  • THE BIGGEST MISTAKE CAMEROONIANS MADE IN 1972.
On May 20th, 1972 a giant fraud was perpetrated against the wishes and aspirations of the southern Cameroons. The first president Ahidjo, using the more populated French Cameroon citizens. Forced a referendum on the Southern Cameroons and abolished the two state federation.
The new constitution would make the country a unitary state, as opposed to the previous federal system, as well as giving more powers to President Ahmadou Ahidjo.
This was under the direct instructions of France, this move paved the unhindered access to the oil, gas, minerals, timber, cocoa, coffee, banana, rubber, palms etc of the southern Cameroons. The illegal referendum was mean to cement the unauthorized foumban conference in which our Cameroonians were dubbed into believing there would be a federation.
During this so called referendum, the response options on the ballot papers was "YES" and "OUI" meaning No.
So whatever response Cameroonians chose was simply the same, Ahidjo then declared a 99.9% victory in favour of the unitary state.
While the referendum itself was unconstitutional, that was beside the point. The fact that the ‘No/Non’ ballot papers were not seen at many polling stations, made it a democratic farce rather than a referendum.
That was the day the Cameroonains fate was sealed. That was the day the seed of the present day war was sown. Since then, Southern Cameroonians have been protesting but suppression with maximum force has always been the response.
November 4, 1982 Cameroon's first president, Ahmadou Ahidjo stepped down from power and two days later, Paul Biya who was the then Prime Minister took over as the leader of Cameroon. After assuming the presidency, Paul Biya pushed through a revised Constitution in 1984. This document changed the country's name to the Republic of Cameroon, redrew the lines of the provinces, and redefined the line of succession to the presidency. The current Constitution was adopted in 1996 in response to pressure from Anglophone Cameroonian groups advocating a return to the federal system. He has been in power to date and as of 2024, he is the longest serving non-royal head of state, having been in power since June 30, 1975.
In summary, over the years the people of southern Cameroon today preferably Ambazonia have always been forced at gunpoint to celebrate the day they were captured as slaves.
But this generation has chosen not to blink until the entire colonial apparatus is rooted out of Ambazonia permanently. We want our independence, The Republic of Ambazonia. Until the flag is permanently hoisted in BUEA, there will be no retreat, no surrender.
If not of the fact that Cameroonians have chosen civil disobedience as a way of protest which saves the lives of Cameroonian people, every 20th May would have been a day of mourning and protest by Ambazonians all over the world and in the homeland.
Cameroonians will continue to hold high the flames of freedom and liberty until the very end.
Cameroon, just like Uganda had a federal system of governance. Milton Obote who was the Prime Minister then, suspended the constitution and declared himself President in March 1966, allocating to himself almost unlimited power under state of emergency rulings. Several members of his cabinet, who were leaders of rival factions in the party, were arrested and detained without charge. Obote responded with an armed attack upon Mutesa's palace, which ended with Mutesa fleeing to exile. In 1967, Obote's power was cemented when the parliament passed a new constitution that abolished the federal structure of the independence constitution and created an executive presidency. The new constitution would make the country a unitary state, as opposed to the previous federal system, as well as giving more powers to President Milton Obote.
That was the day the Ugandans fate was sealed. That was the day the seed of the present day militiary dictatorships under a unitary system was born. Since then, there have been military coups one to the other with the present dictator president Yower Museveni whos been in power since 1986 just like Paul Biya of Cameroon. With help of the western world these dictators can only abuse power under a unitary system because there are no check and balances. And also, a unitary system gives them unlimited powers to control all government institutions without any authorisation and suppression with maximum force has always been the response. Leave Cameroon alone. Biya kept us out of War. That is what matters to us francophone in Cameroon.
We rather be poor than die. Its a choice some people in the english part did not make and many have now fled their homes to survive.
Say what you want but do not speak for all Cameroon

Your comment makes no sense. You don't keep people out of war by poor governance. Rather, poor governance breeds war.

We can thank the Bamenda graffis for selling and betraying the anglophones to French cameroun. Don't blame Ahidjo. He didn't tell the Bamenda people to sell anglophones like slaves.

What an ignorant comment. It was because of the cancellation of the Federation that Foncha and others revolted and even went to the UN. Have you read the resignation letter of Foncha. The cancellation of the Federation was largely carried out by Ahidjo and France when oil was discovered in Limbe. Jua who safeguarded the Federation as prime minister was sacked by Ahidjo.
Just know that it is thanks to the graffi people that:
      1. Southern Cameroons didn't join Nigeria esp due to Foncha
      2. That anglophones were not totally assimilated due to the fight of sdf which came up as a party to reinstate federalism
      3. The gce board still survives after Cameroon wanted to annex the anglophone system of education
The list is very long but your hatred will only destroy you
