I recently found out that one of my all time favorite movies as a kid was filmed there Even as a kid I wanted to go there. Now I know where it is. Hell I’d take a job at that park if they’re hiring and I’m on the East Coast
Looking at the fire map, there's a good chance that many of the Upper Bidwell Park swimming holes were largely unaffected, but we won't know for sure until the area reopens. Sycamore Pool and Five Mile remain unaffected.
Salmon Hole was my favorite back in the 80's - if you went on a weekday, you could sometimes have it to yourself. Bear Hole was usually packed. Think I only went to Brown's Hole once. Bidwell Park is a real treasure.
There’s a secret swimming hole a short hike past the end of the dirt road. You have to cross a shallow part of the creek to the other side where the trail picks back up. It’s worth it. Used to go there all the time and we always had it to ourselves. Very deep pool with a sketchy swing rope.
The park is open daily, but parking lots and gates can have different days/hours from the park as a whole. Currently, the gate at Horseshoe Lake (Lot E) is closed Sunday and Monday, but people can still use the trails to hike into those areas
The fire started near Alligator Hole, so that is likely affected, but it looks like the fire spread away from Big Chico Creek. We won't know the full extent of the damages around the swimming holes until there's containment. Sycamore Pool and Five Mile Recreation Area are unaffected.

At a minimum, a visit should be on your to-do list!
What movie are you talking about? Under wraps?
@@jessieortiz2103 “The Adventures of Robin Hood” w/ Errol Flynn 1938
Loved that movie as a kid and it’s still the best Robin Hood I’ve ever seen

You can still often get Salmon Hole all to yourself

Perhaps officially, but you're not the only one to remember those days fondly :)
