James really is a master-of-all. Saves birds, rebuilds electronics, fixes cars, fixes up arcade machines, and he's able to know which bearings are which after he's taken them off of the crankshaft. A phrase he said: "Yeah, easy." is very true indeed.

Having to rebuild something that was not in great shape is more time consuming than building the entire thing with all the parts freshly made and CLEAN. So much cleaning is needed for stuff like this and you have to more carefully inspect everything in case a part looks good but is actually close to breaking

An old trick/tip. For assembly lube, just use Vaseline. It's pure petroleum jelly so it reacts with very little if anything, also old time mechanics would use it because it did the job just fine and it was cheap. Also Vaseline can be left on the shelf prettymuch forever, you can also use it for assembly lube, lubing O rings in various pipe fittings, helping to protect stuff from moisture, etc. I have an antique wind-up Victrola and it even says in the original lubrication diagram to use oil and pure Vaseline (since soft greases like we know of today either didn't exist/wasn't widespread when my Victrola was produced).

I actually think its a good thing the timing belt didnt fit ahaha. Id be scared running a belt made from 2007... had those old "new" ones snap on me before!
But amazing video regardless. Hope all works out and it runs butter smooth the next time around!

We’re covering gasoline engines in trade school currently. Thank you for this wonderful review material. I’d bet our Chrysler 2.4s are more nuggety than that daihatsu 3-banger, especially with how we treat them.

James, as sassy as possible "Don't need it, I have eyes."
Truly a master mechanic, uses serious proper hardware when needed, otherwise just wack it on😂

Fun fact: timing belts have different names depending on what shape the teeth are. You guys needed to order an HTD belt in whatever specs the old one was. From what I know HTD are the standard option so it is a bit odd that you managed to accidentally buy the weird square version.

This is a great way of learning about cars there are some channels that only cover the basic things but don't cover things like the piston rings and then there are the ones going so deep into the detail that if you would genuinely watch them you could get an engineering degree right after this is the perfect balance of stooped and actual stuff you can learn 🗿
