreac and it was probably the most energy sapping soggy plod we've ever experienced in the Cairngorms. We did note all the new saplings coming too, encouraging to see.

      Ha ha! Yeah 40 mins is probably excessive but I've given up trying to cut things down much less than that if I've still got stuff to say ;-) I imagine it would be VERY boggy off that summit path in normal summer weather.

    Congratulations on your new job Ben it sounds perfect for you. That was a great walk you just took us all on thank you. I was up in Scotland during May and it was so nice we only had our waterproofs on on one of the days for rain! Crazy mind with this hot dry spell continuing like it is we are now getting desperate for some rain. I love to see the regeneraion of all the trees etc... I have watched it develop over on the Creag Meagaidh reserve for the last 20yrs and it is great to see how it is changing.
    Thanks Ben ;D Teddy

      Yeah Creag Meagaidh have a bit of a head start. Can you believe CM estate was going to be planted with sitka plantations before it became a nature reserve!?

    We're all missing the hills during lockdown, but I'm really missing the chats on the walks now.

    • @BenvironmentBlog
      @BenvironmentBlog  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, that's the massive loss that walking groups like the Ramblers in particular will be experiencing just now. For so many people, it's more of a social thing that a fitness thing, so that loss will be felt massively.
