    Very nice review, thank you. I am also an owner of a 156 , and enjoying cheap and relatively trouble free motoring.

    Someone abandoned a silver one in a garage near me back in 2013 and it’s stayed there ever since. I like it and I don’t understand why they would do that

    I made lots of business trips to Italy late 1990’s and early 2000’s I always booked my hire car in advance (by fax) and always requested a 156; I was never disappointed, fantastic car and a great start to any trip was driving away from Malpensa or Linate in a classy rental.

    Alfa’s, you either “ get them” or you don’t ....I’m on my 8th , 3 of them Busso engined, a few TS models spiders , GTV’s and a JTS and 1.9 JTD in the GT , all have something to offer and are relatively rare , very stylish and despite reputation reliable IF they are looked after .
    My theory is they’re not , because the depreciation is so heavy early on that people don’t spend on maintenance what they might on the equivalence German car at that crucial 7 years and older point.
    Bargains abound for those of us that have the know how to sort the niggles and want to drive something more rewarding than a 3 series or an Audi A3.

    Nice and simple review. One question, is there another way of opening the trunk? It seems kinda unpractical to take the key out every time you want to pop it open. I'm looking at buying one, a 77kw diesel (Can't drive anything with more than 80kw till I'm 21, laws here suck) and they're very rare, and expensive for what they are (1600+ eur).

    • @carjourney5157
      @carjourney5157  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as I know that's the only way besides using te boot release inside the car. It is possible that a later version could have an electronic boot release button on the keyfab.

    There is someone who sell a 1998 2.0 ts manual with 230,000 kmh, he drives it on track from time to time, I drove it with him and it feels and sounds like an alfa! But Idk if to buy it from him because of 230,000 kmh, what do you think?

    Any tips or tricks/hacks for a new owner?

    • @carjourney5157
      @carjourney5157  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Depends, if you're looking for one. Try to find one where there isn't too much wheel wobble when you shake the tire. The suspension seems to be a weak point. Like any car that age, rust. It should be protected enough but it's still a 20 year old car. Mine was properly maintained (except for the paint...) So I didn't have many issues, maybe the electrics but that's kind of an Italian thing. Some Alfa's reportedly seem to drink oil like it's fuel, so make sure you keep an eye on that.
      If you're already an owner of a 156 I have 1 recommendation, try to annoy as many BMW's as possible ;).

      Car Journey I’ve just recently acquired one! It’s a late model, 2007! Just wondering if there were any little secrets or anything of note! And of course I will be doing my duty to annoy BMWs! Haha!

      As far as I'm aware it doesn't have that many secret stuff, but then again that's why it's supposedly secret.. It's mostly the details that make it a special car, I was told that you could fit a small bottle on the top vent. So you would have cooled drinks when you turn the air-conditioning on. Another thing which I found was kind of neat was the pen holder in the glove box. And depending on which country you live in, it's also one of very few "normal" cars that doesn't have the license plate in the middle.
      You're making the world a nicer place for driving one 👍. Enjoy

    How many cars did actually have one handling (how did you call it?) on the driver's side ?
    Let alone Rover 620 which didn't have even on the co-drivers side!

      @carjourney5157  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure, It's more common then I thought at the time. The new Beetle I'm testing actually has a storage space for your sunglasses on the driver's side, and a normal handle on the passenger side.

      Another hater who knows nothing. They are fantastically reliable and brilliant to drive. I presently have 2 Alfas (GTV6 and Brera) and daily drive an MPV with a VW 2.0 TDi motor (factory installed). The VW motor is pure garbage. It's noisy, rough and under-powered. Absolute garbage motor. In total I've had 14 Alfas, including a 156 V6.
