482. Autumn Beauty!! Part II Of An Incredible Color Palette!!

Hi all! The Fluid Art Co is getting ready to release some new pigment colors on October 13, and I got my hands on a few of their new colors! Today's fluid art video will highlight the beauty of Billabong and Wild Atlantic; both of which played beautifully with Golden's Quinacridone Nickel Azo Gold and Iridescent Gold Bright. I also used some Golden Titan Green Pale, which I initially poo-poo'ed but boy was I wrong! The color accentuated the rest perfectly! I'm so taken with this color scheme that this is part 2 of a 3 part series (each better than the last in my opinion) and I might do a fourth! I'm also using a 12x24 canvas! I haven't used this size since I moved out of my kitchen in January! It's a little tricky doing the bloom technique on a canvas that is long and narrow as you don't want it to look too leggy, but I think I pulled it off!

THE RECIPE:
House Paint-base aka puddle for the substrate: PPG Multi-Pro in Satin at Home Depot.
Pouring Medium aka PM Recipe: mix with all colors EXCEPT the cell activator:
Behr 8300 Untinted Deep Base Paint (Home Depot); and Valspar High Gloss Ultra Base C Untinted base (Lowe's). 50/50. Mix well. NO varnish added!
Use the colors of your choice! These tutorials are meant to educate and inspire! Here's how to mix:
Pigments: For a 3 oz cup I add 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of pigment powder to the cup, then add enough gloss varnish (any brand; I use JoSonja gloss varnish) to cover the powder. Mix well until all pigment is thoroughly wet; then add the pouring medium.
Golden, Atelier, and Da Vinci Fluid Acrylics: I put about 2-2 1/2 ounces of the pouring medium into a 3 ounce cup, then squirt in color until I reach my desired shade. Mix well.
For tube paint, I added an ounce of paint (heaping tablespoon) to a 3 ounce cup, then added 2 ounces of pouring medium. If still thick I add a squirt of Golden's High Flow Medium (thins and extends acrylic colors) and stir well. All pigments are 1/8th tsp. pre-disbursed with a small amount of JoSonja Varnish to wet it (stir really well), then add into a 3 oz. cup of Pouring Medium; stir well.
Cell Activator/Color: Australian Floetrol + Amsterdam Deep Gold. 3:1 Floetrol to paint.

Karen karen, this is so exciting! I'm giddy with how awesome the Wild Atlantic piggy is. It is the most beautiful color it's well...just wild. Then the lighter Billabong blue is gorgeous & illuminating. The Qnag & the Iridescent Gold Bright in the middle of the painting looks almost neon it is so glorious and glowing! Everything is in harmony. The whole color combo is addicting. When you showed both pantings side by side they looked like male and female of each other. The one on the left looks male in that in a card deck the Joker has tights on with the diamond pattern which the spiraling cells in yours remind me of the joker card, fantastic! Then the painting on the right, standing in the middle looks like a flared skirt split in two like a Bees wing as the female skirt, all soft and silky in diffused golds and pearls. I think these two paintings are GLORIOUS. They belong together. As you can see both paintings made me so happy I couldn't contain my 😂. Thanks, your paintings made my great day spectacular.💃💃💃

Love this one!! Kinda lost my mind how you keep trying to move paint off one end and the side you are trying to save is the longer end. Your canvas isn't centered. If you want the paint to move in one direction, make the side to move off slightly longer than the side you want to save.

They are both absolutely stunning… I think I like the second one just a little bit more ..I like the green, I like some of the effects you ended up getting..like that top pedal on the left top. Looks like it’s folded over where it has the blue showing just so many things in it that are too gorgeous. Billabong is a term that derives from the language of the Wiradjuri people in south western New South Wales, Australia. It describes a pond or pool of water that is left behind when a river alters course or after floodwaters recede..The Wiradjuri word 'bilabang' translates to 'lake'.
If you have ever heard the Australian poem "Waltzing Matilda', by Banjo Paterson made into a song, it mentions the Billabong.

Karen this is beautiful. Also to let you know what a billabong is it is an oxbow lake. An isolated pond that’s left behind when a river changes course due to bank erosion. It sometimes gathers water and sometimes is dry due to changes in climate.

@WaterfallAcrylics if you know of our (Australian) unofficial national anthem, Waltzing Matilda it mentions a billabong, I believe (although don't quote me) it's an Aboriginal word, like many of our words here

A billabong occurs when a bend /curve in a river is isolated during a flood where the river crosses the shortest distance from one side of the bend( curve) to join the other side leaving a C shape section of still water. It’s a very Australian term.

Beautiful colors and the result is great. You had dry canvas where the paint wouldn't move. As I was watching I kept saying to you, "Put paint on that side, put paint on that side!" 😂 (You finally did and it moved.)

Thanks! Mushroom caps are when the cells are too stretched and they elongate. Then when you spin the ends turn downward and the cells look like mushroom caps! 🍄
