No kiddin, having 2 docs in my family, i know all too well of the fallibility of doctors. I'm old, mostly in good health. If/ When that changes, hubboy, i'll be in severe need of a philosophical absurdist author to float me through thaat existential crisis🤣

I have stopped reading. I can't concentrate anymore due to life stress. However, I watch videos to keep myself inspired.
Thankfully, I have read Brave New World and The Stranger.
Have you read Aldous Huxley's last novel
"Island" written shortly before his death in 1962
The blurb on the back of the book reads:
"It is set in a fiction Pacific Island called Pala
which had been the scene of a unique experiment in civilisation.
Its inhabitants live in a society where
Western science has been brought
together with Eastern philosophy
to create a paradise on Earth.
"A cynic journalist arrives to research potential oil reserves on Pala.

Ultimately having to make a difficult choice."
I suspect that also reflects some of modern philosophical concerns.

I only discovered it as I am doing
a reading project
called the 1962 project
where I read books published
in the year of my birth
which is 1962.
I've read everything from
biographies through history and philosophy
to children's books and comics.
No such list is complete without Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka. I got through about five pages in Tolstoy's The Death of Ilyich but developed a terminal case of boredom. But, I will try again based upon your recommendation. Although Brave New World may be more reflective of today's society, in terms of great literature, 1984 blows it out of the water.
Kafka's works definitely deserve a mention! I will likely make another video with 5 more works soon. I have a video dedicated to Kafka and his works if you wanted to hear my thoughts!
I think that if both Huxley and Orwell had a collaborated their books we would get a representation of the modern world.
For some reason,l can’t get past the beginning of Brave New World. Maybe it was just too boring. But 1984 and Animal Farm were quick reads. Of course Animal Farm was a novella.

What other philosophical fiction? Atlas Shrugged of course. Most particularly because of the criticisms of it that are so common and will likely appear here. These--including criticisms of its writing quality--fit well with the radical nature of Rand's ideas, and the way her work dares to reconsider some of our culture's sacred cows. She was an outsider--what better way to shake things up and freshen your outlook than to take a look at what she said, rather than what her detractors want you to think she said.
You do know that Rand believed in abortion and thought Reagan was an idiot, don't you?
@@jonhinson5701 Philosophy is the study of fundamental ideas. You do know that a position on the abortion issue or an opinion about a politician are applications of fundamental ideas rather than fundamentals themselves, don't you? Am I to take the implication from your comment that only philosophical ideas that arrive at the correct outcomes in their application are to be studied? The deck must be stacked, in other words.
Rand was never an outsider? Criticism isn't getting canceled.
